Last Day!!! I always say that being stubborn might be my best hunting/fishing attribute. It has payed off many times. Congratulations on the successful hunt. Enjoy your videos.
This guy has THE BEST trad vision the net. Better than any writer for F&S ,OL and all the rest of the mags. He'll go down as one of the greats like Bear,Hill and the rest. Awesome work!!
beautiful doe, well done Sir. My days of stalk hunting are over, too old, bad foot and blind in one eye LOL. Also being forced to shoot 45 lbs now, so a lot of adjustments. love stick bows, all kinds and love briadheads that I can resharpen with a file. it ain't over until it is over, usually it would be when I just gave up and started back to the truck that I realized that I just blew my chance so I hunt all the way back to the truck as well. Got rid of all my bows except one recurve because they were too strong for me now, it is what it is. Always wanted to make my own bow but never had the time or place. Keep it up, the simple stick bow is pure fun.
I love snowshoe hunting, with new snow and temperatures above freezing you practically have to kick them out of their beds. Have not shot one with a bow yet but I am hoping to this season. I love your videos, keep them coming. Greetings from Finland!
im not a hunter and im not a fan of hunting and killing but i do enjoy watching others do it i just cant wrap my head around doing it myself. in saying that i love the way you have so much respect in what you are doing. im a big fan of yours mr clay hayes. i come from a city background in australia and this just isnt what we do here but i appreciate what you are doing and im not one of the karens that preach about killing animals and hunting for sport.
There really isn’t many hunters that hunt just for the “trophy” part but people assume it every time we harvest a mature or large animal. It’s kinda sad
Glad to see you get one with the recurve that’s awesome! I also love that you really needed the meat. I don’t shoot traditional archery but I’m looking to get into it. I let a lot of small bucks walk and Does walk until December to maximize my chances of killing a mature buck. I think traditional stick and string would bring back the excitment. Also you should look into a tree saddle for when your stalking and you find a spot like the one you had where you needed to get in a tree.
Clay, I just noticed 47 Couch Potatoes watched part of this vid. I bet that I could easily stalk a Couch Potatoe, they wouldn't hear me coming over the crunch of their snacks.
It is not over until you stop.. Congratulations on a successful hunt.. Good to see how much you appreciate your game & how much it means to your family. I have always been a meat hunter & try to use everything of the animals I take. Looking forward to more videos. Take Care & be safe & Merry Christmas
You’ll never know till you go. I’ve watched many guys burn out after a short time and not want to go out you got to stick with it plus it helps to love it .
Congratz on your Hunt!! I must say, You have one of the Best Looking Bow's I have Seen in a Long time. Esp. the Curves. Most of the other Bows I have seen are Mostly, "Cookie Cutter", a style like Most Houses in a neighborhood all the Same Shape & Size.
Hey man. Just the video I wanted to see on TH-cam with my morning coffee. Great hunt amigo, congratulations and thanks for the Christmas present. Looking forwards to the stuff from FL.
Great job Clay. Another great hunt from you as always. I didn't get to spend but one day in the woods up here myself but no deer. Good luck on the hog hunting this year
It was fun seeing those 4-6 others scattering when you made that last shot. Good hunting, nice deer, feed the family. You and the family have a Happy New Year! Looking forward to more of your videos.
What a day. Look in my stocking and a 3 disc DVD set on building selfbows is in it. Open you tube and a last day hunt is waiting to view.🏕😁. Looking forward to the Florida clips. Merry Christmas.
Im Just a total newbee, but: how do you find the animal again after you Hit it with the Arrow? Is the a GPS in the Arrow? Or is there Always the risk to lose the Prey?
Animals leave sign wherever they go. Might be tracks, scat, etc. or in the case of a wounded animal, blood as well. Being able to see and interpret subtle sign takes years of practice but a skilled tracker can follow this. With that said, a well placed arrow will bring down big game with seconds. This deer went less than 50 yards.
Just subscribed, drawn by your vid seen on Leatherwall of Fen and his hog. You're teaching him right and the boy is clearly a natural. How does a lean old dog like me get a chance for your trad hunt camp? I don't do Instagram. Thanks
Hey Nicholas, the trad camp hunt giveaway is a way to say thanks to the folks that help support these vids by signing up at www.patreon.com/clayhayes . Thanks much
Something about the last hours of the season. Had a chance at the biggest buck I'd ever seen on the second last day of the season, but he unfortunately ducked my string (going to switch away from gap shooting next season). Still a wonderful opportunity.
Hi Clay! Congratulations on your, literally, last minute deer! I didn't see your link for the DVD. Would you let me know what it is? Thank you, for this and all of your other videos. Best Wishes fo Florida Hog Hunts and Merry Christmas to you and your family!
Take that rabbit....I know its not a rabbit...but still fitting...congrats on both trophies. I can appreciate that last day success. There are those who do not know the simplistic challenge and benefit of traditional archery...I love it. Keep on doing it. I will have to get this instagram that you speak of, I would love a spot on that hunt (-:
There's nothing like the last hour of the last day to heighten your senses. Well done.
Traditional archery guys enjoy the process more than results. Closing the deal is when preparation meets opportunity. Loved it.
Thanks mike

