    I wish I had these videos when I was young and riding all the time! Of course, this just motivates me to get back on a bike. If Mat Hoffman and DMC can still ride vert on their way to senior citizen discounts, I sure can get back to steamrollers on flat before I'm 40. Thanks!

      I'm in my mid forties and learning everything again. It's both fun and frustrating! Get a modern frame and ride on.

      @@ericcando2903 Thank you! Bike design isn't as fun these days, but the overall quality seems great ... It would be fun to buy a true throwback, but the geometry on those could be so wonky ... And if bikes were as light as they are now when I was a teen, I'd have been flying. ha ha.

      @@JamieMPhoto Some of the classic frames from the old school have been reintroduced with modern geometry. The Haro Master immediately comes to mind. Colony released an updated version of the Ozone frame about a year or so ago. Hell, even Eddie Fiola released a frameset under his company called the Proformer a fee years back. And Hoffman is releasing a nee Big Daddy frame also. So there are choices out there.

      That's awesome that you're motivated Jamie! Definitely get back to it, you're only as old as you feel. And when you stay active and do what you love, you will feel 16 again! And absolutely, just look at John Yull, James White, or Dave Nourie, still killing it at a pro level no matter their age!
      All it takes is for you to pick up a bike and start💯 and in todays times the resources are limitless, so no matter what trick or style you want to work on, you can surely find something about it, or an example of it online. Also feel free to message me if you need any help with tricks or nutrition or whatever :)
      I think bikes and the geometries involved are pretty solid nowadays, very similar to street setups too, so you can throw anything at them and they will hold up well. Like Eric said, just get a modern frame and ride on!

    Hi Mik! Thanks to your videos, I can now steamroller and hang 5! I'm now trying to link them together. But I'm really struggling to get the frame to half lash into the steamroller when I'm in the hang 5 because I can't kick the frame with my foot. What's the secret? Any tips and advice would be much appreciated. Cheers!

      Oh man that's amazing! Great work 👊 So I don't think there is a secret, it's just practice. Use your inner thigh to ''push'' your frame like you would for a regular steam with your foot, and keep the bars stable with your upper body centered over the front axle to keep your centre of gravity, when the frame gets around 1/3rd of the way around you can let go of one hand and grab the seat and bring it the rest of the way around. I hope tha helps! Let me know if you have any more questions

    Good explanation bro!!
    Im starting to practise some basic tricks and i have a question. My side to spin its to the left and i do my peg wheelies and circles with my right foot on the pegs and the left for balacing. BUT when i do the "forkglide", i feel more confidence to do it with the left foot on peg and the right for balancing, and i spin to the right and i already can grab the seat and go around and around the time i want.
    I'm trying to do the same supposedly to my side with my stronger foot(the right) as i do the circles and wheelie peg but, i can´t.
    it looks like at my "beginner level" for some tricks
    I'm more confident to use the right foot and for others the left. It's normal?
    Thank you for the videos!! ;)

    • @mikooooooooooooo
      @mikooooooooooooo  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank you bro!!! And good question!
      So I think I have been in this situation before. When I was starting I didn't know what direction to go or that you should go in the same rotation with all tricks, so I learned how to roll steamrollers and hitchhikers in the opposite direction first (anti-clockwise). But then when I realised that it would be difficult to combo those I had to re-learn them clockwise.
      One of my friends has also learned some tricks clockwise and others anti-clockwise, and sometimes struggles to link them together (but also kills it because he has to think of original ways of doing so!)
      I think you should try spinning both directions, and figure out which way is truly your natural. I don't know if it has any meaning but I spin 180's and 360's to the right, and spin to the right in flatland, also I ride left foot forward.
      So anyways, thats just to give you an idea and some perspective, you're not the only one. So to me it sounds like if you are comfortable doing peg wheelies and circles anti clockwise, then that is natural for you, and you should try to learn all your tricks that way so that you don't create a bad habit and then have to re-learn them down the line. It might be harder with some tricks, but it will be better in the long run. As for the forkglide, because it is not a difficult trick just get used to using your regular footing, and your brain will eventually feel comfortable with it. And then when you get better you can think about doing things switch and opposite footed :D

    Mik! i have a problem, i spin anti clockwise (left), i do have the right foot on the peg but i have the right hand on the seat and left hand on the bars... the Question is.. do you think i need to "relearn" the steamroller ? x'D

    • @mikooooooooooooo
      @mikooooooooooooo  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yo Viktor! So by the sounds of it you're in a spinning steamroller position right? in that case no you don't, but it would help to learn it regular handed as well if you want to learn hitchhikers and such in the future

      @ropearoni4 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think he might mean one footed on the back peg to keep the bike moving without needing to pedal.

    • @mikooooooooooooo
      @mikooooooooooooo  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ropearoni4 yes actually you are right! He couldve just left out the word Peg. In which case, you should use your leg in a similar manner to pumping a spinning steamroller, so out and in, while at the same time slightly moving your bars (and as a result your bike) side to side, but only enough to do little carves that will build you speed.
      If you are spinning then it is exactly the same pumping principle as a time machine, hold tight in the position, and move your leg out and in when you feel it is the right moment (timing is important). And that will bring more momentum into the spin. I hope that helps! It's a tough technique to put into words! I will make a video on it soon 🤜🏻🤛🏻

      In still running a haro blamo from 1998, could you do a video on the best specs for a good flatland bike, air pressure, rims, head tube angle, bars, tires, etc. I need to upgrade but I'm lost. The last upgrade was for a free coaster and they gave me a tiny sprocket in the hub not knowing I didn't have a small one in the front, thus, it takes a lot of effort to get going, but I'll beat you in the long race - which is not the purpose of a flat land bike ;) thanks for the vids. I wish kevin and lung would've done a how-to after every Dorkin vid on each new trick they did.

      Scott Nelson there is noting really to flatland man, just do what feels most comfortable to you, go for smaller offset forks, freecoaster, I like a smaller sprocket, higher riser forks or stem or bars, maybe a higher seat post , frame don’t matter unless you want weight reduction and even that it wouldn’t matter bc everyone runs four legs and maybe two brakes and pump your tires up to whatever feels comfortable smaller psi pressure has it’s pros and cons such as high pressure, go out there and ride.

      Yup its a beginner trick indeed including most of the variations. Keep practicing, flatland is all about putting in the work and time, you need to have patience with yourself and your progress. I also replied to your other comment with more info on this trick
