Right at around 8:50 min, Mark tells us a critical point concerning field definitions! "...fixing the image height is not what you want in tolerancing..." Exactly! This is not always obvious to novice designers. In fact, this video contains all of the very necessary non-obvious steps one needs to take prior to analyzing any lens, let alone designing. Key takeaway message here for everyone is to keep figuring out ways to set up an optical system that represents closely what's happening in real life. Kudos, Mark!

Thanks Ronian! We added the Design Lockdown Tool specifically because an experienced customer fell into this trap. There's a subtle logic error in assuming that because the various definitions are equivalent, they are the same. They are not, once you have aberrations and perturbations in the design. Keep your design as close to physical reality as you can.

Your video is like an oasis. I hope you make LED light collimator design video with sequential mode! Thanks.

Your explanation is fantastic which helped me rectify my mistakes. Can you guide us in your next video about the optical design of the microscope in which the object is placed very close to the objective?

      Hi Krishnendu,
      Check the Help Files under
The Setup Tab > System Group (the Setup Tab) > System Explorer > Aperture (System Explorer) > Apodization Type
This is the recommended apodization when the source object is close to the entrance pupil. Other than that, just use the Optimization Wizard etc as normal.

Hi, I am new to Zemax, I just got a job ( first after my PhD) as an optical engineer working with microscope designs. Question: (1) what fits better to my new profession Zemax or Zemax OpticStudio or maybe there are the same; (2) which tutorials I should watch at the beginning - any suggestions? thanks

    Hi sir,
Can you please share all the slides provided in summary part of the video, it will help us to practice in real life and follow your notes step by step.
    Thanks !!

Can you do an episode on the designing a lens to target bokeh, history, how to quantify, bokeh of different lens types, eg petzval vs double gauss, #iris blades, effects of the delta of meridional vs saggital mtf , etc,
