Beautiful and thoroughly enjoyable. Thank you for taking us along. I grew up in the Rocky Mountains and it great to see similarities from my home to the other side of the world.
I just love your channel. You've inspired me to get out into the mountains here in Hamamatsu to try some river/stream fishing. I'm glad to see that you appreciate your Firebox as much as I appreciate mine - so functional and becomes more beautiful with every use:) Thanks for your videos!
I always enjoy your videos and seeing your way of life. You always show parts of Japan that I would love to see one day. Our family appreciates your perspective on N.Korea at the end of the video. Japan and USA make a strong Alliance, one that NK would be foolish to challenge. We all hope that peace prevails.
I love watching your videos. These riverside lunches are my favorite. It's so peaceful to hear you talk over the sounds of the river. I feel like I am there with you.
Hello from Florida! I’ve fished since am 10 salt water only. Didn’t try raw fish until just a few years ago, I was missing a lot, but it’s all in the freshness of the meat and the cut. Will try trout next when back in Colorado. Love your riverside lunches remainds me of childhood camping must give it a try sometime
The rest of the Asians don't really think like you do. Asians will continue trading with Japan but what they had done in the past was beyond horrible. By bombing the pearl harbor, empire japan wanted to dominate China,Korea,Vietnam, the Phillippines and the rest of the Asia killing and destroying when none of them had done it to japan. I do not know just WHERE you study the history but the purpose of studying it is because history repeats itself. I'll wait another 100 years to see if they are not trying to beef up their military power with all the money generated from the trading with the rest of the world.
Excellent knives Thank you for the video. I live in Moscow. My homeland is Sakhalin. On Sakhalin, the same beautiful nature and the same fish. It was interesting to watch this video.
Thankyou Doc, very much enjoy watching your outdoor lunch and you indoor dinner videos! Heck I love all your videos. Didn't see very many hunting videos this season? Have you not gone out much? You have a Beautiful country!! The majority of us here in the states think that North Korea, Kim Jong is ridiculous also. I just can't see or figure out the motivation behind it all?? Nobody wins with that level of destruction!! Be safe hope your friends and family are safe as well, thank you again for bringing a small part of us with you into your back country!
You live in paradise. learned a lot about sharpening from your videos, in fact people from work family and all around wants me to sharpen their knives to shaving mirror polish. Thanks from all the knowledge you put on your videos virtuovice greetings from Argentina the southern country of south america
This knife can be purchased as a blade blank for around $50 so if anyone has enough skills I highly suggest making your own. Its really fun and becomes more special.
I love your summary! Haha. Love the Land you are from because it provides you with life. Maybe you could show us some more of the temples that are around your area sometime? Great honest real videos.
Hi sir, I spent four years in Japan when I was in the Navy. I loved your country very much. I feel very bad you have to deal with North Korea being so close. Anyways I like you videos a lot so please keep them coming.
Dear Doc, it is time to go fishing again:) we need another trip into the highlands and a nice relaxing meal:) with your Bravo 1 and Mora or your filleting knife and your silky saw:)
Salvelinus leucomaenis, the whitespotted char, is an East Asian trout in the genus Salvelinus, called iwana in Japanese. Both landlocked and ocean-run forms occur. The landlocked form typically grows up to 35 cm (1 ft 2 in), and prefers low-temperature streams. The seagoing fish typically grows to 70 cm (28 in) long. The largest reported specimen was 120 cm (3 ft 11 in) long and the oldest was nine years old.
Dear Wako san, thanks for your come back , it is always a pleasure to share some time with you despite the distance... from France with the best wishes
Thank you for this video, Doc Wako. It was just what I needed today. Stay safe over there. I have family currently stationed in Japan and I worry about them, given the North Korean situation. I'm sure it will turn out okay. The Norks like to talk big, but never seem to do anything. Let's hope it stays that way.
Great video as usual. I hear concern and sadness in your voice re: NK which is understood. It is sad to imagine what could happen to your country, your people, your nature that you love so much. I am from the USA and we stand with you and your country and your concerns for we share the same fate. I encourage everyone to live each day to the fullest, love your family and friends and get out and enjoy nature.
I enjoy your videos although lately i find myself hungry at the end of them. May the good Lord keep you and your family safe..Hopefully someone puts an end to that Psycho in North Korea soon.
