I grew up on a farm in lower Michigan and we always had a lightbulb in the well house to keep it from freezing. There was a small window in the side facing our house and at night you could see that little square of light from a long ways off. That let us know at a glance if the electricity had gone out at the barn or if the bulb needed to be replaced.
I use.a light bulb but sldo use a digital indoor / outdoor thermometer can always read the temperature inside pump house to know if the bulb is working. Also serves to let you know if your pump is running too much, temperature will rise dramatically if pump doesn't shut off.
This is a great idea because the bulb only draws 100 watts, whereas an electric heater would draw 750-1500 watts. PLUS....most all electric heaters will not restart when electricity is reapplied to them. I found this out when we lost power. Even though I have a standby generator, when the power is cut off for the 15 seconds before the generator kicks on, the heater will not run. You have to manually hit the switch to get the heater turned back on. By the way, did you permanently solve your rat problem with the baking soda?
Same thing happened to me three times in shady cove this week. Hey jerry I do have a ton of surplus from a hydroponic grow if you’re interested in getting some stuff for vegetable gardening reply and we can talk further

Tap into the power in the well house, do away with extension cord.
I do have s GFCI outlet on the well. Which is what that light is plugged into through a three foot long cord.
