‘Smart crooks’ finding a way to ‘rort’ the NDIS: Steve Price

  • Sky News host Steve Price says the NDIS has “become a money pit”.
    “When you set up something like the NDIS and stuff it full of money - smart crooks will find a way to rort it,” Mr Price said.
    “Thanks to reporting in the Nine papers today - dodgy NDIS providers taking clients to ATMs to take out cash to buy drugs like ice, heroin and cocaine.
    “So, we have a bloated pot of your money tipped into a scheme that is supposed to make life better for the disabled being rorted by corrupt providers and crooked clients … and poor old Bill Shorten is trying to fix it.”

      Yeah that’s what is odd because the disabled person must use Centrelink to get money and then most of the participants funds just gets used on any provider of there choosing and than support workers don’t want to spend a penny on there clients even though that they are getting pay over 60 a hour in hospital nurses complain that support workers get paid more than nurses because some clients are in hospital than the hospital refused to have them in the hospital because they are just going to stay quicker and run to there next client so the hospital only let the parents allowed in hospital/ emergency contacts

      @@Antony-ep9db ndis secretly gives all authority to the carer and the carer spits the money with the agencies. And carer gets money to punish the disabled person and to make life harder for them. This is secret of ndis and the policy of Ndis 100%.

    I've had an ndis grant since 2017. After 3 years of getting; cleaners who didn't clean or often even turn up, gardeners who wouldn't mow, or even turn up etc etc, however invariably sent invoices which were paid from my grant automatically, and WORSE, I stopped using ndis entirely!
    I even discovered had one provider had been paid over $300.00 per person, for a group lunch, which I did not, and would not have attended! NDIS has made my life worse, not better. It gives licence for the unscrupulous to take advantage of the vulnerable. I now pay for everything out of my disability pension. It's tough, but better than feeling MORE vulnerable, useless and ashamed than I already feel!

      I have no idea how anyone would justify the need for that much. The NDIA panel had to approve that before it could be spent. I rely on a wheelchair and can't get a ramp to my front door. It seems NDIS is for anyone except those with actual disabilities.

    • @Lillyboo65640
      @Lillyboo65640 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @Kylie-oz3ks exactly 💯.
      The people who really need some support are not getting it.
      Unfortunately some dodgy providers out there are instructing the non disabled how to rort the system.
      NDIS should be on a cashless card system so that everything is itemised.
      People who get NDIS need to remember that it is NOT their money - it is taxpayers money that must be accounted for & should be audited every year.

    • @Kylie-oz3ks
      @Kylie-oz3ks 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I honestly don't know how to go about it. I ended up going self managed for the couple of carers and garden maintenance I get as when NDIA managed it, they would pretty much just give the money to the provider. They would invoice for services not provided and get paid even though I reported the service as not provided. Now, I employ private companies who actually do the tasks I need done and don't add an NDIA fee as they know nothing about it. I pay the invoice and get reimbursement through the NDIA portal. I am too scared of getting caught to do anything wrong with the money. Unfortunately, not all people with disabilities are capable of managing services themselves. The definition of disability needs to be refined and maybe a cap on how much funds and for what purpose they can be received for. Unfortunately, the sharks always mess things up for the genuine person in need.

    The scenario you are referring to whete participants are withdrawing cash for drugs can only happen if the participants are self managed. This means they manage their own funding. The NDIS would then make them NDIS managed as they are misusing their funding.
    The fact is as per Disability Intermediaries Australia, that of the 343 NDIS claimed criminals EVERY ONE OF THEM WERE REGISTERED PROVIDERS WITH THE NDIS.
    Yet, Bills taking aim at unregistered providers as the problem. Not so. Bill needs to look at the reality. It's the larger registered providers using participants as cash cows. They overcharge the hours. Pad their invoices out and a lot of the time don't even provide the service.
    Meanwhile, back in reality land, I've had a participant who is confined to bed 24/7, paralysed from the waist down, waiting over 4 years for a wheelchair. This is who the NDIS should be supporting, but no, they want her prove she can't walk and ate disregarding the 30+ reports we've submitted from spinal specialists, OTs and physics. Disgraceful...

    As someone who has been receiving NDIS funding for many years now, I truly don’t understand how this is happening (so if someone can explain, please do!)
    How on earth are you able to draw your NDIS funds out of an ATM? Even fraudulently, how have people been doing this? I’m Plan Managed, so I’m not sure if that’s why I could never do that. Also using that much money to buy a brand new car WITH NDIS FUNDS?! The ONLY way I can see this happening would be if a special vehicle capable of carrying and securing a severely disabled participant and their mobility devices was required, in which case, people at the NDIA would have had to specifically approve that item after reviewing many reports from professionals such as occupational therapists stating why it was necessary for the client and why this vehicle in particular was the best value for money. As far as I’m aware, you can’t just go and buy a fancy new car you don’t need because it “looks nice” and successfully use your NDIS budget to pay for it. How does that even happen?
