Very interesting set shown here. I had to stop at the 5.29 mark, as I think I knew a descendant of the Aldred family. Her name was Debbie b1956. She worked in a photographic studio with her fiance in High St Northcote. in the mid 70s.
I never knew there was a David Jones store in George St on the corner of Barrack St. I had to look it up. Seems it was opposite the old GPO which is now a hotel? That looks like the steps at the GPO in the photo at 5:25.
What song is that @9:50 in the video? Its memorizing and listening to it while the images are passing by draws you right in. The whale fin skeleton, who would have thought. Thanks again, great upload. 🐳👍
Photography wasn't instant back then. The subjects would have to be posed for quite a while. Imagine trying to hold a smile with teeth showing all that time.
I think most of the soldiers you show as early 1900’s would have been WWI 1915 to 1918. I had a photo of my grandfather dressed in the same uniform. However the daily life street scene Sydney labelled as 1890 has to be incorrect as the first automobiles came to Sydney in 1900 and in this photo there are cars parked at the kerb behind the horse drawn wagons. 11:45.

19th century Australian photographers must have admonished their subjects "Smile if you have to but on no account let them see your teeth!"
