This scene made me audibly scream and I realized I have unresolved trauma with my mom. Mother’s Day is tomorrow and she passed away 4 years ago. Idk what I’m doing but this art helped me somehow. Maybe I’ll know in the future.
i watched this with my neglectful, homophobic mom (i was high) we didnt know what we were in for. She was oblivious of how she's exactly like Melanie's mother. Ive come to realize it wont get any better.
They never saw/ percieved her as their own daughter. She was like just another human who they'd have to take care of and hence, became an unwanted burden well until she grew up and they started earning. Parents would never do a three-way split with their own child. They always are shown to sacrifice for their own children. The baggage that the mother had been hauling prevented her from looking at her with love, care and affection and as a result she couldn't say the word even if she wanted to.
Is the portrait of a disfunctional family and of what kind of consequences growing up without emotional support (emotional neglect) brings to the children.
That's actually her real voice. She's had voice lessons throughout her career to naturally raise it as that's more appealing in the industry, but for this movie she went with her natural one :)
i think It actually fits her character! Ive never heard of ERW before so i thought it fits. After watching I searched for the actress of Old Dolio and was surprised of her overall look and personality, honestly surprised too that her voice is not really deep. Instantly became a fan.
I think it was Old Dolio's way of trying to establish herself as an individual. She wasn't allowed to be a person...she was just supposed to be an extension and tool of her parents. But we all want to be someone distinct and unique. The voice was Old Dolio's way of trying to break of her parents' influence.

This is such a brilliant, moving film that blooms slowly, like its protagonist.
forgot how amazing the music is in this movie, Emilie Mosseri is becoming one of my favs now
Funny how she bristles at being “false, fakey people” when that is all they do every day for a living.
Right ! I think her calling Melanie hon is fake since she says she’s not like that

This movie is a masterpiece so so good!!!
I know this movie is supposed to be a comedy, but I find child-abuse profoundly disturbing
I don't believe it was ever intended to be a mindless comedy
Is it. Maybe a very off beat comedy at times. But I just found it 😔
It's a dramedy
This isn't played for laughs other than maybe how pathetic the parents are
Such a selfish mother
I love how melanie just grabs dolion without any permissin
So sad how they see her as a burden
I'm so sad
Why
Why
mah hart,mah soul💔
i've found ppl either feel represented by this movie or don't understand it all & it all has to do w/ their relationship w/ their families
i havnt watched this movie why cant she call her hon?
I think it's not that she can't, she won't because she doesn't care enough to be supportive and caring of her own daughter.
*Why can’t she call her “hon”? I watched the movie but I was confused at this part*

Why is she making her voice sound like that? It’s like she’s doing an impression of some SNL character I can’t put my finger on.
