Ok so I am confused. Korean people usually state their intentions after 3-5 dates and start becoming boyfriend and girlfriend. Three to five dates and give up the goodies is not that conservative.
Compared to the west it definitely is. 3-5 dates before even kissing would literally never fly in the US unless you're a teenager. They would just think you're not interested. So if your "stated intention" is to be with someone, at that point I don't see what waiting does - especially because marriage is basically becoming a thing of the past, so no one is waiting for that anymore unless you're like some brainwashed alt-right evangelical christian.

Romantic relationships are not a beautiful thing. Romance causes a lot of problems in this world. Life is a lot better without romance than it is with it. Romantic love is not special at all, and I think that the romantic type of love isn't real. More than half of romantic relationships end in a breakup/divorce. Romantic relationships are objectively very prone to failure. And most couples who are still together are usually not happy being together. Also, there are a lot of toxic romantic relationships. Like an example is that abuse happens a lot in romantic relationships. This world would be a much better place if there was no romance. Everything would be much better if everyone stopped dating and getting married. Romance is a bad thing.
@@kookinist I don't think romantic love is real or special, and I think romantic relationships are a bad thing. I think humans should just stop being in romantic relationships. I feel like this world would be a much better place without romance than it is with it. Romance seems like an ugly thing. Many fathers won't allow their daughters to date when they are in high school or still living with them. It does seem that nearly all fathers are hoping that their daughters never date or get married and remain single for their whole life due to the dangers and risks of romantic relationships. The overprotective father thing is proof that romantic relationships are a bad thing, and that this world would be a much better place without them. If someday that the human race ditches the concept of romance and romantic relationships, and got rid of stuff like dating and marriage, fathers would be happy about it since they wouldn't ever have to worry about their daughters ever dating if that ever happened. People (especially women) should avoid being in a romantic relationship and be single for life since romantic relationships are dangerous.
Ya …. This is definitely changing quickly with younger generations. Lots of Koreans don’t want relationships. Situationships are becoming a big thing here tho
True but what she is saying isnt true .. To put it simply, Korea is a very Christian country with a majority of people being Christian. Christian values also seep into the conservative dating mentality. Koreans are taught to be well mannered and respectful until put in a situation where those go out the window. When angered…we are called Korean tigers for a reason.
Maybe things have changed, but when I was in college, in the realm of Asian girls, Korean girls were the easiest to get in the sack. Chinese girls were in the middle, and Japanese girls were damn near impossible. Maybe being an international student loosens them up some.

In South Korea, there are three types of dating. (1) One is called "썸some," derived from the English word "something," where only the "some" part is used. This refers to the stage before officially dating, where people are exploring each other. While there is debate in Korea, it is generally understood that having sex during this stage is not common. However, (2) in Korea, there is a term called "선섹후사," which can be translated to SFRL (Sex First, Relationship Later). "선" means first, "섹" means sex, "후" means later, and "사" means relationship. (3) And as mentioned in the interview, there is also "선사후섹," which stands for "RFSL" (Relationship First, Sex Later). The speaker seems to suggest that types 1 and 3 are more common, and compared to other countries, this is certainly true to some extent. However, one clear difference from other countries is that having sex in Korea typically implies some intention of forming a relationship. (Of course, this excludes situations where the sole goal is a one-night stand, which is naturally the case in any country and any era.)
Let me break it down for you about the difference between Korean '썸some' and 'situationships'. The big thing is, with '썸some', we never, ever consider physical intimacy as a given part of the deal. Sure, some physical intimacy might happen while you're in that '썸some' phase, but when we talk about what 'some' really means and how it's used in real life, getting physical is seen as kinda reckless and shallow at that stage. That's a major difference from situationships right there. Now, here's another key point: with 'some', we're actually keeping an eye on the possibility of it turning into a real relationship. But with situationships, it's like the whole thing is about trying not to think about it becoming a serious relationship from the get-go. So, to sum it up: 'Some' is like this light, exploratory thing where you're checking each other out with the idea that it might become something more. Situationships, on the other hand, are all about not even considering it becoming a real relationship. It's more like, "Let's enjoy the perks of being a couple without any of the responsibility or commitment." These two are seriously different in what they're all about. 'Some' is about potential, while situationships are about keeping things vague and commitment-free while still getting the benefits of a relationship.
In my experience, people become bf/gf much faster than people do in America. In America, you could be stuck in the "talking" stage for months, but I know couples in Korea that became "official" upon the first date, even if they only ultimately lasted 2/3 months
When she said that that’s changing slowly, my heart started pounding, like wtf!? that should be the normal standard for everywhere in the world, having sex without being anything to the other person is just sick
If this actually makes you uncomfortable and sick, then you need to evaluate why you care about other peoples lives so much. Especially others on the whole other side of the world
Don't give up that tradition. Once you give it up you won't be able to go back and here in the US I can just tell you that you will not like what you find.
I expected her to say 'no sex before marriage,' but instead, she said it's uncommon to have sex before becoming boyfriend and girlfriend. This reflects how much things have changed in the 20th century, where sex may be considered acceptable once a romantic relationship is established, even before marriage. To me, her statement doesn’t seem conservative, as pre-marital sex is still a no-go in my view.
The other element to that same question is the unaddressed racial element. Most south Koreans ultra conservative and prefer to not date out of their race!

