To preserve your cutting tools you should always place a piece of scrap leather under the one you're punching. This goes for even when you're not using the press. I went through a lot of punches before I learned that tip on another youtube video.

Hi. do you think it's feasable to flatten a bit of 6mm silver ingot? I'm thinking of getting one as to not hammer the metal before setting it in a rolling mill. but I'm not sure that this can do that
I just bought a 1 ton press to help with metal stamping for jewelry, but I'm not sure how to go about mounting it. My work spaces are Ikea desks unfortunately, but I was thinking I could use a wood tree stump.
A sturdy bench or table are best but anything is better than nothing. :) If you mount it to a heavy piece of Plywood then clamp to your table when needed may be an option. Cheers.
@@gillianharris9534 Look at carriage bolts. Up through the ply , with the threaded portion above. So that the nuts or wing nuts can secure the press.... Good luck!
What is the dimension of the hole at the bottom of the rack before it was drilled? I was planning a standard punch out of the box to use this in driving out pressed-fit pins.

The idea to make the press a pseudo ratcheting press is top notch!
Never really had a use for an arbor press . I think you enlighten me on the possibility of different tooling to use.

Thanks! I used 1018 cold rolled. It is 5/8 inch. I keep a bunch of 1018 in different dimesnions in my shop. It is cheap and also welds easy. Cheers.

I welded a half inch drive socket on the end of my spline gear and use a ratchet. when I dont want the ratchet I attach a breaker bar.

Pretty awesome but most people don't have the tooling to make those custom pieces. Might be cool to make and sell kits.
That's what you should do. Get a lathe or find someone with a lathe and make kits.
