  • The Raconteurs - NME/Radio 1 Stage, Leeds Festival 2006-08-27

Fistful of Dollars (Morricone) - Intro
    Intimate Secretary
    Level
    Steady, As She Goes
    Together

    Store Bought Bones
Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down) (Cher cover)
    Broken Boy Soldiers
The Christian Life (Byrds/Gram Parsons cover)
    Blue Veins
Headin' for the Texas Border (Flaming Groovies cover)
    5 On The 5
    Hands
    Bonus:
    Hands (JonRoss 2006-06-23)
    The video:
This show was posted to the usenet some weeks ago as raw (non DVD-compliant) video. I had to re-encode it to be able to author a DVD cause the original bitrate peaked at 12 mbps at some points.
I just wanted to make a working DVD for myself to watch, so I don't remember the exact settings. I re-encoded with TMPGEnc 2.5 at VBR with the slowest mode and with a highest br of 8 mbps (I tried to set it higher but the program just put it back to 8).
    The setlist:
According to some reviews I found, they also played TV Eye (Stooges), Teenage Kicks (Undertones) and It Ain't Easy (Bowie, but really Ron Davies), but the video clocks in after one hour, which was supposedly the duration of the show. The only thing you hear is the riff of TV Eye (and Interstellar Overdrive) at some point.

I was very fortunate to get a free ticket to this festival from a friend who was part of the security, I spent the Saturday having a nice time walking round the site it was sunny I saw some of jets set in the afternoon got myself a henna tattoo don't remember any other bands really , later that evening it started to rain and it was heavy the ground soon changed from solid ground to slippy and then muddy I think the kaiser chiefs had just finished playing and there was a surge, hundreds of soggy festival goers
all trying to get out of the downpour It was hard to stay upright, I knew the raconteurs were on in a marquee where I watched jet earlier in the afternoon so I made my way back there being careful not to fall on my backside on the way, when I arrived I couldn't believe how full it was we were all crammed inside this massive tent it was raining so hard now that it was leaking in, this only added to the atmosphere, it was electric! well this video tells the rest of the story what an amazing show I was blown away, by far the best live act I have ever witnessed bar none.

I was also at this festival but unfortunately a paying customer. I was a huge white stripes fan (still am) and having seen them headline the main stage I was over the moon to see them in the tent. Tent headliners always had a certain pull the main stage couldn't deliver at reading and Leeds.
Over the years in this tent I've seen the mc5, at the drive in, Devendra banhart, primal scream, dizzee rascal (the set before this one). Nothing came close to this.
I remember the rain being torrential and I think from memory pearl jam were on the main stage. The rain on the Sunday night this year was so bad it stopped the rioting that used to end every event (due to rip off prices and jumped up security stealing your dope) and the rioting never came back but I think by 2007/08 the festival scene had totally changed and was becoming increasingly mainstream.

So it seems you are somewhat a leeds veteran, Bravo!, i only went the once someone did mention the riots but i never knew this happened at the festival i thought this was a more in the town thing apparently they told the Kaiser Chiefs not to perform , there big hit- i predict a riot , for fear of them inciting one but in the spirit of rock n roll they did it anyway, on the same subject the downside for me about festivals was always overpricing and heavy handed security they take your money then treat you like shit , but back to the music amazing night always etched in my memory thanks for the feedback Mark

These are the kind of concerts that cost Jack his voice for a few months - but ironically brought us The Dead Weather, which more than made up for it. A very busy guy. Can't believe this is now almost 20 years in the past.

The intro is not "Fistful of Dollars" but "Ecstasy of Gold" also by Morricone.
