TH-cam recommended this channel to me. Must have noticed my habit of watching Day9, Mono Black and CGB :) Nice Quality for someone just doing this on the side. I really like those fun decks. Played some of the Etrata Incarnation myself recently. I have to say that it is even more fun in the 4 color (non-red) Deck with mostly singleton creatures. The Incarnation let's one pick up the nice stuff like in a catalog. Still nothing I'd play on the ladder but there are so many fun cards to pick from that I always go back to the deck for some fun. Keep the nice content coming :)
Just found your channel through someone's recommendation on Reddit, love the content, very happy to subscribe. I'm f2p limited so always looking for ways to make standard more interesting and this seems great - been looking for a really fun jank deck ever since Revel in Riches rotated out and Simic Ascendancy just wasn't doing it for me. Only thing I'd ask for is for maybe a little more explanation of the thought process behind gameplay decisions, but I'm sure that's super hard to do live. Looking forward to more videos!
Welcome and thanks for the sub! Ixalan had a bunch of fun jank in it. One of my favorite decks at the time was the Blood Sun/Lotus Field combo. I've been considering playing Historic just to play that deck again. Also, thank you for your suggestion. I am always trying to get better at commenting in my videos!
@@AbsurdHeroine Your commenting is already quite good, very clear and focused on the game! I'm a relatively new player (started RNA) so it often really helps me to hear the pros and cons of two possible lines, like when you decide what to take from their hand. Basically every time you say 'I think we want' I'd love to hear a 'because' :)
@@AbsurdHeroine On the subject of combos I've been using a pretty jank aura deck that hasn't had that much success in historic but is a fun combo to play when it goes off. It involves self milling auras into the graveyard, bringing out some Valduk, Keeper of the Flame and/or Champion of Flame and then playing Storm Herald to bring all those auras back for a turn to finish off the opponent. I'm fairly satisfied with it and I'm glad that I've been able to make Storm Herald work somehow. (I understand this comment is a month late.)
This is a great video. Super Props for the Ajani card on screen when you mentioned him. That's a top quality thing the best content creators still don't do often enough. And on too of you managing to make Etrata work you get a sub from me. I had a yearish break from the game, but I can remember that I was always facinated by this card and tried to make all kinds of janky control decks to make it work and I was actually just thinking about this card today, so when I saw this video pop up in my recommendations I had to watch it and loved it! Great deck and great video!
Amazing deck (and super fun)! An awesome achievement that you made Etrata work in standard :) Two of my games today with your list ran for 20mins each and I won both with 1 health in a super tight back and forth. Some of my best mtga memories. I added a clear the mind to the deck in place of a rider because I found if they killed all the etratas then it's kinda game over, also helps me sustain more into the late game; I like but not sure if it's the best card to accomplish this. Thanks for the videos!
You just earned a subscriber! I've been trying a grixis shell since the assassin's release but have barley made some headway with it. Phenomenal brew! Looking forward to more of your content!
I love the Etrata jank, I've been trying to build a deck around her as well. One thing that you could consider is that you can actually return Etrata to your hand after the ability goes on the stack but before it resolves (you have to use full control otherwise the game will just auto advance past it). My version of this deck (because I don't have 4 copies of everything) uses Crashing Drawbridge to give Etrata haste, and then Portal of Sanctuary/Tyrant's scorn to pull Etrata back to my hand after attacking. After watching this I decided to try adding green, but instead of Enigmatic Incarnation (since I only have 1 copy of it), I'm using Neoform to sacrifice a murderous rider to get Etrata.
I played an Etrata deck with a heavy dimir control/discard build in M20 to mixed results using wishclaw. I love this card. By far my favorite card in standard. This deck is dumb fun to play
I played similar looking deck in Brawl. I have a few counter spells and instants that put her back into my hand in response to the exile step. Worse case, she goes into the command zone where is just a case of having the mana to cast her again. Either way, your video gave me ideas for better changes to my deck. Nice work on everything to bring it together!
I made my own Etrata deck thats somewhat similia and by far my favorite as well. I loved it so much i ordered the decklist on card kingdom the other day. I use Tamiyo Collector of Tales for digging and retrieving, risen reef, with some elementals like cloudkin seer, for card draw and ramp. Notion rain, winged words and chemisters insight. And the main card the made the idea click was Pattern Matcher. I use connive/concoct for retrieval/control, ichthymorphosis and unsummon for protecting or fetching another Etrata. Its fun cause even if you only get one. You can dig and use the pattern matcher to find another, then unsummon the pattern matcher to get the third. Anyways love the video
so glad i discovered this video because i made an Etrata Deck myself. as a beginner it has weaknesses for sure :) i made it two-colored black-blue. and my method of getting Etrata in hand is mostly via graveyard. so destroying Etrata is no a good solution in my deck :) and i managed to handle better flying threats. and my bonus-super-surprise is the gate, that grants haste. nothing is so surprising as an appearing Etrata that instantly attacks. harhar :)
I love Etrata. I ran into this build last week. Usually when you see Etrata, it's in a deck that doesn't have enough synergy around her, but I was amazed at how effective Enigmatic was. Having piloted an Etrata/Lazav/Spark Double deck, I did everything to prevent my demise, but this new tech was too strong for me in the end.
