- The Südwesterlied (or "hard as camel thorn wood") is originally a song written by Heinz Anton Klein-Werner for the German Scouts of South West Africa. Due to its great popularity, it became a group-specific anthem of the German Namibians.

This Afrikaans version was sung by Gé Korsten (1927 - 1999), who was a South African opera tenor and actor who had a great influence on Afrikaans culture. Born in Rotterdam, as the youngest of eight children, Korsten and his family emigrated to South Africa when he was nine years old. I used to live just down the road from him in Honeydew, SA, in the 1970's.
He also sang the German version of Südwesterlied
Schiedam* not Rotterdam ;)
what were the popular companies in 70s SA
Honeydew?!?!? I live so close to honeydew! What a small world
German version is cool, but is obvious to see that Gé Korsten sang the Afrikaans version with passion and pride.
Panzerlied!
Ich liebe dieses Lied. Ich war vor 2 Wochen noch in Namibia. Es war sehr schön
Lang leef die boer ❤ ek is ook lief vir die suidwes
Colonial disco 💽 🕺🏻
God save the Boer.
If only there was a spotify version of this song
I can make one
As German, reading Afrikaans or Dutch. It just Sounds like a drunk german speeking very slow with some word twists. Still cool song
That's because German is very complex while Dutch and Afrikaans are simpler, Afrikaans even more then Dutch
Yep
@@dutchskyrimgamer.youtube2748 if you said so, I'm gonna try it...
Im an american that speaks german with afrikaans ancestory, it all kinda blends together after a while lol
So good love it
As n suid afrikaaner wie se moedertaal afrikaans is stem ek saam
Wenn ich den Afrikaans-Text mit dem deutschen Text vergleiche, verstehe ich Afrikaans ein wenig besser. Grüße aus der deutsch-niederländischen Grenzregion.
Thats because its more simple. So its not hard fo understand
Mooi bly altyd mooi.......
Danke
Nice song
Wir kommen wieder, keine Angst. Gruß aus Deutschland.
I wish I could learn Afrikaans
It's quite easy actually, it's just Dutch mixed with English
@@DerMarschliedKamerad Yeah that's true at least in some cases since I actually can understand some written Afrikaans
You can only really learn it if you come to South Africa or Namibia but I'm sure there are some places where you can learn it.
@@WoistwahrheitI learnt it online and with Talking to my fellow Vrystaat Boer friend.
@@DerMarschliedKameradDefinitely not me spending so many years in school but then still not being able to speak it 😭🙏
ek is lief vir my land en sy taal

Afrikaans disco panzerlied isnt real, it cant hurt you they said 💀
yo, what is this cool version of german?
This is Afrikaans not German. It's more like Dutch
@@DerMarschliedKameradAfrikaans is better, Dutch sounds weird.. Afrikaans did it better.
But whenn the natives begin to trouble..you...
In german it was better
I'd say both are better, the singer of the German version also sang this version
I prefer the Afrikaans version, but at the other hand, my judgement isnt neutral. As I speak Afrikaans better then German
@@dutchskyrimgamer.youtube2748 i'm in the opposite situation😅
Southafrica belongs to Zulu, Xhosa, Venda, etc, etc, not to boers and English.
Get a hobby to do. South Africa belongs to the Boers just as much as it belongs to the Zulus/Xhosa/Venda, etc, etc. They arrived to the Cape at around the same time. They did their part to form the South Africa we know today just as much as the other groups of people.
@@cirixiumthey didn't arrive at the same time. Dutch and English arrived in 1600s, Zulus in 1700s, Xhosas and others in 1800s. South Africa is white.
@@CombineGeography The San would beg to differ.
@@MonsieurWeevil who cares, they're like less than %1 of the south african population today. not even talking about their language, at least ooga booga makes sense. beatboxing doesn't.
The Boers won the wars ,as far as I know that is how country's obtained their land . The Republic never belonged to the blacks that is why they carried passes the same as a tourist do when visiting another country, the blacks had their homelands they only entered the republic to look for work and later with lies and the help of the corrupt world media claimed it as theirs , look it up ,it's facts .
Nice
