This is New York City. The cost of doing business there is exorbitant, from rent, if applicable, to taxes, required insurances, the cost of food and supplies, wages, workman's comp so on and so forth. Hence the high prices of pretty much everything.
My daughter lives a few blocks from the Upper East Side Location. I'm a real Cookie Monster. But sometimes just one half of a Levain cookie is enough for one sitting.
Hey big fan of your show, have you ever been to Chirping Chicken on the upper west side? If not you should really try it. The half of chicken well done is very delicious 🤤 Also, you should try magnolia bakery if you never been there before as well.
I went there for the first time in September and had the double chocolate chip one and it was amazing! Unfortunately I can’t have walnuts which really sucks. But I’m glad I was able to have one of the cookies there and I was not disappointed. Can’t wait to go back again!
I'm allergic to all nuts in the way that I should be avoiding food that shares on certain equipment with their other ingredients. Are you the same? Or is your allergy mild?
I love Levain. I used to be able to get them frozen at whole foods here in North Texas but that seems to have went away. When I'm in the city I get like 3 cookies and nibble on them for a week
Arizmendi Bakery in San Francisco has great pastries. They also make breads and pizzas which are popular. Their mint chocolate chocolate chip cookies is awesome.
Remember many times making the trek to the UWS & standing on long lines to get just one. As for the cookie, best choc chip anywhere. Begins & ends with choc chip walnut - the walnut adds texture, oil & a good contrast in flavor to the sweetness of the chocolate. Recently, I’ll go to Chip City for my cookie fix - not as good because no walnuts in the choc chip but more locations for convenience. Also, Chip City Confetti cookie is the best butter cookie anywhere.
I tried 4 different flavors. On a 1-10 scale, the walnut chip one was 6, coconut caramel one was 6.25, double chip was 6.5, and chocolate on chocolate was 6.75. The base has a different texture and was a little dry (that's just the way it's made and not a mistake) The base was just lacking flavor outside of the chocolate chips in it. I appreciated the large walnut hunks in the one cookie. I could hardly taste coconut or caramel in that cookie either. I didn't hate them but would probably not get them again just because there are so many other desserts I love much much more. I'm glad I tried them though.
Went to Levain in Harlem yesterday! They are SO GOOD!!! I actually love the two-chip chocolate cookie. The double chocolate is exactly as you described, it's almost too much of a good thing which makes it perfect.
Us I loved your revue of the Levine cookies.I had them once and they were fantastic. They were worth every penny of the price. It is too bad that that that I never get to New York.
UA, if you ever make it to Orlando - you will have to review Gideons Bakehouse. Having tried both cookie shops, Gideons will give Levain a run for its money.
I mean people spend ridiculous amount of money for one cup of coffee - this cookie isn’t that bad compared to those (however, I still prefer my own home baked organic cookies, which cost less than $1 each to make).
@@LegendNeverD1esI used to get Starbucks often… now hardly ever as cost went up again… mostly drink coffee at home or when I have an offer for free coffee outside.
If possible, please do a cookie comparison with Maman's nutty chocolate chip cookie and Crumbl! P.S. My favorite from Levain is actually their oatmeal raisin.
I hope this location has cookies with white chocolate in them. I don't hate chocolate (well dark chocolate I don't like at all) but I avoid it at all costs usually. White chocolate I LOVE though. And in a freshly baked, warm cookie - you can't beat white chocolate that's all gooey and yummy (like milk chocolate also, go figure!). And while I've been to this place (not this location specifically, but this "chain") quite a few years ago now - they still look like they are kicking ass when it comes to cookies and baked goods.
We go there (the UES location) ALL the time! The only thing I would say is that I wish there was a somewhat larger variety of cookies (I also really like Insomnia cookies - and they have a better selection overall I would say but the quality is better here).

Love your chanel but Levain opened in 1995 then a NY Times review made it popular in 1997. I was in HS and went there, it was always a treat the cookies never changed. I'm glad they have expanded and more people know about them, but part of me is sad it is no longer gate kept and can also be found at whole foods frozen section. Good for you to go to the OG location and pay homage to a NY instituion!!
It depends on your personal preference. If a TH-camr loves it, it won’t mean you will love it. Personally I prefer the delicate thin Italian lace cookies.
I went there for the 1st time a few weeks ago and had a dark chocolate peanut butter chip cookie and it was fricking huge. Tasted great. I still prefer Schmackary's as i prefer their cookies overall.
thats how restaurants n bakeries now do it... u go in they put the serving size like 3X n they sold 3 cookies or 2 servings per plate n priced as a markup of food cost so lost of profits ... same effort, overhead forcing patrons to buy in bulk without discount. if they portion servings like in Asia u can eat 1 or buy 2 or 3 but its your choice... u r getting scammed into buying 3 cookies for 1
The best thing you can do, since sugar is behind so many deseases. Get your sugar from fruits but eat them instead of getting it in liquid form. Too much fruit is not good either.
Best in NY? Have you even tried other famous spots????? Levain is more like a scone or biscuit or muffin cake. If you like scones or cake style cookies, they're nice. If you're looking for crispy or crispy/chewy, this isn't that. If you can have crispy, chewy and buttery, I think that's overall what most people want. Cakey cookies are less popular. Just making a large cookie isn't enough. The only one worth getting is the Chocolate chocolate because at least it's not trying to be a chocolate chip cookie.
I can make my own cookies they’re just as good if not better for about $.50 each. And mine are huge as well. Why would anyone waste their money on a cookie like this?
I don't eat deserts, but I like UA so I watched this. Here is an example of why all prices are out of control: People cannot stop spending money and don't understand the concept of value.
I prefer a thinner cookie that's more done but still a little chewy. I don't really like raw dough that just looks like uncooked it just doesn't look good. But people that like raw cookie dough I'm sure they would love that I'm sure the quality is great just not up my alley🤷🏻
It’s all personal preference. This cookie is more of an American style. The more delicate European cookies might have better refinement. Either way, personal preference
I love your videos, but I think they would be greatly enhanced if you did some basic research in advance on how to properly pronounce the names of restaurants, dishes and ingredients.
I was in NYC two weeks ago, and went to Magnolia Bakery, to try their much hyped, banana pudding….SO GOOD. Even better, was their specialty, Apple Crisp pudding ❤❤
It's a chocolate chip cookie, they are all made the same. Levain is a rip off. is They are just cookies, nothing special. I really like the Costco Kirkland chocolate chip cookies that come in that transparent plastic case with 24 cookies. If you put those cookies in the microwave for like 30 seconds, you will have a warm cookie with melting chocolate like a lava cake. In costco you get 24 delicious chocolate chip cookies for like $7 while here in Levain, you have 1 cookie for $5. So Levain is a rip off
You can spend $1 on a Tim Hortons doughnut or spend $4 on a Paula’s doughnut which is one of if not the best on earth. You’re not wrong, but sometimes you gotta do it.
Again, you state that X is the best X in NYC (or the U.S.), but since you haven't had them all, you *cannot* make that claim. Levain is certainly a solid choice for a cookie, but until you do a video comparing *all* of the top cookies in NYC, you just look foolish stating the Levain is the best of anything.
Levain is not worth the hype, IMO. I don't even like the cookies, and I love cookies and am not a picky eater. They're too thick, sweet, doughy, and buttery.
