Back in the day, I wasn't really a Libertines fan, but ended up at a secret gig Pete did at the Boogalloo in Highgate. Just him with his guitar and his mate with one snare drum, and about 40 people in the audience. They played for over 3hrs, sat on bar stools, and were absolutely brilliant. I realised that night is misjudged him - I'd read the headlines and thought he was just a hyped-up junkie. I was wrong. Very very talented lad - and such effortless charisma. He won my respect. Good luck to him

I was in rehab with him in 2005 in priory Southgate we had many a long chat and singing sessions in the smoking room but he really is a great guy with a traumatic past hence the drug problem . Anyone who was to meet him would totally agree what a lovely character he is

very good journalist, most interviewers wouldve interupted him when he paused to think but she let him think an create an awkard silence ( in a good way).
We should really look at Sweden, low crime rate and they don't send criminals to prison for petty crime, they go to correction facilities and not many of them re-offend from the statistics, it's society in the UK that wants to see everyone locked up and then prisons get overcrowded so the solution to the problem is to build more prisons, but unless society's thinking changes there will be no change and so we will go on to continue to fail and waste more money, 36k a year it costs to accommodate a prisoner in the UK, our average wage for workers is less than half of that
Dealers actually break into some prisons. Of course the guards know what's going on. You want a jail full of sober louts or drugged out docile junkies? They even keep them topped up on diet of prescribed methadone and Benzo's.
Look up breakfast at bronzefield, a short video on here, I read the book, I felt so downhearted after it, like they don't want offenders to be rehabilitated to prevent reoffending, the book Breakfast at Bronzefield was written by a woman who served time there.
I cannot watch Pete without ending up crying. Such a deep empathy I feel to this guy. I sincerely wish him luck and hope the universe will give him an intrinsic harmony....:(
That was the most painful silence I think I've ever witnessed and that face he pulled as soon as she asked him about everyone he lost, it was a grimace to stop him breaking down. To everyone saying he's smashed here I'd say no because if he was that question wouldn't have affected him, it's only when your clean you get those emotions back. Not saying he's clean all the time, reminds me of a fumbling Ozzie Osbourne in his talk, I've known loads of long term addicts but not one who ended up like ozzy, they're all pretty together for the most part.

Being an addict weather to drugs or alcohol doesn't make you a bad person diana m you must lead a very sheltered life if u don't know anyone who's addicted to something and their not bad ppl
I’m 10 years free. Stopped at 42 and it was hard… putting down is easy, it’s living life sober that is in the beginning so damn hard. I’m free of the obsession now and life is so fucking beautiful. All I can say is >> it’s NEVER too late. Never! As the minutes turn into days that turns to years; so called ‘friends’ that abandoned you will be but shades from another lifetime. You will be divorced from the entire past lifetime. Water seeks its own level my friend. I wish you the best!
What a talent. This is incredibly sad to watch. As someone who was once living in the chaos of alcohol and addiction, I can see that he’s totally gripped by it during this interview. So many tell tale signs, he’s even possibly in ‘black out’ and won’t remember this being filmed. I hope Pete finds some clarity and gets the help and support that he clearly needs before it’s too late...obviously he’s got to want it first. 😔
Peter Doherty is a national treasure, a true gentle soul. Sincerely wish him all the best and if he wants to take gear then so be it, I would hate for him to be using because he has to though not just needs to
For the first time in all of the interviews I saw with him, this was the first time that I felt that there was a bit of hopelessness on the drugs subject. He may not do so many drugs as he once did, but I'm almost sure that heroin has once again take hold of him. It felt almost as he knows deep inside that this ''thing'' grabbed him, and it won't ever let him go.
Erik Lucidor Yes that's important. I've been clean just over 9 years. My partner Alex ( who died in August aged 42 ) was on 120ml of Meth and he use to say to me it was like a diabetic had insulin he needed Meth to function. If it works keep on doing you. Be lucky.

