I think you could do a Q&A made up of nothing but responding to the question - Steve what is the best ( accurate and interesting) biography of person X ? We know you've read 'em all !
Not that I need another reading event for this month, but I am sure I have some biographies and memoirs in my TBR for this month. I'll have to bump some of them up in the queue. Great video.
I think Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run" is both accurate and interesting. Long, too. Still, it gives us LOTS of behind-the-scenes views that we who have grown up with his music can enjoy. My .02.
A while ago you mentioned Viviane Forrester's "Virginia Woolf: A Portrait" so I picked one up.I found it really insightful and moving. Just for grins, can you share where on that genius graph you'd put it?
I've been writing an article about a Harvard professor of accounting, hopefully it turns out accurate and interesting and doesn't slide into accurate and boring.
I admit that I often avoid big massive biographies because I am afraid they are going to be boring. Tons of source material is a good thing, but the author has to sift the material and present it in an interesting manner. And that last thing is sadly not a given.
I thought the same thing until I read another book Steve recommended : “Emerson: mind of fire”… amazing book -changed my mind on biographies completely
You've probably mentioned it on the channel or might have even written reviews for them, but which category would you file Nicholas Boyle's biography volumes of Goethe? Are we ever gonna get the third volume?!
I've only read 3 biographies in my lifetime: Marty Feldman, Jim Henson, and Theodore Geissel. Other than that they are normally boring, a shame really.
Well, if you’ve only read three, you can’t really comment on what they otherwise normally are, right? Although there are plenty of boring biographies out there, I assure you there are more than three good ones!
Oh I really love the visual aid. And so true alas.

Stephen Kotkin's biography on Stalin is the single greatest biography I have read in my entire life.
I wouldn't give it my own top spot, but boy oh boy, is it excellent!
With a graph?! Thank you for diving head first into Peopril!

I really dont care for Agatha Christies mysteries, but her autobiography was riveting, and I believe , she wrote it herself.

Accurate and Interesting, definitely!
One of your best thumbnails ever.

Hah! What should my first hour-long essay be? The Sociopathy of Fitness Influencers?

Your comments about official bios being compromised made me think of Arthur Schlesinger’s stuff on the JFK admin.

Oh, and PLEASE share the biography of the uncle with a penchant for pool boys. THIS is the bio that we need for Peopril, Steve!
Is that a good one? Is it an intellectual biography
