I took my 540 to the dealer for the “free” repair on the active grill issue. When I picked the car up my service advisor pulled me to the side and told me realized my car was tuned (BM3) and said he had to remove the tune so to not void my warranty and replaced it with the BMW MPPSK tune at no extra cost. I’d rather the BM3 but I’m thankful my service guy looked out for me!
I got a 440i and bought an extended warranty with it and after a month of having it I flashed BM3 STG2 and snapped my drive shaft using launch control. my warranty covered it so I think if you have a shop that you know will help you keep quiet about the modified stuff to your warranty you should be all good.
@@AD-xq4hoyeah should’ve been more clear on that, it was inspected by bmw before purchase from the dealership I got it from. It was not a bmw warranty, I didn’t want one because I knew I was going to be tuning
So I just went through this in my 2020 x3m. I snapped my driveshaft after an BM3 tune and a 10.7 run. I returned to stock. When I took it in as soon as they plugged in the scan notified BMW North America. At this point it was not up to the dealership. BMW NA contacted the dealer and told them to stop diagnosis while they research. the dealer said they are required to plug in on all drivetrain related damages. they said we can see its been tune. we done know the tune but its been run outside their safe parameters. Warranty void and trade in value is now considered wholesale.
Usually they can tell, and that will void your warranty on engine/driveline. (ex dealer tech talking here) but it depends on the customer/dealer relationship. A returning customer who has their car serviced regularly at the dealership might get lucky, at least at the dealership I worked at we didnt make a huge problem of software or even hardware mods as long as the mods were done properly, and didnt have a relation to the problem the customer claimed warranty on. Like tune+blown cat=get lost, you probably caused it yourself, but a tune+broken timing belt before its "change by" mileage would not be a problem.
@@kern417 My knowledge might be a little out of date.. Ive left the dealership mechanics life 5+ years ago in pursuit of a better paying career (and haven`t looked back, the automotive sector pay and career options are by far the worst of any technical trade out here)
I purchased a 2018 440i Gran Coupé, has around 85k miles on it. I got a 4 year extended Lubrico warranty, and the warranty is done by European Indy shops. I wonder if I’ll have an issue if go stage 1 without any visual mods.
Very helpful, thank you…lets say you’re like screw the warranty, I’m gonna take my chances… 3-4 years go by no issues, and now its time to sell the car. If you remove all software/hardware, will the dealer still let you trade it in? Or sell it back? This is perhaps more important than the the tune blowing something up and warranty not covering it, considering you choose the right tune and install it correctly.
@@OhDearBabajan like I said you can return it at any time. A dealership has no problem selling a modified car. If it's a lease then they may charge you to return it back to stock so like I said it could affect the offer that they buy your car for.

Does this technically mean that Bimmercode will void electrical warranties too?? Damn! my toyota dealer for my a90 supra said its OK to change the settings on bimmercode. but i guess not!
I dont know exactly how ista for bmw works, im a vw tech and we can tell by the values for example we can see if turbo psi has gone over what the factory threshold is. Sometimes depending on the customer we will warranty certain parts or not
First up is like normal. You plug it in, it does a diagnostic scan, and let you know if they are any open recalls or service reminders. If you get lucky and it's something that doesn't need diagnostics then you may get around it. But as soon as they plug it in it'll pick up the tune.

I've seen multiple accounts of people being screwed over because they bought a car that they didn't know was tuned. They're supposed to do the same diagnostic before putting a warranty on a car but I think they don't do it all the time.
When I got my truck 19 x3m40. I needed a software upgrade. They informed me it was tuned I played stupid said I just got the car. They upgrades the software and I had no problem.
