I did my service on the Chris Cheney and the Zapata Lexington, off the Norh West coast, an area called Leveyatan. Some times 2 weeks on 2 off. There was an unforgettable shift of 3 weeks on but 3 off. 12 hour shifts. But, the grub was great. And the women disguised as fellas; that's another hellarious story.
I can't believe how many there are on the drill floor. I was on the same rig in 1981, and there were only 3 roughnecks doing that job. Not 5 as I see in the film.
Did you ever hear of the Barryroe Streaker. Jamesey Andy Sullivan. Done a streak sitting on the bonnet of a mini while the people were coming out of Mass.
@@pmacc3557 trying to be funny I'd say. I know this fella and he's always up for a good laugh. I got the impression you were from Barryroe and thought you might know him too.
A friend worked on a big rig in the North Sea and said he often just walked about with a big spanner and everybody just assumed he was on his way to do something. A lot of lads got ahead by working the rigs and saving but many spent it as fast as they could.
Which meant people with a decent work ethic had to pick up the slack, like myself. But that decent work ethic eventually put me in a position were I earned £150,000 a year. I came across people who gave the appearance of doing something. But, they always got found out.

@@ivanshipy1966 My Uncle was the barman on the B&I to Liverpool from Dublin. He met many famous people including Alex Higgins who was on the piss for days. I remember one time a family were on the boat - musicians and the children were dancers and they put a show on. Everyone sitting around drinking and smoking and clapping along. Different world to now. My Uncle would work the Friday night - go to either Anfield or Goodison depending on who was playing - then back working on Saturday night on the way back to Dublin.
the 1970s force is strong in this video
