I’ve heard Tudor swaps movements too but they don’t “throw them away” as you suggest. They service the incoming movements and put them in other watches in for service. This is more efficient as they don’t have to service watches one at a time and have more of an assembly line process. While it may make business sense. It’s a dealbreaker for me though as a collector.
I recently purchased perhaps the most disliked Tudor watch in existence. The Blackbay P01. It is my favorite watch these days. It has a very industrial look that makes it super unique. I love the locking 24 hour bezel. And undernearh all that it has a very blackbay dial with the in house caliber powering the watch. While I am a fan of inhouse movements, my Tudor 1926 has a selita SW200 that keeps excellent time. Still, as sports watches go, the P01 is awesome and a great choice for someone wanting something a bit unusual.
You have wonderful insight Max and for those who appreciate nuance, you bring such great content. I am also slender wristed...about 6.7 inch or so and tallish. Because I own a few watches in the SKX size including a Seiko Tuna 300m which wears small in spite of being 45mm in dia., , I see no issue with the 41mm chassis although guys like us are favorited by lower CG to the wrist you mention due to our lower wrist surface area/watch back interface as a larger, higher mass watch head will tend to move around on a narrower wrist as we know. Your Jubilee bracelet reference juxtaposed the wrist presence of the new 41 is brilliant....oyster does meld best with this watch...and Jubilee really works with a plainer watch you show to give it more pop. Kudos to Tudor reducing the here-to-fore slab sidedness of the previous iteration I personally couldn't live with...too much for narrow wrist and this new offering is much better. Congrats on the new piece. Tudor is a strong contender in the premium watch space for sure.
It's a cool looking watch. It is pretty which is why i went with the dive strap. It's extremely comfortable & gives it a much needed dressing down. It is a tool watch after all.
In regards to your gripe…just grab the clasp lock from the sides to pull it open instead of sliding your nail under the shield. The ceramic detent balls that hold it shut are just the right tension to allow it to be open from the sides and it’s far more pleasurable to use that way. 👍
If they made this a 40mm or smaller, I'd be interested. The red insert combined with that jubilee bracelet is nothing short of gorgeous. And the new master chronometer movement is the icing on the cake.
I'm not sure when the " I wish all men's watches were sized like my dear nana's watches back in the 1930s " but damn let's get passed this oddity in time. These are dive tool watches.
Watched this and 2 weeks later I just got a used 2nd gen Burgundy yesterday. My first Tudor🥳 Thank you for your shots with shirts and sleeves, showed me that red watch is not out of place to a casual outfit. That really helped. The new one is better but the gap in price to the used one is pretty big in my country. And back then Tudor gave bracelet buyer a free red nato strap, pretty happy with my purchase.
@@grapevinelover1 I love the watch, all thing work smooth. but I can't lie that the gen 2 is heavy, it is the heaviest in my collection right now. The slimmed down gen 3 is a necessary upgrade. If the price gap is not to far in your country I reccomend to get the new gen 3, or even get the blackbay58 but there's no red 58. if you want a red blackbay on budget get a gen 2 like me🤣.
I'm only focused and waiting on 2 things from Tudor. 1) like u, a blue p39. Done deal when that happens. 2) Pepsi GMT opaline dial in slimmer case (similar to the new current 41 burgundy)on jubilee with t-fit. I don't find it in 41mm. But, would certainly opt for it in 39mm if they will make it in that size.
I think people who parade Tudor (I am one of them) should stop with the “Tudor is the Rolex of back in the day”. Rolex shouldn’t be mentioned in these Tudor reviews when reviewing models. No one will bag a Tudor when/if they can walk in and buy a Rolex, so let’s appreciate the shield for what they are! A great watch maker.
Thank you Max another great review. I am with you regarding the ultimate Tudor. I am colour blind and have trouble seeing Gilt, my preference would be either silver edged hands and and silver edged rectangular indices or all white hands and indices on a Matt Blue faced 39mm or 37 mm diver with Matt Blue bezel. Hope you are listening Tudor
Great review, I agree with you on the bracelet and got the BB41 burgundy on the 3 link yesterday. As an owner of a ranger 39, these wear pretty similar contrary to what the 41 might make you think. My wrist is 6.7” and this fits great. It’s a much nicer watch in person outside of the fluorescent lighting at the AD.
Great video. Like you, love the BB Burgundy on the oyster. I own the panda, and it’s my favorite non-dress watch. Only complaint is lack of on the fly adjustability.
I like the shield point on the clasp. It is so easy to grab without using your nail which is one of my gripes on some other watches. Can’t say I’ve ever stabbed myself.
not sure if this is applicable but this might help with the stabbings: On my bb58, I'm able to open the bracelet latch from the outside instead of pinching in the middle. It's kind of a pinch and slide motion from the sides, but it's pretty easy to do on my watch
I tried it this WE in Paris on the jubilee - and I confess it was stunning. I will definitly go for it :). It makes it maybe less professionnal oriented but much more fançy. Pretty cool for a Tudor!
