    Thank you so much for this very understandable lesson. I've played piano by ear for 46 years but never knew what chords i was playing. I've tried many many times to learn to read music but for some reason I just can't. I've given up trying to read as I don't really need to to play but I really want to learn what the chords are and understand how they're structured. I also need some corrections with my fingering which I've learnt here too. Looking forward to working my way through your videos and getting on track to learning to play 'properly'! It's literally my lifelong goal to actually know what the notes/chords are I'm playing! Thank you :3

      So if you lay out all 10 fingers starting at C, your fingers will be on C, D, E, F, G, A, B, C, D, and E.
      The spacing of these ten notes is: Root (C), whole step (D), whole step (E), half step (F), whole step (G), whole step (A), whole step (B), half step (C), whole step (D), whole step (E).
      Again, thats:
      R-WW-H-WWW-H-WW
      If you change the root note from C to any other key, and you keep your fingers on the keys that follow this whole step/half step pattern, then the chords of that key will be played with the same fingers as those of the C scale.
      Your 1st 3rd and 5th finger will play the first major chord of that key. Your 2nd 4th and 6th finger will play the first minor key of that key. Your 3rd 5th and 7th finger will play the second minor chord of that key. Your 4th 6th and 8th finger will play the second major chord of that key. Your 5th 7th and 9th finger will play the third major chord of that key. Your 6th 8th and 10th finger will play the third minor chord of that key. Then if you move your right pinky up a half step, then your 7th 9th and 10th finger will play the diminished chord of that key.(MmmMMm°)

    U are using same key that is major CDRFGAB then how CEG is major chord and DFA minor ? Explain the theory of this

    • @ianalen1687
      @ianalen1687 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      major chord starts at your selected 1st key then press the 5th key (whether it is white or black) and then the 8th key. = in C major scale they ar CEG, FAC, GBD
      minor chord starts at your 1st key then press the 4th key and then add the 8th key = DFA, EGB, ACE
      In C major scale you build major chords on keys C, F, G and minor chords on keys D, E, A and a diminished chord on key B (if B is the first key then press the 4th key D and add the 7th key F = BDF
      F minor chord - Play the F key above middle C with your 1st finger (the thumb). Skip the next white key and play the Ab note with your 3rd finger and the C note with your 5th finger (the pinky).
      G major chord - placie your rights' hand first finger on G, skip the A note and press on B with your third finger, then skip the C note and press on the D with your fifth finger;
      Important -
      when playing chords A major, A minor, B major, B minor, B minor diminished you start with A or B keys BELOW the middle C, so it is A3 C4#(black key) E4, A3 C4 E4, B3 D4# F4#, B3 D4 F4#, B3 D4 F4 ( this is B minor diminshed)
      This is because chords and keys sounds best in the range of C3 -F4, no one will usually bother to say this to you and from videos you don't know which octave they're playing in because the keys are not numbered, the beginnings of octaves 2,3,4,5,6 are not indicated.
      Of course in C major scale you can play only A minor and B minor diminished
      But in other scales you can play A major, B major, B minor
      play an A chord (= A major chord) in the root position by placing your 1st, 3rd and 5th finger on A (under middle C)-C#(above middle C) and E with the right hand.
      B minor chord -Play the B key under middle C with you right hands' first finger. Play the D key above middle C with your 3rd finger and the F# key with your fifth.

    Why Dmin Emin chords in C major

    • @SimplifiedPiano
      @SimplifiedPiano  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! You form chords around each note of the C major scale in the pattern of major, minor, minor, major, major, minor, diminished. The d minor and e minor are the second and third notes of the scale. Hope that helps.

    Not in a single one tutorial video is it said (neither in yours, although it is obvious from the video) that the notes of C major scale are played in the fourth octave but the chords of C major are played in the third octave.

    • @iknowthatyouknowthatiknowt2930
      @iknowthatyouknowthatiknowt2930 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      i’m a beginner
      are you saying that C major is only played in the third octave? wdym

    • @ianalen1687
      @ianalen1687 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@iknowthatyouknowthatiknowt2930 ok, I could have been a little more precise.
      If teachers in videos demonstrate you the notes of a scale, e.g. C major, they use to play those notes one by one in the fourth octave
      and then they tell you that a chord is constructed on each of these notes, on some notes a major chord and on others minor or diminished,
      i.e. I ii iii IV V vi vii dim (for C major scale)
      A beginner would say ok, the chords will probably look like this:
      Cmaj Dmin Emin Fmaj Gmaj Amin
      C4 E4 G4 D4 F4 A4 E4 G4 B4 F4 A4 C5 G4 B4 D5 A4 C5 E5
      Bdim-inished
      B4 D5 F5
      Here, Amin Bdim have already quite high sound and if you would use them frequently in your song it would sound weird, so better use their version by octave lower
      A3 C4 E4 B3 D4 F4 (and use A4 C5 E5 only ocassionally as spice)
      or use their 1st and 2nd inversions:
      E4 A4 C5 C4 E4 A4 F4 B4 D5 D4 F4 B4
      You may even consider to use 1st inversion of Fmaj or Gmaj
      Of course you can play accords in any octave. But the notes for main melodies are best sounding in range of C3 - F4 for 80% of time
      Check out online sequencer, set the grid to whole notes (aka 1/1), choose synthesizer smooth as a instrument and start making chords and listen how they sound.
