You wouldn't believe how many songs from Final Fantasy randomly escape me while I'm absentmindedly doing stuff. Lots of them come from the 2D era, though there are also a bunch of bangers from the PSX era. But most of them are from V and VI. This is a fantastic and lovely rendition of a plaintive and whimsical song. Dear Friends is quite the bittersweet tune just by itself, and in context in game it's even more so. Awesome work. Thank you so much. (P.S. Stop pushing yourself too hard! That wrist brace needs to never come back! It has a wife and kids it needs to go home to!)

@@Harpsibored I had the original cart for FF3 US, and then later got both the PSX Final Fantasy Anthology and Final Fantasy Chronicles collections, so I had that music disc, too. I was always so disappointed it didn't have every song from both OSTs in it. Wouldn't his presence mean that you're not only a bracewrecker, but a wristwrecker too? Your wrist needs to survive! ...Along with the rest of you. Never let it be said I only value you for your wrists. 😆
ffv was my first encounter with the final fantasy series, i didn't realize how much depth this pixelated had!! it changed my way of thinking and in many ways it shaped the way i saw the world growing up. unlike modern games, it encourages you to use your imagination, yet it is still exciting. you get a different sense of gratification when you understand what's happening in these games because you don't just play the game you literally have to imagine what's going on. i remember myself immersed in this "fantasy world" of words, pixels, and midi music, it's truly poetic. 30 years later, with these new games in 3d, 4k, fast-pace action, but they are too overwhelming, overstimulating, and over-done. it gets exhausting. no matter how sophisticated the graphics gets, there is no substitution for storytelling that lets you imagine for yourself what's happening. this is the charm of pixelated games, abstracts race, height, what they sound like, and even how a female or a male should look like; it's up to you. in many ways, i'm very disappointed in square's remake of the modern games because most of the characters are basically all white and they all embody certain stereotypes. while this is square's choice i do feel like it's incongruent with how i imagined the main characters to be, after all, i played the game to escape reality for bit and imagine how things 'could be'. in this sense, there's far less freedom for imagination with these modern games. it's hard for me to relate to modern iteration of these games, disappointing.
This is my favorite song from my favorite Final Fantasy game. It evokes this beautiful feeling that after all the struggles and hardship there is a great deal of comfort in looking and seeing the Dear Friends we made along the way at our sides. A beautiful rendition of a beautiful song. Thank you so much for sharing this with us.

Thank you! I use a LDC mic for the bass (AT4050) and SDC mic for the highs (sE8). I'm still kinda figuring it out as I go, but overall I think you can't go wrong with an LDC for the bass and SDC for the highs. Also I'd recommend dangling the SDC higher up to catch the highs, I don't put it close to the soundboard. The high notes travel upwards. Anyway hope this info helps ❤️
@@Harpsibored I'm not sure if you've modified this setup over time ever since getting the new harp; I kind of had a preference for the old one, but this particular video sounds really good as in having top-tier game arrangement worthiness in its 2nd-half. Or it could be a difference in my assorted playback setups across more recent times.

Can you tell about how you record the harp to make such a great sound? what material did you use?
Thank you! I use a LDC mic for the bass (AT4050) and SDC mic for the highs (sE8). I'm still kinda figuring it out as I go, but overall I think you can't go wrong with an LDC for the bass and SDC for the highs. Also I'd recommend dangling the SDC higher up to catch the highs, I don't put it close to the soundboard. The high notes travel upwards. Anyway hope this info helps ❤️
@@Harpsibored I'm not sure if you've modified this setup over time ever since getting the new harp; I kind of had a preference for the old one, but this particular video sounds really good as in having top-tier game arrangement worthiness in its 2nd-half. Or it could be a difference in my assorted playback setups across more recent times.
