  • Paul McCartney chats to Ronnie Wood about the first record he ever bought - 'Be-Bop-A-Lula' by Gene Vincent and his Blue Caps, which featured in the film, 'The Girl Can't Help It'. He also talks about when he met Gene Vincent in Hamburg.

Paul tapping in time with his right foot. Keeping time in his head(to whatever he's hearing in his head), and chatting with Ronnie. I love listening and watching, music legends talk about their influences. Especially if you grew up playing music and taking classes from a young age. There's a whole different perspective on your admiration to those who wrote, played and produced their own. And if you were fortunate enough to hear and play the records of your parents, not only of these gents, but those that were influences of them as well

You know for some reason I never accepted him as an official stone; for one reason I saw them live in 65 and later with Mick Taylor, but Wood is a music freak especially in regards to true RnB, not just the pop Motown 60s black material. It seems he has a true passion for the obscure masterpieces that never made the charts or LP. I mean 45s so rare fewer than 10 are known to exist, out of perhaps 200 pressed on a one release label.
Case in point: "A Letter a Day" by The Trent Sisters. Oh, Ronnie Wood played great bass for Jeff Beck's band. His visual arts I could do without, not that I can afford any.

The amazing thing is how the Beatles in Hamburg met and played on the same bills as Gene Vincent and Little Richard and then toured with Roy Orbison all before they came to America - they got to meet many of their heroes - and they have never looked happier then when they posed for a photo with Little Richard!

I played bass for a blue cap when I was a teenager... and I knew who he was and I loved what he did, and what Gene Vincent did, because of the Beatles introducing me. John’s version was fantastic... paul’s Gene Vincent covers are superb.

The only similar story I've heard is the Beatles meeting Jerry Lee, and John Lennon bowing down and kissing Jerry Lee's shoes. Jerry Lee saying "watch what you do to my boots boy!".
