Good review. I just finished it last night and I liked it a little better than you did. It was finally more of a classic western with grudges, gunslingers, settlers, and evil land barons. It was written way back in 1960 so the tone was slightly different than the previous books. LL was still honing his vision of the series at that point. I hope you will be ready to re-join the Sacketts and the wagon train in January!
I agree it did have more of the western feel that I’ve come to associate with a Louis Lamour novel. For whatever reason it just didn’t do it for me lol I’m glad you enjoyed it though! I will be rejoining the wagon train in January and I look forward to seeing you back on the trail again!

I don’t know why I didn’t enjoy it as much as everyone else lol I guess I’ll just blame it on lack of sleep from traveling so much on the trail😂

This series sounds like it is all over the place.
It has been so far. Which isn’t a bad thing they’ve all been good books there’s just been others that I think I’d prefer to read more again.
