How to know you're a writer
    1. You think about writing stuff
    2. You think about how to write stuff
    3. You want to write
    4. You read things that people have written
    5. You write
    Nice

It’s always in classes like maths in school, instead of doing the work I’ll put myself into the perspective of one of the characters in my stories and think of where I want the plot of my story to go in the future instead of actually doing the work...😬

I realise that I talk to myself A LOT when I'm doing something and my mind is somewhere else so maybe a subconscious part of me is just always wanting to narrate and write even when I can't write my own reality 😂

I have tried to write a book but I got writers block and my mind would constantly fantasize about the ending so my book never made sense.

      Writing books definitely isn't easy!

    • @cenedra20
      @cenedra20 7 ปีที่แล้ว +126

Maybe write the ending first. Then you don't need to fantasize about it, and once you finish writing it it's out of your mind. You might want to see how it all started...

    • @BG12sofia
      @BG12sofia 7 ปีที่แล้ว +78

So why don't you write the ending first?
It has worked for me. I sometimes skip to the ending and/or to the cool parts of the story. After writing them, I ask myself "How did this happen?" and work from there until it all fits together.
      Give it a shot!

Usually when I try to write something in my head I'll make my characters, and then I thought up random side stories that would be good for a sequel or something, but never any idea of how to actually get to that future. Like I have this idea about this girl with these powers she suddenly got out of the blue, but then I thought of side stories of how it would be like post-discovery of these powers from her friends and co, anyway I don't know how I'll even explain her powers and why it just suddenly happened or even how she hide it for the time she did. That the types of problems I have.

Maybe I'm not a writer since I have only 3 signs and I don't write I just dream. I really want to get into writing because I just want my fantasies to come out on paper but I'm too lazy and I get stuck a lot plus I stuck at writing - my grammar is horrible.

My grammar sucks as well but I started writing and I can see how my writing and grammar improves. How will you get better in writing, when you don't practice? Always to tell: I WILL do this, I WILL do that to improve it. Won't help you. Just start writing and your skills will improve by its own. :)
I am not a english speaker so my grammar here is even worse. I'm sorry :D

Angel Starfire You have to allow yourself to write trash! I've written two novels, struggled long and hard, and trashed both of them. Now, I'm not scared to write complete crap and end up being far more productive, and forgiving to myself, than before. Perfectionism is such a struggling issue for many people, and it took me turning my back on so much work to realize that.

That is an EXCELLENT sign if you're entertained by your own writing!
I'm a writer also and when any of my work entertains me when I later read it, it's a great feeling.
Now, if you're BORED by your own writing, it's not a good sign.

I always loved writing. I've kept a journal for a number of years. I've kept writing my thoughts, experiences, ideas and things important to me in my journal. I've never realized it until recently how much I want to write a book. I always called myself "an aspiring writer". After today, thanks to you bookishpixie I'll say "I'm a writer". Enjoyed your post. Will look forward for the next one.

I used to frequent the odd writing forum until I realised that it was taking up valuable time when I should have been typing away, not to mention the squabbles and bitchiness.

This video may be the first one I saw from you're channel but it definitely isn't the last.((definitely subscribing to your channel💕)) Also I wanna thank you for making this video...because you gave me the motivation to keep writing. I'm going through a hard time right now and actually wanted to give up writing just because I didn't consider myself a (good) writer. But especially the last point made me realize that you should never give up on what you're doing, espacially if you love it. No matter how bad the outcome may seem, you can always improve. Thanks to you. And to everyone else; keep fighting and never give up, because it's worth seeing what you can build/create in the end.

hmmm.. i think i'm more of a scribe... i mostly write aphorisms and homilies (short, insightful and/or instructive paragraphs)... I dont think about characters or storylines or descriptions... i don't feel guilty for not writing, because i only write when i'm inspired, but, I do feel guilty for not reading, since I can write without reading only about as much as I can drive without stopping for gas... reading and filtering other author's styles and perspectives through myself is mainly how i hone my craft and take in ideas to breakdown, challenge, etc. I am a ferment of other minds. :D i also go through periods of inactivity, or seeming inactivity, where i am wrestling with some serious dichotomy or conflict of priorities, just thinking about it all the time, but without being able to formulate a clear position, -- and then one day or week it suddenly crystallizes and pours out of me and I'm just, like, manic for a while until the storm passes and the wind goes out of my sails.

I'm every single one of those signs, but not particularly the reading part. I also get stuck a lot and writers block is a constant everlasting problem I just can't seem to work around. I prefer writing short stories rather than long thought out "books" and that makes me wonder if I'm really cut-out to be a writer.

      Be MOe
"If you don't have time to read, you don't have the time (or the tools) to write. Simple as that." - Stephen King
With that said, just find a good book to read. Do some research on things you are interested in. If it's horror, find an author (or multiple authors) who specializes in horror and research some of their books. Also, find some books written by prominent figures in the writing world on writing itself. Stephen King has his own book on writing called "Stephen King: On Writing." Plus, since he mostly writes horror, some good books are "It," "The Stand," "Under The Dome" and many other classics.
Oh, and make sure, if you don't really like reading, that you start off with simple, short reads, like the Goosebumps series or Of Mice and Men. Then after you start eating through those you can begin tackling bigger reads, like the books I mention above, which are over 1000 pages.

Thank you so much, I wasn't sure if I was headed in the right direction, feeling stuck but still feeling the need to write on my book. I have been working for 4 days, and I have already written 28 chapters. In the past when I tried writing a book I would get blocked and just... stop. But this time, I can see everything so clearly, it just makes it so easy to write. It comes naturally.
I've been trying to find out what I wanted to do with my life, and it took forever to figure out that all I needed (since I am pretty antisocial) was to be in my own head. That's the one place that's ever been comfortable. And now I have a way to bring my experiences, things I haven't been able to put into words or tell anyone about, to life.
After what you said, it makes complete sense and I just wanted to thank you, because it brought a little bit of confidence and clarity back to me, which is my intention with my books in the first place. :)

Overthinking, cooking fantasy stories in a fucking second, knowing the climax of a movie just by watching the trailer (same kinda plot ones) and if you feel grammar is like, a piece of cake but you know you can improve yourself.
If u usually don't finish a tv show/kdrama/cdrama/long-movie, etc, the reason maybe because you didn't like the drag in that when they could have just finished it or u felt its extra. For example, u stopped watching a romantic drama because,
    1. They already gave you the biggest spoiler through the Drama's cover and yet they are trying to show the second lead role like she/he is the first lead role.
    2. These love triangles are dragged af and even after they finish that, they show some kind of commotion between the main lead roles which makes no sense.
Yeah! You're a writer, just get your hands on Wattpad, inkitt or any other writing platform. I prefer the Wattpad. It's best for beginners.
One more thing, I think many of you reading this would be some young writers. I would like to tell I something,
DON'T FUCKING WRITE THE WHOLE STORY IN THE DESCRIPTION!!!
I have read so many books online and some stuff that was supposed to be in suspense is revealed in the description of the story. That's annoying, isn't it?
I conclude, **Write books for yourself and not for your readers**
    Wait...
Did I forget to mention daydreaming? My zodiac sign is famous for that. Pisces will be great writers. Just go open Wattpad or install it if u haven't (I feel like Wattpad paid me to do this, but it didnt) Try Grammarly too. Free version's help is more than enough.
    HAPPY WRITERS!

My idea for the story is not on paper. Problem is that I'm not that organized, and I also have other stuff and interests going on all the time. Which is why poetry is probably the easiest for me.