@@eriklucidor422 I'm so glad to hear someone else is thriving on methadone! I've been clean 5 years - the first year on Subutex and the past 4 years on 100 mg of methadone daily. Methadone has ABSOLUTELY, without a doubt, saved my life. I'm 35 and finally have a proper career, my own home, a new car and better than all that... the respect, love and close relationship of my family. Anyone who sees methadone as "trading one addiction for another," is seeing it in the wrong light. Like the insulin analogy... do people scoff at diabetics and look down on them, referring to them as "insulin addicts?" Years of drug use changes the way your brain functions. That's plain, proven science. Your brain stops producing certain chemicals because it's come to rely on your use of drugs (in my case, opiates) to produce them. If taking methadone is what my brain needs to properly function and allows me to be a productive and responsible member of society, a present and attentive parent, a loving and caring daughter and a reliable and hard working employee, why must there be such stigma associated with it? I love hearing methadone success stories. Congratulations on your sobriety!!

The Truth is prison , in the U.K. , helps drugs and crime, change a failed system .
We should really look at Sweden, low crime rate and they don't send criminals to prison for petty crime, they go to correction facilities and not many of them re-offend from the statistics, it's society in the UK that wants to see everyone locked up and then prisons get overcrowded so the solution to the problem is to build more prisons, but unless society's thinking changes there will be no change and so we will go on to continue to fail and waste more money, 36k a year it costs to accommodate a prisoner in the UK, our average wage for workers is less than half of that
Very true , i'm going to send to my MP, is about time youtube was put to work ,
still liked him singing a Marc Bolan song , Elton on the Joanna
Dealers actually break into some prisons. Of course the guards know what's going on. You want a jail full of sober louts or drugged out docile junkies?
They even keep them topped up on diet of prescribed methadone and Benzo's.
Look up breakfast at bronzefield, a short video on here, I read the book, I felt so downhearted after it, like they don't want offenders to be rehabilitated to prevent reoffending, the book Breakfast at Bronzefield was written by a woman who served time there.
@@Gunzee It's not the answer though is it. The goal is not sober louts, it's sober rehabilitated ex criminals who can contribute to society.
I cannot watch Pete without ending up crying. Such a deep empathy I feel to this guy. I sincerely wish him luck and hope the universe will give him an intrinsic harmony....:(
Me too 🥲
That was the most painful silence I think I've ever witnessed and that face he pulled as soon as she asked him about everyone he lost, it was a grimace to stop him breaking down.
100%. Long term addicts will know that you can't feel anything - when you're so far gone you don't care about anything or anyone.

Absolutely Criminally underrated as an artist and a poet. He’s our generations Dylan But it’s probably gonna take for him to pass on until he gets acknowledged as being as important to music and British culture as he is

So sad to see him like that. Broken in tears. I wish he could get to the place he needs to be healthy & happy. I know it's hard to get into new healthy habits when you have unhealthy psychological crutches. Whether it's drugs or just other unhealthy ways of living to just get us through the day. If only it was easier to cure psychological damage.
Josy Posy this is the first real thing I’ve seen from Pete, besides his music...

Self inflicted
He has major mental issues and no doubt should've been medicated before he started on the drugs. I remember seeing an interview of him and he was crying and said he had un unhappy home life and his father treated him terribly. I don't think he ever got the love a person needs to have a healthy life.
Never been a fan of his music
But addiction is a horrible thing it's obvious that he is still struggling

@Donnie Darko Haha, read what you said wrong, he didn't come down that amount in a week he's knocking down to 3.5ml in a week lol, doing that in a week is a rapid detox like stapleford or detox 5, they get you clean in 5 days but you'll seriously wish they hadn't, talk about walking dead, id love to see the figures of how many people are clean after a year and its 5 grand as well.
Never judge a person until you've walked a mile in their shoes.
If they've got veruccas, I think I'll just carry on judging them.

AMF He still has hope but doing the band thing might not be a good choice for him.
Erik Lucidor Yes that's important. I've been clean just over 9 years. My partner Alex ( who died in August aged 42 ) was on 120ml of Meth and he use to say to me it was like a diabetic had insulin he needed Meth to function. If it works keep on doing you. Be lucky.
Erik Lucidor well done to you mate too. It's hard rebuilding a life after years of madness but I've found peace in the spiritual sense amid the chaos of things. I have my dogs that keep me on a level and I live somewhere peaceful. Take it easy ❤️💛💚🇬🇧
@@eriklucidor422 This is nice to read stories that aren't tragic, thanks.
