Several years ago, I went to the Visitor Center in Hannibal and asked where was the home of Sherman Potter (M*A*S*H) fame. The gal looked at me with a puzzled look on her face and had to ask her supervisor. The moment made my day!
I grew up on the Mississippi River... in southern Arkansas... I loved crossing over the river and trying to hold our breath from one side to the other... none of us ever made it that far! 😁😛
My hometown! Best place in the US to spend 4th of July. A real week long hometown festival. Complete with national fence painting contest and new Tom and Becky named. Mud volleyball, frog jumping contest, relay races, arts and crafts on the park and a great parade Much more but too long to post.
Mark Twain also worked at the Sacramento Union newspaper. My brother and I had our neighborhoods route when we were kids. I used to meet the milkman on my route and trade a paper for a chocolate milk. Great memories.
Amazing video and tour thanks for sharing! Greetings from Toronto, Canada. I'm reading Huckleberry Finn right now after having read Tom Sawyer, and I had heard about the home and the settings. thanks for this post, looked like a really fun trip and tour!
Now wait a minute, I thought the price of admission was a frog, not $10! Anyway, I hope you didn't need gas between Marceline and Hannibal, 'cause it's pretty scarce. I did notice that you didn't stop at Jesse James' boyhood home in Kearney. Don't feel bad, my mom used to live in Kearney and I've never seen it either. Keep the good stuff coming.
Glad you got to experience the mighty Mississippi. It's been a record year for flooding. Living in a river town you come to expect the yearly event and sometimes forget how awesome the river is!! Great video. We are close to Hannibal, so that might be a trip to plan for this summer!! Safe travels.
Great video guys! It looks like yall had an awesome time checking out the area. We love Mark Twain!! We get to see the Mississippi River quite often....and were just recently based right on the levee during our first boondocking trip.
Awesome! I don't know how many times we crossed that river in St Louis traveling to Texas to visit my grandma. CBS Sunday has a story about the Mississippi River. We would go to Six Flags in Mo. then go to the Jesse James hideout Meramac Caverns. Careful in gator country, and watch out for giant snakes. Thanks guys.
It doesn't have anything to do with Mark Twain but I would suggest Ft. Defiance just south of Cairo, Illinois. It is the confluence of the Ohio River into the Mississippi River. Lots of history there. Lewis and Clark stayed there for several days testing equipment and planning their westward exploration.
You guys are seeing some awesome "Did you know" type stuff lately! Love it! And yes, that reflection of Tom Sawyer's Island and Disneyland and the reality...I got the feels. :)
@Byron Pepitone 04:30 early??? As a kid on the farm, (50+ years ago) the morning milking was finishing up at 04:30! Then, back in to finish school homework, eat breakfast, change clothes and head to school in town. LOL! Overall, "early" is always a personal conception! Best to all! Ken
Of course, now you have to come to NY. Sam Clemens spent many years of his life in Buffalo and central NY among places (of course) Cool caverns!!!! Check ur blood pressure. Spots? Hmmm!
👍
I live and work here in hannibal and love that people all over the country and world comes to visit my home town

That background hammering is a ram-hoe attachment on a piece of construction equipment. They're probably breaking up pavement.

That's too funny about the lighthouse. It was built the year my Mom was born and blown away the year I was. LOL
Lucky you are east. I am just west of Houston and calling for 37F in the morning, 34F on Friday. Florida can't come soon enough!
It's supposed to freeze here this weekend. But 50's during the day. We agree, 80 degrees sounds nice.

Thank you for playing tourists for the day! That was good...

You sure packed a lot of adventure in one day. Great video thanks for sharing.
Tom Sawyers Island was my favorite attraction at Disneyland when I was a kid. They’ve closed most of the best parts of it now. I’m not bitter.
Thanks Dan and Jen for this interesting video. Visited Hannibal a little over twenty years ago and it was nice to see it all again.
Wow

Samuel Clemens also in his later life rented and lived here in a villa in Florence, Italy. You should come over and I will take you there.
That guy lived everywhere!
Quite enjoyable. Great background music at a good volume.
