    Seriously. How do ya'll write this much in a day? The most I've ever written in a day is 2500 and that took me ALL DAY.
    I average 1000 words on my normal working day but I'm always exhausted afterwards!

      @@TheHexedLibrary I wrote about 75,000 words (29 chapters) in about three weeks. I still can't believe I wrote that much that quickly (I started it in about mid-May and finished it in early June). It's a sequel to "Good Omens: Lockdown" and I posted it at Archive of Our Own. I won't say it's consistently good, but I haven't gone back to edit it yet, so I still consider it a rough draft. But you're welcome to read it there, if you're interested. Maybe with enough encouragement from people who read it I'll go back someday and start editing it.
      Btw, I haven't written that much that quickly since then. I think about 4000 words (not edited) in one day is my best (my fastest typing speed is around 120 wpm, not counting slowing down to fix typos as I go along).

    • @kirathompson3653
      @kirathompson3653 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Im curious as to how much you have to edit then, because it seems that there would be more purpose behind your words, also are you a plotter or a panser. (Im a faster writer, plotter, but its a big mess when I'm done with it)

    • @philipclayberg4928
      @philipclayberg4928 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kirathompson3653 (Sorry for a very long paragraph below)
      Depends. I am primarily an improvisor (or what you called a "pantser"). Not just poems and stories, but also on piano. When it's playing music, I don't edit (I can't because, either it's live and no recording; or I'm recording onto audio cassette. I've tried playing music and recording it using computer software, but I'm not that good at it.). Either I keep it as is, or I dump it and try something else. When it comes to poetry and prose: If I'm submitting to a website that runs weekly contests (like the Reedsy Blog website), then I definitely edit as much as I can (and stop editing when it doesn't seem like I can make the story any better and will only make it worse from then on). But when it's spur-of-the-moment stuff on TH-cam, I tend to just type it up on-to-spot and leave it as is. Offline, if it's just for me, I tend not to edit, because it's harder for me to edit something that I'm not sharing with anyone. I have an offline story that I'm not currently working on, because when I was it seemed like (after the first improvisational burst of creative writing) going back to work on it (editing, writing, rewriting, etc.) only seemed to make it worse. So I stopped working on it. I'm not sure if I'll go back to it again. It's not pleasant having written over 8000 or 9000 words of it (or maybe more) and still not feel like it's good enough to write more of it. It was supposed to be a sort-of-Dracula type story, taking place in America, Switzerland, and Romania. But it kept bumping into a plot that was more like a Robert Ludlum story. And got more and more messy, plot-wise. So I stopped working on it. Not sure if it's anything I can save. Something that happens to all writers once in awhile. It happened to Terry Brooks when he was writing his second Shannara book. The editor, Lester del Rey, thought it was lousy (and went so far as to note every place in the manuscript where he thought it was poor). Brooks basically dumped the manuscript and wrote a brand-new story (Elfstones of Shannara) and that turned out to be one of his fans' favorite books. Something to be said for dumping a story that can't be saved and started with something new.

    10k in a day!!! That's amazing. I've never done it but that's what I've been aiming for since I read 2k to 10k by Rachel Aaron earlier this summer. So far my record is 5.5k. 10k, one day you will be mine.

    3:20 Oh my gosh that's the exact way of outlining that I have found works best for me ! Been working on a novel for so long and started all over halfway because it wasn't working the way it should and... I was bored ! I had already planned it all and knew what was going to happen, there was no excitement anymore as what was to come next. Now I only plan three or four chapters ahead and it is so much better 😁 unexpected things come up that I can weave in the story path even if initially it was not going in that direction :D
    Wow... I've written quite a lot here, well, just excited that this project is alive and exciting again 😅

    The WWWritathon was really fun and it got me through a lot of what I'd been putting off getting done so I was really happy with it. And I got through 8,000 words so I redeemed myself for the one time I tried to write 5K in a day and got nowhere so. Might need a few more of those days to finish some personal goals

    Your writing style is so much like mine in the idea inspiration is what pulls you in but its only through the writing do you beginning to see the depths of the characters and what happens later in the story of go they evolve. It why, although I try to outline, my outlines usually end up getting rewritten two of three times as I progress through the first draft, because I then actually can see where the story is going.

    Congrats on the 10K. I participated fully in the #worldwidewriteathon, but I didn't spend the whole time writing. I edited a video. I beta read for someone and wrote about 4000 words on my current thriller, the one I started in Camp NaNo in July. I also had to keep rebooting my computer as I have very little memory left and it is slow to stop. Two speeds. It is old and I need a new one, but don't have the money right now so struggle with it I must.

    Internet and apps 'broke' traditional journaling. Started with blog and webcam. People 'journal' online now, on Instagram and co. Or when they do pick up pen and paper... well, you can check 'journaling' video online or pictures on Instagram. The 'old way' lost its appeal because it's not what new gen do. The more private it gets are chats on whatsapp at this point, otherwise it's all public. 😬
