Actually, this comment is not even for you personally, but for this general misperception. I live in South Korea, and the most "natural" young girl here uses 20 to 30 skin care products or methods weekly. Despite all the care products they use to keep their skin white, they use umbrellas even in sunny weather! Of course, there are less well-groomed women here (usually just older ones), but you won't see them on screens easily.
It should be the case everywhere.
There has been no value left regarding intimacy etc. this should be a very private and precious thing.
I can translate what she said: "One night stands are frowned upon. Koreans do it anyway. For those who don't want to feel shame they become boyfriend and girlfriend first. However I'm not going to talk about how common it is to become boyfriend and girlfriend after 2 or 3 dates because i don't want to say anything distasteful on camera. "
Right? Thanks, I feel like she's either fooling herself or just out of touch with society, it's 2024, a city like Seoul is such a modern place. You are spot on!! I think publically it's one thing; in an interview she better give this answer... But in private??? Oh it's another story. When I visited Korea many times, I was a bit surprised to find that casual sex was kind of normal, because of public fakery like this and the facade of sexual prudishness presented by Korean media. When no one's looking, Seoul is a very wild place. Don't be fooled by this interview at all.
The “boyfriend/girlfriend” label (and likewise breaking up too) gets declared quickly and almost casually though, because they’re fooling themselves into believing they’re in something serious when they’re still just feeling each other out.
And this is why this way really isn’t any better. It’s like American conservative Christian’s getting married at 20 so they can say they never had sex before marriage but wonder why they are divorced at 30…
I agree, but some people just click very quick and just want to be with someone
Yes! They call each other bf/gf super quickly so they can feel okay about what they are doing together, say they love each other super quickly without understanding what that means, then break up super fast without learning patience and communication skills within a relationship. Then repeat.
There is something similar in Japan. Couples come out as an official couple and then get serious.
the bf/gf title is not marriage. you are supposed to enter the title when you become exclusive to test out whether or not youll be suited for marriage. there is no difference between exclusively dating and being bf/gf. the arrogance in thinking the western way is more efficient when the divorce rates are nearly 14 times higher in the US.

Relationships have a better shot at success when people get to know each other emotionnally before getting to know each other physically.
However it depends on how much you know yourself and your worth for things to be healthy.
You’re smart! Many people don’t know that because they lack knowledge which result in lack of awareness. The more you know about someone, the more predictable they are, which means the success rate of the relationship would be higher if both partners knew enough about each other so they would know what to do keep the relationship healthy and what to expect from each other. It’s refreshing to see people with common sense like you 🤓
It can be known better in a relationship. It doesn't necessarily require.
Thing is a lot of korean relationships end up being short term and stay surface level. The lines of when a relationship begins and what defines the start are so blurry there. You can be in the talking stage with a person and they would unknowingly consider it dating.
Yes , and this is so in balkan and eastern europe 😊

It's definitely not conservative with young people anymore. That's why there are so many love motels.
No. It's still not much different for the young generation in korea.
The a big reason for all the love hotels is that many young adults still live at home with family, not only that but the walls don’t do much soundproofing

The thumbnail for this is so funny. Because it plays a bit of the video where the subtitles as she is speaking say “it is traditionally not common too” then it cuts back the still thumbnail with the subtitles of “have sex”. Which I found very funny.
I've toured South Korea by bicycle several times, and the Love Motel is ubiquitous. On weekends, it is not uncommon in regular hotels to see young couples checking in to spend the weekend together. I can't imagine that there is no fucking involved.

Ok so I am confused. Korean people usually state their intentions after 3-5 dates and start becoming boyfriend and girlfriend. Three to five dates and give up the goodies is not that conservative.
Compared to the west it definitely is. 3-5 dates before even kissing would literally never fly in the US unless you're a teenager. They would just think you're not interested.
So if your "stated intention" is to be with someone, at that point I don't see what waiting does - especially because marriage is basically becoming a thing of the past, so no one is waiting for that anymore unless you're like some brainwashed alt-right evangelical christian.

Really glad there are still these types of cultures. Todays values are corrupted.
Yep, that's why they start dating so fast and also break up so fast 😅 Yes, there are definitely many conservative, traditional people, but it's quite similar to what it is back home. In my personal experience, korean people think we, westerners are much more sexually liberated than they are but truth be told, the only different thing is how sex is portrayed in the media and how society reacts to it. However, you will commonly find people having one night stands, affairs, fetishes, they just don't talk much about it.
Stop the cap. Westerners mindset or philosophy is very different from South Korea. I’m from the West, my best friend is Korean so I know a lot. South Korea hate violence and problematic people, that’s why they take their image and reputation seriously. They hate guns, drugs, prostitution etc. they value social harmony. In the West, it’s narcissism everywhere lmao.
How is getting know someone before you give your energy out to them physically a bad thing, this generation only thinks about sex.
It is not as common in Korea to have one night stands or alternative lifestyles. There is a harsh stigma against premarital pregnancy. People are expected to get married if that happens.

Reason #184,849,735,820 why these cultures are infinitely better than western culture as a whole.
Everywhere you walk in South Korea, you’re either going to see a couple hugging, holding hands or being romantic. Koreans take family, romantic relationships, friendships or relationships in general very seriously. They value social harmony, it’s part of their culture. My best friend is Korean and the time I spend with her almost a year ago in South Korea, was the best experience in my life. Koreans do know how to make you feel special, because they genuinely value relationships. They’re professionals at what they do. Get yourself a Korean friend or partner, get interested in the culture and your life will blossom 🇰🇷❤️
Darling you sure leaving in fantasy😂 Keep going🎉
@@Jimmy.Sun-Sq objective truth is absolute, that’s why you can’t prove me wrong 😂
That’s interesting because I had the opposite experience with a lot of Koreans during my time living there. The ones I found that truly valued relationships were gyopos or those just highly exposed to foreign cultures.
@@coffeetae your perception of people or things in general shapes your reality. If you’re not aware of that, then you’re already setting yourself up for failure.
The reason why my Korean friend and I are best friends is simply because, there’s no reason for us to not be 😂 Don’t understand what I mean? It means that there are reasons for us to be best friends, therefore we are. We are compatible, we know each other very well, so we both have become predictable, which builds trust and comfort. Because we are compatible, bonding and communication comes natural. And because we know each other very well, the trust is there. So we have no choice but to be best friends because we both wanted to. Actions and decisions are determined by “reason” which is inevitable.
I will note that - you are attracted to what you are, in other words, you are subconsciously attracted to someone or something that is a reflection of your personality or you. So if you’ve had bad experiences, then you need to become more aware of your personality, self awareness, and figure out who’s at fault.
@@dripxenseixensei3822 It’s great that you and your best friend have a good relationship. I also had great korean friendships. I was simply stating that in general, I (and other foreigners that I have heard of) have noticed the culture difference in relationships. It’s a deep rooted issue in korean culture that I wouldn’t be able to begin getting into. I certainly never encountered the same issue with my friendships back home, so I would not consider myself the direct problem but rather the cultural difference in values. Consider yourself lucky if you never had a single bad experience.
This is true! I’ve also heard from Korean friends tho that Koreans get into relationships SUPER fast! I think it’s called the 3 date rule or something
And that's the most sensible thing to do in my opinion. Sex creates a deep emotional bond, so you have to be sure the other person is going to be with you in a relationship.

Hook up culture in Korea is wild even for western understanding. The whole bf and gf thing is also something else. Don't get fooled, many people call each other bf and gf from the first date easily. Is she living in some different K-Drama Korea perhaps 😂
