Which direction is the glare polarized??

Usually, unpolarized light is polarized in the plane of the surface it's reflects from. So, light from a lake, table, floor, road, etc is polarized horizontally.

Correct. That's why your polarized sunglasses block horizontally polarized light. Allows you to cut through the glare.
      Cheers.