Another great video! I noticed you do not have a Diving Sparrow Knife in your collection? I highley recommend it, phenomenal slicing and ergonomics on this knife.
Yamame (land-locked) trout/salmon . . . "One of the most popular species for Japanese stream anglers are no doubt cherry salmon. Landlocked cherry salmon or yamame excites the hearts of dry fly anglers and sea/lake-run grow to full salmon attracts spey anglers into large coastal rivers. Landlocked fish show large par mark with black speckles with particle of red along its lateral line and this remarkable colorization give them the name: jewel of mountains."
I was thinking about buying this knife. I love the look and feel. But the Mora Garberg is 1/3 the cost, and from your videos, very functional. Still debating.
I have one of the original Temagami knives from Helle designed by Les Stroud. They later changed the design slightly to remove jimping on the spine that was deemed useless. It's very soft steel, though easy to sharpen. Can't strike a fire steel well at all, so they made a higher carbon version. I've had my knife since the very first production run and used it for many years. It's a nice knife but I have found better blades since.
Thank you very much for this video, if one day you come to Tahiti i'll make you discover good food and delicious fish. I like to eat fresh tahitian tuna with wasabi and sushi/sashimi sauce, a little rice vinegar
Thank you again for letting us vicariously enjoy your fishing trip and beautiful country. It is, indeed, ridiculous for North Korea to threaten Japan, Guam and others in the region. I am sorry for the anxiety that it must cause you and your people. Know that the US has the will and the ability to respond to such aggression and will do it's best to protect our allies. Someday, I would love to see your land and enjoy the beautiful streams and mountains. Happy fishing Dr. Wako!
You probably know this, but in most US waters it would be illegal to keep trout that small. That was a lot of work for a few bites! I love your riverside lunch videos.
That coffee package is brilliant. I am pretty good at making cowboy coffee by the cup but you have to be careful and let the grounds settle then not drink it all. I took the time to look it up and found it and similar but sadly all of them have to be ordered and shipped to the US causing them to be very expencive.
Do you still have the Temagami I modified for you? I still have mine, the one I bought at the same time. They are brother knives. LOL I love it the handle is very comfortable.
The modified Temagami you paid effort on for my hunting purpose was sold to a bushcraft lover in Japan. Your dual purpose modification was not able to defeat the hunting specific handles like Fox River, and I noticed its original handle from Helle was even better for wood jobs. I am sorry. Regards.
Yes he is an old friend and I have done several things for him. We were trying for more of a hunting handle over a Busahcraft handle and while the handle worked for him the blade on the Temagami did not as well on deer.
Thank you for your upload. Regarding your concerns; it seems to me that the nation most capable of dealing with North Korea isn't the United States, it is China. If China were to decide that the regime in North Korea didn't serve their foreign policy interests it would cease to exist, by fair means or foul. There is a complicated, and dangerous, power game being waged, and I can only hope that an accommodation can be found between the Americans and Chinese that would make the 'mad dog' policy disappear, not least for the benefit of the long suffering North Korean people. I hope that the expansionists, both in the United States and in China, can be pushed aside for the long term interests of us all.
You are a hunter my friend. Hunters have respect for the nature. The Fishes you cathed are very small. You have to let them free. Thats what from a hunter expected.
Dr. Wako has explained in other videos, the large fish spawn to the ocean and only the small ones remain, so if you are going to fish and eat, it is going to be small fish in certain streams. He knows his wildlife ecology where he lives.
I learn something new every time I watch your videos. "Sashimi on the rice is sushi." Do you bring water with you for cooking and drinking, or do you drink from the stream? Also, the U.S. and Japan are inseparable allies. You can count on President Trump and the American people to support you and defend you, including Guam.
We have water clean enough to cook with from the stream. I suppose NK already has nuclear warheads and ICBMs. So I don't hope the US will attack NK from our side but wait it collapse itself. The weird Kim cannot launch nuclear missiles from his side because he has them to live rich and long as we do. He cannot live without them. Take care.
Once again I say you are a credit to the human race, and a rare gem among youtubers. You are appreciated.
He cooks rice in the woods. I can't even cook it correctly in a kitchen...
YOU CATCH MORE FISH IN A TWENTY MINUTE VIDEO THAN I'VE CAUGHT IN THE LAST FIVE YEARS....
Beautiful and thoroughly enjoyable. Thank you for taking us along. I grew up in the Rocky Mountains and it great to see similarities from my home to the other side of the world.

