This is pretty amazing, and this coming from a 75 year old woman. I cried at the end also. I think I'm liking Nightwish. No age limit on who is allowed to love good music. Thank goodness. Thank you Viking. ❤
If you are new to Nightwish, their sound changes from song to song. They have so many great songs. I personally think anything from 2013 to the present is their best stuff, as that is with their current lead singer Floor Jansen. She also has a solo album and many cover songs on her own TH-cam channel. And most of those are not hard rock or metal, but rather pop, classical or even operatic. She can sing anything!
I am a 72 yr Female and love NW found them when I was 68 and not a day goes by I don’t listen to them in some way. It’s hard to explain to your family and friends your love for a band at that age. This is eternal music. Tuomas writes for now and for the future. Indeed a proud member of all those well known composers from the past. And yes, Troy got me crying again.
Yes, it's about Marko... and Tarja... and all the other people Tuomas has met in his life. You can of course picture yourself in the song and think about all the people you know or had known during your lifetime. These are all strange islands ;)
@@VikingReacts Well, it does, and yet it doesn't. I mean, to think you understand the lyrics immediately and to presume they are really THAT straightforward is really underestimating the songwriting. Sorry for saying that, but some fans have been trying to find the glimpses of "this is about Tarja! (nad now ofcourse Marco)" in really every other song, and Im kinda fed up with that. I mean, everyone his own perception, right. But... Do ya'll really have to? When you know the repertoar of Nightwish and wide range of their music and level of lyricism? Just something to think about.
@@jakubfranek9995 To me. It's not about specific people, but navigating through life. The islands are the people and experiences you encountered on the way.
@@jakubfranek9995 I don't presume to know the meaning of the lyrics. Listen carefully to what I say in the video. It is a question... not a statement. I think it is very obvious that I am wondering if this is the meaning as I don't fully grasp the lyrics in one viewing. I'd say let go of your frustration and watch with a different mindset. We watch a video once, unprepared (spoilers) and try to give it meaning within the reaction. You may have heard dozens of people say things you get frustrated over... I haven't. And also... your opinion is just that... an opinion.
@FromG2eminor I saw a podcast with Floor and Elizabeth (the charismatic voice) a couple of days ago and I think Floor dropped a hint. From what I get give them two years and they will be at it again.
This song is about people we meet along the way in life, each person represent a island, or a happening in your life, and the one steering the ship, Tuomas, or maybe you.. it could be your story right, but Tuomas proberly did write it as him steering the ship. Thats just one take on it, cause Tuomas also said the song could have a triple meaning. guees it could also be taken as the journey of the band, or a 3th option. feel some imaginarium vibes here, also some melody parts reminds a bit if the NW song Sahara.. This is the MASTERPIECE of the album, and i love taking this voyage on this ship its a journey!!, sailing this ship to diffrent island, and in the end with the pipe section we go to final port, where we do not need to visit more islands.. love it!!
If Amadeus Mozart had an electric guitar, an electric bass guitar, a synthesizer, a drumkit, Troy with his flutes and Uilleann pipes and Floor Jansen, he would have tried to write a musical piece like this. But honestly, I think only Tuomas Holopainen is the genius to write this. He's the poet and he uses words, instruments, music, voices to bring us his message, his story. I love this man.
OMG! I love your reaction to this song. This must have been the song she was talking about in an interview about the fastest singing and so many words. And the highs and lows required of her voice on this album in general. I listened to Lanternlight this morning at 7 and sat there in the dark tears just streaming down my face. The beauty was breathtaking.
I think Tuomas's and Nightwish music is so diverse, it dousn't let them box in the Metal music only IMO, I love it... and it is so much more than most of the mainstream music you hear imho.....thanks Viking loved your reaction and i am not even a pure Metal fan...
No it's not just you 😋 This song is perfection. The most important thing for me is that I can feel the song. And this I surely can! "Sail and seek" makes me want to raise my arms and embrace the world with the feeling of bursting with happiness. This is music at its best, for me atleast 😍
this track runs on repeat, even that the album is already there and i heard it 3 times now, this track is outstanding good and jumps to the top of my favorites on the first listen and after "Lanternlight" i needed tissues

So glad you discussed the strings… I feel this album has such great string lines as well as Tuomas with old school classical piano work as well. This song is in a neck and neck with Spider Silk right now. 😂
Epic beard Sir! 🤘🤘My favorite so far from the new record. I think the Butterfly's and Islands all represent people and places we have encountered on our journey. Definitely encompassing the journey of Tuomas and Nightwish with all their varied personalities. Tarja, Annette, Marko, and the rest. A time to reflect and contemplate everything that has been. Like the ending credit music for a movie. I think some fans are looking for more metal and more of the amazingly beautiful and powerful voice of the Queen. This record is done in a very artistic way and not centered on the individuals. It is the final part to the celebration of humanity and our place in the cosmos. A very short short in the overall scheme.
I feel this is a perfect metaphor both lyrically and musically of life itself. The frenetic nature of it , the ups and downs like the ocean waves, the joys the pains , the loves gained and lost, the searching for happiness and your place in the world, the gain and loss of friends as we age and then the peaceful release into our own mortality and death. I feel the line about grapes of soured wine is more about aging and growing old and losing your friends due to death more than bad relationships but who knows. Anyway, love the entire album. 🤘. This is an absolute masterpiece. Wow! At one point this sounded like something you'd hear in one of the original POTC movie soundtracks, but went full on Halloween with that sinister laugh of hers. I could definitely hear the slight similarities at one point to the The Mask of Zorro score, Viking. Truly impressive, regardless of the meaning. 😊 There's really only one way to listen to this... full blast & preferably with surround sound.

It's an "in" thing to whine about the mix. People just don't get it. Floor sings a lot of choruses a duet with her self and people whine that the lead vocal is too low. This is essential Nightwish, not just in the sense of "you gotta hear this" but also it embodies the essence of the band, with echoes of their past forms but also fully in the present. I believe Tuomas said something like it has at least three meanings; and I reckon even if it's about all the people he's interacted with, Marko and Tarja will have been in his thoughts as he wrote it.