Really fun deck! I tried it out with some Elspeth's Nightmare instead of Murderous Riders - play it turn three and you get the two best modes from it before you sac it to your turn four Enigmatic.
Yeah that's not a bad idea at all. I've had trouble with planeswalkers and things out of range of Nightmare, so that's why I went with the Rider instead.
Recently discovered your channel on Aether Hub. I appreciate your "huh, why didn't I think of that" style of decks. That is something I aspire for when I'm brewing. Recently started my own channel and I'm sure I can learn some things from you. Keep it up!
Thanks for this creative deck! I was trying to make that card work in a vampire deck but in the best scenario it just work as a removal if it survives the round. It works as a bait too, cause when an opponent sees Etrata they just freak out and throw everything to her. I added a bound of revival, the haste works well when Etrata is hard countered, and some removal spells but just because I lack of 2 or 3 vital cards of the deck engine. Spend every wildcard I have! XD Totally worth it! Thanks again!
If you don't have the 4 Etrata it's worth giving the deck a try anyways. I'd add a bit more variety on the 4 slot creature, and a 5 cost creature too in case you have multiple enigmatic incarnations. PS: just discovered this channel via Reddit, seems awesome, good job!
Not really sure what exactly earned you my sub, but it should be among you casually sipping something tea-like out of your glass, trying to cover that burb or actually greate playing skills and nice description of your tactics. Either way I love it
Update: I built this and it's a ton of fun. The only thing I added were a few planeswalkers. Liliana, Dreadhorde general to take care of 2 annoying creatures quickly. Tamiyo, collector of tales to find what you're missing or grab something back from the GY. And Karn to grab situational artifacts from the sideboard. Also 4 Pulse of Murasa to get Etrata back and to grab Fabled passages back. It gains 6 life so it helps keep your life total afloat until Etrata creature lock is online.
A glass of scotch and enigmatic etrata deck, what a pair! This deck is amazing, except for the obvious downfall against pure control decks with plenty of removal and almost no creature spell. Keep it up!
37:10 i love the deck, maybe it's a mistake but i think you should keep the land and steal it with growth, you can ramp and after that you can fable passage and go thiner.. if you put it away you only shuffle it again in the deck.
I love this combo! Maybe omen of the sea would be better than bond of flourishing because it is also an enchantment? And maybe shaving one copy of ritual of soot for another spark double? I dunno, but I’m so glad to see the Etrata coming true
Enigmatic Inc. is such a cool card that brings up a million deck ideas, and none of them end up being very good. Using Etrata is awesome because I love Dimir and always wanted to make her good. Another win condition here could be Vraska, Golgari Queen, but hell, this deck is slow and vulnerable enough as is, so I doubt you would ever get her -9 Ultimate ability off.
I like the idea of Etrata "pod," since she can be sort of hard to find again after shuffling her back in. This makes her a lot more effective. Wondering if Neoform would be a good addition, or overkill? EDIT: You've definitely earned a new subscriber. Haha Thanks for sharing!
A Neoform version could work, but it would need to be a Neoform version (with lots of 3 drops). The fact that Incarnation sits around (unlike Neoform) and is active immediately (unlike Vannifar) make this version more consistent with Etrata. A Neoform/Vannifar creatures version may perform better, but at that point you're not really an Etrata deck anymore
This one was very interesting and off my beaten path. Getting frustrated because I don't have the cards for many of your recent decks and I'd like to try them out. I guess I'll have to find some way to buy them.

@@AbsurdHeroine No reason to apologize. I have made due. I think I'm the kind of person that isn't into playing the heck out of one deck. Been playing this (with some small changes because i was missing some cards and after playing i found that i could get very close to wining at times when i was left with no Etratas alive or in my deck... I have added another spark double to search for in the instances when i draw one. and i have added 4 bond of revival, because instantly putting an etrata or spark double on the table and hitting in the same turn can win games from no-where, and keeps you alive after all etratas are deadeded. Fantastic deck though. seriously good fun. curently destroying gold 2 with it as i type this!!