Thanks Leo, hunting is very much a part of who we are. It is much more than an activity. It’s a way of life.
There really isn’t many hunters that hunt just for the “trophy” part but people assume it every time we harvest a mature or large animal. It’s kinda sad
Congratulations! May the forest provide as long as you are willing to take up the challenge!

Yes, it's cool hunting snowshoe hare when they are white and the ground is brown.
Congratulations!
Awesome rabbit and a deer . Can't wait for hog hunting tips. We have some decent hogs not far from my house here in Louisiana.

I have a set of yew wood staves from 1957 that Glenn St Charles gave me 35 yrs ago.
Those are special!
Rabbit: "Hey! Who the heck is that guy?" WHACK!
Dude..... I need the details on how to get in on the trad camp. My Filson Mackinaw is ready. Lol
that rabbit is by no means a savage hunter😂😂
Cool vedeo
Amazing timing! What do you do with the hide after?
nice video.
Last day of the season. Good stuff. You should come for a hunt in New Zealand, the season is 365 days a year.
Some day!

That bow is a year older than me. What kind of difference does it make if it's anything past about a year?
Doesn’t make much difference so long as the wood is good and dry.
Dude, have you heard of St. Vincent island in Florida? So cool there. just found your vids, awesome.
Absolutely. I’ve been wanting to put in for a sambar hunt.
@@clayhayeshunter Awesome, hope you get in on it. When I was there 2 bulls had a fight 30 yards from camp, the inferior one was killed.
Wild!
Well done sir
Can you do more hunts like this? Even if it’s with a laser pointer. I learn a lot!
Me to i never had any one to show me how to hunt
nice work
I just made a long bow about 50 pounds, and I don't think I can kill a deer, but I might try good job
I really like your bow and what it means to you.
Something about the last hours of the season. Had a chance at the biggest buck I'd ever seen on the second last day of the season, but he unfortunately ducked my string (going to switch away from gap shooting next season). Still a wonderful opportunity.
Absolutely. It’s amazing just to get close to big deer like that.
What's poundage of your bow
YOU SHOT BAMBI'S MOM! ;-) Good shot.
Hi Clay! Congratulations on your, literally, last minute deer! I didn't see your link for the DVD. Would you let me know what it is? Thank you, for this and all of your other videos. Best Wishes fo Florida Hog Hunts and Merry Christmas to you and your family!
Here it is. www.twistedstave.com/shop/master-bowyer-dvd-3-disk-set/
Great video! What's the typical total arrow weight you usually shoot for deer? I just got into bow hunting this year (compound).
Mine are usually a little over 600 grains. I shoot the same arrows for everything.
@@clayhayeshunter awesome, thanks!
Is that the take down bow? Is that why the handle is darker?
No, that’s a piece I laminated to the belly side because it was a small stave.
May I ask what state you hunt?

I love your videos man, we need to go on a hunt sometime we hunt the exact same areas !!
Hey Clay... I am a bowyer down here in FL. What part of Florida are you gonna be in??
Near Pensacola
OK... I am in Palm Bay... Pretty far away... Enjoy your hunt..
oi Clay , que madeira voce usa pra confeccionas seus poderosos arcos ?desde ja agradesso.
I've been there , but missed a slammer . You have to make the move sometimes.
I spotted that bjj sticker, do you still train?
What state are you hunting in?
Unbelievable!