Best review of this watch I’ve seen. Thanks and I agree on what you said about the bracelet, I wanted to go for the jubilee bracelet but you are right on what you said
Tudor, why is this burgundy 13.5 mm thick? As opposed to 11.9mm BB58 with the same 200m WR? Is the extra 1.6mm thickness worth the additional METAS certification or.. simply Tudor BBB is not "allowed" to surpass the big brother 41 Submariner's 12.5mm thinness?
They are almost there, and they keep inching closer. Ironically, they once held the framework for perfection in their hands. They need to release their Gen 1 Prototype Sub (featured in Hodinkee's Inside the Archives of Tudor). Essentially a Tudor Prince Sub, add a METAS movement to that, perhaps applied indices, and you're done. This is the modern tool watch everyone and their brother wants.
I really hope the Blackbay 41 moves more toward 70s design with that serrated bezel already one step in that direction. That would make a lot of sense with the current BB line up and be true to history because the sub that was commissioned to the Canadian military in the 70s had the exact same dial lay out as the Black Bays do
Great review… I totally agree with you on the jubilee bracelet. This watch is much better on the oyster. Overall I just find Tudor boring, so haven’t been able to get into the brand. The blackbay line has just been overdone in my opinion.
I am picking one up this weekend with the jubilee. I totally get your reason for the oyster but for me I wanted the jubilee for those events where I want it to pop. Other than that I may run a rubber or nato on it to keep the bracelet looking nice.
I own the BBGMT, the North Flag, the Chrono Reverse Panda and the Pro. All EXCELLENT watches. What I’d like to see is the retirement of aluminum bezels and ceramic on all. Oh.. and t-fit is a quantum leap too. But I still love their products. Amazing value all.
I agree Tudor is definitely on a roll, some great releases over the last few years. The BB41 burgundy bezel looks brilliant and now being a METAS certified watch is hugely tempting but I have my 41 diver slot already covered by a few that I'm in no hurry to move on. Of the Tudors that I have my favourite would be my LHD Pelagos with the amazing bracelet. It's one of the most comfortable that I have, it was also my first Tudor. A very close second is the Pelagos 39, OK it looses some of the depth rating of the LHD along with the date but it's such a great model tool watch for something less bulky. Some do not like the sunburst dial and bezel but that is what makes the watch community great is that we all have our own preferences as to what we want on the wrist. Thanks for sharing.
I bought two Tudor watches in the past year. Very satisfied but the reason is that I could not get any Rolex that I wanted. The Tudors look great and were cheaper. Inability to buy A ROLEX from an AD is a significant issue b
Congrats on the new pickup Max! Really enjoyed your deep dive into the watch and great shots of it on the wrist! As always, if you ever want to check out a similar case shape/design but in a 38mm size, let me know! Hope all is well with you and yours! All the best, Ben
I also think it's the best looking Tudor. I picked up the jubilee last week, love it. Probably would have also gone with the oyster if I didn't already have a Sub, I wanted something different.
7:15 Wow that really really is the dream Tudor. Make that 40mm/20mm, with T-fit and include 2 half-links, and it will be the hottest thing ever. The only change I'd make is to have metal surrounds to the lume plots so they catch the light like a standard applied index. I would want stainless steel. Titanium doesn't have enough heft.
I have the ETA and love it. I purchased it used just before they released the 3rd Gen. I had decided I wanted it over 2nd Gen for various reasons. I do wonder if the 3rd was out, which I would have chosen? 🤔 I would be happy with either for different reasons. I love that you went over all this in the video, thank you.
What do you think about the Black Bay 58 with the jubilee bracelet? I have one black dial with golden hands and NATO strap but thinking about buying a bracelet. I love jubilee bracelets but my fear is that the look will be "too much" in this case instead of the oyster.
Are you a product of your times or...? While traveling I obtained this watch just 4 days ago and then came home to this. I shopped a whole store of Tudors (and visited several dead ones - H VII, ER I; etc.). My wife liked the Ranger but I sold her on the Burgundy. Agree with all you said but I don't mind clasp/shield deal as much as you do.
Beautiful watch. I almost pulled the trigger but decided to hold off to see if they Tudor released a blue version on jubilee. I like your thoughts on the Pelagos. I'm not a fan of their current blue...I'm in on either model if they switch to the blue you mentioned.
Absolutely love my pro. And I've been saying the same thing about tudor doing today what rolex used to be -- no-nonsense hight quality tool watches within a more affordable price range. Id love to see them also drop a Pelly GMT. Not a diver gmt, but a gnt with square indices.
I’m still waiting for an OG BB36 and new Ranger mash up to be my perfect Tudor. Basically a true Explorer alternative from the brand. Dial layout of the Ranger, glossy black dial with raised white indices of the BB36 and the T-Fit clasp. Bring it in 36mm and I’d be first in line.
