Id say then chickens are good IF you're growing wheat and are going to expand into cake eventually. Im personally going for grass so i can do sheep for wool and make silage as well as have the potential to quickly expand to cows or horses.
Chickens are great for beginners with a low start up cost: $79k Coop, $20k chickens, $21k food = $120k costs. Income from eggs per year = $60k. This means 2 years to break even, with $60k profit each year after that. This is a ready low profit margin when you break it down to $5k per month (depending on egg prices). Pigs are a lot better IMO after 3 years but you have much higher startup costs.
