If you think this scene was good you should see her in The Miracle Worker. Best Actress Oscar winner and hands down the most worthy performance ever to win that award!!
I love how she pretends to not know what's going on until she sees he finally gets it, then she looks at him with amusement and a sly smile and welcomes him to the game. That's my all time favorite part of the movie and my most favorite movie quote.
The plot turns here, and what a scene to mark the turn! Perfect. I've seen this scene many times since, but nothing can bring back the satisfaction of seeing it for the first time within the movie.
I wish Anne Brancroft was in more movies over the years. I always loved her in "To Be or Not To Be" with her husband, Mel Brooks. And of course, The Graduate, without a doubt.
Vikz I remember watching this scene when I was 13 and I told myself someday when I was an adult I was going to have a glass of single malt scotch just because she made it look so good. 🤣😂🤣😂
I watched this when I was a teenager and even then I thought wow she just stole the whole movie, made every actor in it look amateurish and she's only in it for this scene. a true professional , sorely missed
There should’ve been a crash of lightning in the background when she said “welcome to the game“, Best line of the whole movie. Chills and goosebumps moment.
I agree!!! I was creeped out and scared when she did that 😅. I would've loved to see her add some horror movies in her repertoire because after she said "welcome to the game," I was thinking how creepy she was, lol
"Did your wife ever tell ya she had a mother." You can tell right there, this woman knows her daughter, her schemes, and that she's already moved on to her next con. Anne Bancroft was amazing in this cameo!
I loved those lines: "You're drunk." "Oh yeah? Well you're stupid.....see I can say that to you now that you're my son-in-law." Absolute gold! And, "HOW COME I HAVE THE JACK OF CLUBS IN MY FUCKING POCKET??!!"
Single Malt Scotch. That is so classy, mister. Have I been talking to my shadow! Anne Bancroft should have won a Supporting Actress Oscar for this movie.
"O yeah, then how come I've got the jack of clubs in my FUCKIN POCKET!" (Throws card on the table) When I tell you I laughed so hard at that part the way she said it and the way she looked took me out 🤣🤣🤣 lmfao
The cameos in this film are very well placed, but watching the film the first time, for an early 90s film, pay close attention to the twists, or you may get confused. I was too young for this in my early teens, but a few years ago, I saw it through, and despite some weird content, I enjoyed it. What can I say, I like movies and tv shows that make viewers think?
For me, I felt like she was almost talking in code. It impressed a lot of people, but I still can't figure out what she was trying to say until Andy said it. She definitely doesn't spell anything out for you (not that I usually need that, but in this scene, it would have helped lol)

Thanks for posting this. Almost every time i say the word 'card', I say it with a Bostonian accent... explaining this to my daughter meant downloading the film just to show her this scene. If anyone else asks, I can send them this link. =D
This was probably the most important scene in the whole movie. It reveals not just the truth about who Tracy really was. But exactly how her psychopathology began to emerge. It wasn’t just her father who taught Tracy how to be a con artist. It was also the mother…too drunk too self absorbed to intervene. This tells me Tracy was a sociopath not a psychopath. Psychopaths are born. Sociopaths are made.
ANNE BANCROFT ABSOLUTELY SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN AN AWARD FOR THIS SCENE..SHE KNOCKED IT OUT OF THE PARK...SHE IS, ALONG WITH SIGOURNEY WEAVER AND MERYL STREEP OUR FINEST ACTORS .. JUST AMAZING WOMEN. I COULD WATCH THIS SCENE OVER AND OVER.

Wow! Thanks for posting this. I've just finished reading Rob Lowe"s "Stories I Only Tell My Friends", and he mentioned the movie Malice - went to imdb and read someone's comment on Anne Bancroft's performance - so here I am to check it out. I really want to watch this movie again (seen it just once, years ago). Now, who wrote this, again....?
If there was a 90s Spiderman film Anne Bancroft could of played Aunt May, River Phoenix could play Peter Parker/Spiderman, Marlon Brando could play Uncle Ben, Sam Elliot could play J. Jonah Jameson, Brad Dourif could play Norman Osborne/Green Goblin, Paul Walker could play Harry Osborne, Christy Swanson could play Mary-Jane, Josh Brolin could play Flash Thompson and Tim Curry could play Dr Connors/Lizard.
I see a lot of comments here where people are extremely impressed with Anne's character. I guess this scene goes way over my head because I've played this scene three times now and still don't understand how Andy figured out Anne was hinting that Tracy set Andy up.
Besides the stories she told about Tracy, it was when she said "Why do you give a Frenchman's fuck who she sleeps with? Get into the game, go for the 20 million yourself!".
Did you see the movie? Lynn I can't understand why you don't get this. It's totally obvious. Anne gave "Andy" a clear view of who Tracy was. She (Tracy) had bamboozled him (Andy) from day one.
@@Mftjan2000 No, it wasn't obvious to me. She is NOT easy to talk to in this scene. I understand she is a bitter angry woman because of what happened to her..