There is subtle update from initial release smiley to today's BB41 had missed from your review is the coin bezel edge. smiley got more of a true coin edge but new version got more of the bite, made grip easier but at the same changed the look subtlely. Personally smiley initial release details is still one of the kind for black bay series worth collectors to give another look while they still can. only update can really top smiley is to expend the color way on the BB54. Along with blue too.
@@michaelriera6277 different taste for different folks. Some prob prefer shield logo and line txt at 6 similar to modern sub. It’s a ll good. But for folks who are looking for smiley grab while you still can cuz how often ppl still can get 1st edition of anything in current era from popular brands? Although smiley isn’t the first but it was the first relaunch diver that lift the Tudor brand. Then 90s first edition of Tritium SMP, first edition of PO can still be obtained. Not many and these watches will all slowly become hard find pieces.
The old Burgundy color was better than this new Cardinal shade. Plus, a round seconds hand seems way out of place. I really enjoy the previous generation’s handset.
Great pick up Max! I think the watch looks great and am hoping they give the same treatment to the BB GMT. I’ve been wondering for a while now if they might do so and give us a Diet Coke edition, though I enjoy the Diet Pepsi look a lot. Any idea for the servicing… when the time comes, I wonder if you can specifically request they keep the movement in your watch and allow them to take longer to service instead of doing a swap?
I commented in a WC post with Per aka @YourIntruder (BTW he posted some awesome meet up pics this weekend!) a blue dial Pelegos 39mm would be sick! Per said he's been waiting on this watch as well. Honestly, I was a little sad it wasn't announced this year. I'm a date function guy who can take or leave the cyclops bubble. A 39mm Pelagos blue dial in deathless or date option BOOM! I'd stop huting for the perfect Titanium diver

I see, good call 👍 pinning this for others to see!
what do you mean by "dealbreaker"? that you won't send your Tudor in to them for service, or you won't buy a Tudor?
You know you can send your Tudor to be serviced by any qualified watchmaker. These are pretty simple movements to work on and very well made/designed.
@@derosa1989 I won’t buy a watch with an n house Tudor movement.
@@michaelriera6277 Tudor won’t sell parts to an independent watchmaker so inevitably it will have to go back to Tudor at some point.

Let's face it, dive watches function primarily as jewellery these days so they may as well be pretty. Given that, the dimensions could be smaller.
They function as egg timers as well. A really nice egg timer
Agreed. Though I think there’s a place for both. I wear my pretty ones to the bar and office, bangers to the pool and beach.
All watches function as jewelry, do I still stand by my point 😉
I often find myself lost in the forest and use the bezel as a compass to bring me back home.
They sell Black Bays in 41mm, 39mm, 38mm, 36mm, and 31mm. And contrary to fleeting fashion trends, good watches can be made larger 40mm

I prefer the Blu. ❤
When are they slimming down the Pepsi gmt and adding a T fit clasp?!!
When that comes out I will be tempted to part with money!!
Patience... 😉
Congratulations! Every single time I go to the Tudor dealer, I am ready to buy, then I see the hour hand, and I end leaving and not buying.
The old Burgundy color was better than this new Cardinal shade. Plus, a round seconds hand seems way out of place. I really enjoy the previous generation’s handset.
Has the color really changed?
*The almost perfect watch would be the BB54 in size 39, ceramic bezel, L916 steel, jubilee bracelet and transparent back*
Great pick up Max!
I doubt it, they probably have a process locked down for this!
Great review.
Can't afford a Tudor but bought it's homage, benyar burgundy waiting for it to arrive till then saving up for a real Tudor 😅
Not removing the stickers on a watch is like not removing the tags on a suit. Your thoughts?
That's because he'll just flip the watch after 6 months or so after wearing it less than a dozen times, lol
I like the fact it has no date. Too many watches need to go no date!
Agreed 💯
I commented in a WC post with Per aka @YourIntruder (BTW he posted some awesome meet up pics this weekend!) a blue dial Pelegos 39mm would be sick! Per said he's been waiting on this watch as well.
Honestly, I was a little sad it wasn't announced this year. I'm a date function guy who can take or leave the cyclops bubble. A 39mm Pelagos blue dial in deathless or date option BOOM! I'd stop huting for the perfect Titanium diver
You got that right!
Hey, may I ask what your wrist size is?
Nice, thank you sir.
Cheers 🍻
I have the first model burgundy eta model. 😀👍
Yeah pelagos 39 in blue with a MATTE dial please and a touch of patina like you said
One day i get this Watch.. work hard and it will happen 🙏🏽
U should've got it on the jubilee bracelet... It's 🔥
I got to say the burgundy on those BB is the only red watch really attractive. Could they make it in 58?
Nice pickup and review. I still think the BB58 in blue is the best for me.
That's a good one!
Agree. It’s perfect.