Sad that its changing tbh. Sad to see other traditional cultures being poisoned slowly.
1st get to know yourself , gifts, values, strengths, mission vision purpose, weaknesses, your wounds and begin to heal and control yourself. 2nd date someone who has done the same. 3. Talk about what you want to give and receive and the purpose for dating. 4. if youre on the same page for longevity…then date, then kiss. (If you can control yourself). Then get married then get really creative as much as possible for the rest of your life and stay spiritually, emotionally, psychologically and physically healthy so you can do so! 😂
No please keep it. Just because something is traditional doesn’t make it something that needs to change. I wish here in America we were more conservative.
The idea of conservative is that you have to be in a relationship? While I acknowledge that's not the most liberal of mindsets, it's not the conservative, either
Eastern Europe is much more conservative, having sex is extremely a big deal at least in Serbia ,we are also very monogamous, long relationship almost everyone has them
I think I need to move more East ... Here in Czechia I think it took longer here, but now? Its like in the west. Navigating current dating market is a nightmare. Unless you got your partner 10yrs ago you are out of luck. People having rosters, situationships, friends with benefits. Wonder why STD cases are on the rise... I am not religious... But still, where have the morals and self respect gone? Nobody thinking about long term relationships nowadays and when they hit 30-35 they are just starting to get serious, but they cant because they already shot their brains and cant stop going after the next new thing.
honestly, I believe waiting until both partners are committed and there is genuine trust is the best way to start a healthy relationship in all of its facets. People sleep around way too easily and it numbs them, sex is intimate, so do it with someone youre intimate with emotionally

I've toured South Korea by bicycle several times, and the Love Motel is ubiquitous. On weekends, it is not uncommon in regular hotels to see young couples checking in to spend the weekend together. I can't imagine that there is no fucking involved.
Because they're "boyfriend and girlfriend" so it's seen as tolerable.

It's definitely not conservative with young people anymore. That's why there are so many love motels.
No. It's still not much different for the young generation in korea.
The a big reason for all the love hotels is that many young adults still live at home with family, not only that but the walls don’t do much soundproofing
Sir love motels are mostly used by married people and cheating in relationships not for young people only
For some young people, not most.

So many Christian Americans suddenly became specialists for Korean dating culture in comments here :D :D :D
I knew I wasn’t the only one thinking the same thing. Lol
😂😂.
For real ?
3 to 5 dates only ?
I thought they meant months of dating ( with many many dates).
It explains so much.
Thank you
It doesn't mean you give up the goods the minute you become a couple. It means you don't give up goods BEFORE a commitment. Western women take note.

Now physical intimacy with a relationship becomes traditional and conservative? 😅 oh god what kind of era we are live in 😢
Yes 💔💔
Yup, it should be be4 marriage
@@snowycoldcool4115 I don't know who hurt you but I'm so sorry that you have such a sad and negative opinion about romance.

This should be the norm across the world. The reason the world has gone to shyt is the lack of morals.
That sounds like some decent values! I wish people over here in the west would AT LEAST start dating before engaging in sexual activity.
Excellent to hear some societies still have a modicum of decency!!! Bravo!!!
Maybe things have changed, but when I was in college, in the realm of Asian girls, Korean girls were the easiest to get in the sack. Chinese girls were in the middle, and Japanese girls were damn near impossible.
Maybe being an international student loosens them up some.

Miryang 44 case.

It's more like, "Let's enjoy the perks of being a couple without any of the responsibility or commitment."
These two are seriously different in what they're all about. 'Some' is about potential, while situationships are about keeping things vague and commitment-free while still getting the benefits of a relationship.
THAT SHOULD BE THE CASE EVERYWHERE.

These two are so good looking and I love their sense of fashion too.

Yes.
And just worldwide. It's down to personal preference.
In my country, sex is shunned before marriage and we as a young generation also have same priority. Sex and intimacy is sacred to us.
I feel like it’s not such a bad thing at all, as long as everyone is free to choose this, it avoids confusions, miscommunication, feeling led on etc
God forbid getting to know someone before engaging in an act that can create a child. Think people.