Good to be here at your place and see you fishing, thanks for the trip, thumbs up and best regards from the boys from Down Under.

I love watching your videos. These riverside lunches are my favorite. It's so peaceful to hear you talk over the sounds of the river. I feel like I am there with you.
And people like the good Doc should represent their countries. The world would be in better shape.
Whenever I watch your riverside cook videos, I run to my kitchen lol. Great video!
your videos give me peace of mind

Great video V. I will be hoping to visit your beautiful country soon . Thank you.
I am grateful to be allied with Japan. Wonderful people and country, Thank you for your videos and the insight into your culture. Very much enjoyed.

Wako-san, I would love to visit. Your videos make me happy. The eating looks so umai.
What a satisfying video. I would love to spend a day with this guy doing stuff like this
This knife can be purchased as a blade blank for around $50 so if anyone has enough skills I highly suggest making your own. Its really fun and becomes more special.

You should try a scalpel for your fish . Thinner blade .Good luck and God bless you and your family... Lee
Dear Wako san, thanks for your come back , it is always a pleasure to share some time with you despite the distance... from France with the best wishes
Very good I had my son out fishing in the river yesterday. We are planning a kayaking trip in the bay to catch some food tomorrow
Always enjoy your videos ! Keep up the good work !!

Thank you for your videos, I really enjoy 😊
Enjoy watching your videos. Thank you for them.
I enjoy your videos although lately i find myself hungry at the end of them. May the good Lord keep you and your family safe..Hopefully someone puts an end to that Psycho in North Korea soon.
My son and I really enjoyed the video, he is ready to try some fish like that now. :D
Another great video! I noticed you do not have a Diving Sparrow Knife in your collection? I highley recommend it, phenomenal slicing and ergonomics on this knife.

Thank you for telling up about the soy and wasabi .Can you show us how much rice and water you put in the german pot
before you cook it. Good video .
Oh, one more thing; Do you tie your own flies? What patterns do you find most productive? I hope to learn to tie flies soon.
I tied myself when I was young. But now I buy and the selling flies are well made and not very expensive for a few pieces for my summer fishing.
Be safe ...and thank you for your videos
I have a Temagami blank blade. Anyone see any videos or links to making a handle for the Temagami ? It. Has a hidden part of the full tang.
I was thinking about buying this knife. I love the look and feel. But the Mora Garberg is 1/3 the cost, and from your videos, very functional. Still debating.
I have both knives. The Temagami is much nicer, the Garberg is more robust
Thank you from Denmark🇩🇰 I love my country too, and would love to see Japan someday
Very enjoyable day thankyou for sharing I love your land too these are very worrisome times crazy people will destroy themselves eventuallyy
Very peaceful. Thanks for the video.

Even the carbon version doesn't strike a fire well because the edges of the spine are slightly rounded from the sides.
virtuovice That's rather a poor oversight for a bushcraft knife. Fixable with a little work on a rough waterstone.
I don't think so.
Awesome, I´m a big fan! :)
Another great video! Thank you. Also where can I buy some
Of those awesome Daiwa waders?
You live a very fulfilling life. Oh and we will always stand by our allies.
Great video!! Thank you very much for sharing!!
Thank you very much for this video, if one day you come to Tahiti i'll make you discover good food and delicious fish. I like to eat fresh tahitian tuna with wasabi and sushi/sashimi sauce, a little rice vinegar
hello Wako, have you ever done any hot tent camping in the winter, with stove? thanks for the videos there are great, long time watcher/subscriber!
The 2nd fish was in very fast moving water. wow.
Wonderfull vid, Have you tried tenkara fishing, it should be perfekt for these small streams
I tried Tenkara when I was a kid. It needs wider overhead space and casts short.
Thank you again for letting us vicariously enjoy your fishing trip and beautiful country. It is, indeed, ridiculous for North Korea to threaten Japan, Guam and others in the region. awesome little coffee setup!
I am here almost two years later

🇬🇧🇯🇵 U.K. Is with you ✊️🙏
Thanks for another great video!
Love these vids! Any chance you will be bringing the whole family out soon?
great stuff Doc
Thumbs up from Chattanooga, TN, USA.
Do you still have the Temagami I modified for you? I still have mine, the one I bought at the same time. They are brother knives. LOL I love it the handle is very comfortable.

A very nice lunch, Doc.
Aloha
Delicious 😋 I want to go camping with you 😀
I love the lunchtime videos
nice fillet knife, sir.. what brand is it?
It is Rapala 4inch super flex made by Martini Finland.
that's cool! thanks..
I share your concerns too. Anyway i am dying to see more of you hunting videos.
hello , have you even had a bear encounter while on one of your trips to the mountains
once during fishing in a river, twice during walking in woods for deer hunting outside the bear season.
Thank you for your upload. Regarding your concerns; it seems to me that the nation most capable of dealing with North Korea isn't the United States, it is China. Good stuff Dr.👍🏻
I love your videos. What is your post address? I'd like to send to you some russian bushcrafting equipment just for fun, if you are interested.
Hello trout fishing people . . . "Sashimi on the rice is sushi."
We will never abandon Japan................period
what are those bells you carry? ;]
ratrod diesels he carries them to scare away bears He mentioned it in another video once.
Why not Tenkara ?
Is that the same Temagami from Shugakuso bought last November?
Yes. The Temagami has semi full tang construction and takes batoning no problem. Its handle and blade is optimum for feathering obviously. Take care.
Hello virtuovice, awesome video! Are the bells on your belt for warning hunters in the area of your presence, or for another reason?
to warn off brown bears the population of which is increasing these days.
What are the bells for?
illtellulatta03 Let's the bears know he's coming. Bad to surprise a bear.
Nice river side area, looks pretty wild. Is this somewhere in Hokkaido?
Cheers my Japanese brother :)
Yes, thanks.
Waco. glad to see you are doing well.
Thank you.
Keep up the good video's

Is there a purpose for the bells?
ferretapocalypse to scare away bears
...or invitation to dinner lol
the sound of the river is SO loud one cant understand in the end what you say!!!
WE got your back!!
