One of my favorite movies of all times... I often watch it again when I need some "push" to finish something that is academically oriented and I need that extra motivation.
@@06_Ale_06 You are so right about this. This movie was often playing in the background through undergrad and two graduate programs. Loved it and often go back to it. Old faithful!
Robin Williams was a big part of my childhood. When he passed, I couldn't bring myself to watch Dead Poets Society, though I have watched it many times in my youth. When I was scrolling tonight, came across this, started listening, reading the comments. I watched it again since his death, and glad I did. Felt like connecting with old friends.
This is exactly the kind of playlist i was looking for to listen while i study! Many dark academia playlists have loud pianos and other instruments that are overstimulating but this is perfect i love it
Exactly! Often, music is sooo full of lots of things. Sometimes I just need a single and simply melody, a type of music I can forget about but that at the same time is well done enough to make me feel good and focused. And dark/light academia is one of those type of music. (Sorry for my English).
I always love this movie as it feels so close to home. The University I'm at is a very similar to the school in DPS. Our rooms are very similar, with the 6 over 6 wooden window frames, the old style radiators, that collegic-gothic style stonework. Being England, the weather is similar too. Watching feels like a film set in a day of my own life. With the imagery in the film, it makes me appreciate it more. Thanks for the playlists, always a joy to study to.
I need to vent, so I guess I'll unload here. I am a junior in high school this year, but I homeschool and have been for multiple years. I've lost all contact from my public school friends. I do have a best friend though. She homeschool's too, and through that, we have become quite close. She and I are opposites though. If she where to stay in school, I'm sure she'd have been the homecoming queen and a favorite among just about everyone. Her bubbly, sunny personality paired with how pretty she is makes her the center of the room when she walks in. I, on the other hand, am not so socially inept. Our separate interests do not aline in any way. I love academics. I used to study philosophy but I've currently been engulfed in Chemistry and Poetry. Her interests consist of various shows that she watches, interior design, and sports news. Our family's call us ying and yang. They're right. I don't mind listening to her talk about what she's passionate about, but she seems to roll her eyes when I try to quote Whitman or Frost or when I try to express how fascinating a theory in Chemistry is. I don't blame her. It would be boring, I'm sure, for someone to go on and on about something you don't care about, and she does keep her topics quite brief. I suppose my biggest internal conflict is that we seem to only watch movies together that she wants to watch. We have series that we refuse to watch, her's being Star Wars and mine being Fast and Furious, but I have practically begged her to watch some of my favorites (DPS being one of them, Breakfast club being another, [Holden Caulfield is my favorite fictional character if it wasn't obvious I have a type]) and she refuses. I understand, but I'm getting sick of Adam Sandler movies. She is the reason I have other friends. She's the mutual friend that connects me to every other friend I have. Of them, I know no one have similar interest. I feel as though I'm wasting my youth not being around people my age that grow my interests through mutual passion. It's lonely. There is also a three story abandoned house very close to mine which would be perfect to hold Dead Poets Society meetings like in the movies with that cave. The sight of it is salt in the wound. I feel as though, everywhere I see around me, there is bliss, from which I alone am excluded (yes, I love Frankenstein too). Now that I have this written out, I feel quite embarrassed that I am confessing this, but it would be a waste to delete. Maybe there is someone out there in the isolating network of the internet that clicked on this video who is in a similar situation.
You aren't wasting time. It would be lovely to have people that you connect with on a deeper level, but those connections will come with time. You will find your people. Take it from someone who only found people who really understood her this year (first year of uni). Things will work out and you will find people who like the things you like, it may just take some time. Until then, enjoy what these friends do add to your life, and continue to cultivate your interests and passions.
Your friend is your needs answered. He is your field which you sow with love and reap with thanksgiving. And he is your board and your fireside. For you come to him with your hunger, and you seek him for peace. When your friend speaks his mind you fear not the “nay” in your own mind, nor do you withhold the “ay.” And when he is silent your heart ceases not to listen to his heart; For without words, in friendship, all thoughts, all desires, all expectations are born and shared, with joy that is unacclaimed. When you part from your friend, you grieve not; For that which you love most in him may be clearer in his absence, as the mountain to the climber is clearer from the plain. And let there be no purpose in friendship save the deepening of the spirit. For love that seeks aught but the disclosure of its own mystery us not love but a net cast forth: and only the unprofitable is caught. And let your best be for your friend. If he must know the ebb of your tide, let him know its flood also. For what is your friend that you should seek him with hours to kill? Seek him always with hours to live. For it is his to fill your need but not your emptiness. And in the sweetness of friendship let there be laughter, and sharing of pleasures. For in the dew of little things the heart finds its morning and is refreshed.
I feel you. I love poetry and everything dark acedemia. I have two best friends and none of them are interested in these things. But yk what? It's alright. Ik sometimes you just want to read your poetry out to someone and watch their face change to awe. Having friends with different interests is good. You might be able to learn new things from them that you might end up liking and maybe later on in life you will find people with similar interests as yours.
I think it’s very meaningful that you took the time and energy to write this comment. My sister and I are the same way. She has pushed me into learning new things I never would have learned. I understand, though, as I really appreciate connecting with people deep down. I think those are the best kinds of companions, but they are often hard to find in life, so appreciate all the friendships you have. I am in my sophomore year college and much enjoy writing and poetry, as well. If you find the right types of people, there will always be someone who admires your work.

no it’s not we romanticize bc of ourselves we don’t care about what teacher or others going to say , and we study bc we need to , do u know why do we study math in college? Bc it helps our brain to focus, and so does bio and chem and phys help u in life if u pay close attention, and it depends on what job are u getting, if ur going to be eng or a doctor it helps or study physics, or philosophy u can describe ur feelings in a science way or if u become a science fiction writer it could help , so nothing is a waste of time all u have to do is focus
