As an Arizona fan, I'm proud of my state going 1st overall, but I can't help feeling like this will turn out to be a Greg Oden type situation.
Would love to see a household appliance draft. Everything from TVs to Washer/Dryer, Vacuum, Dustbuster, Blender. Really anything you plug in in your house. Would be even better if there was no fixed list of what could be drafted so you could even argue eligibility.
Than they have to live with only those appliances for a day, until Jake tries to argue for the toilet and lights

I would have tweaked this format a bit and added a “flex” spot from any region for a total of 6 states per team. That would have added a whole other level of strategy.

NC native here. Wasn't going to comment/brag about NC then you compare it to SC. Jomboy hit it, beach and mountains. I respect SC but not even close, saying Myrtle Beach is better than Wrightsville or Outer Banks is like saying Brent Gretzky is better than Wayne. Jomboy so much respect for the pick and doing your research, hopefully the secret doesn't get out. The Carolinas are the Carolinas, the Gretzkys are the Gretzkys, Jake, I respect the Arizona pick, I was willing to listen but you didn't convince me. I'm floored about the Arizona pick, genuinely. I mean you could go to other regions and get a better pick in the first round than AZ. Texas, NY, Cali were all sat there and I just don't know how you take Arizona over Texas when it was still there.

Myrtle isn't even our best beach and I wish people not from the Carolinas understood that. Sullivans Island, Folley, and Kiawah are all way better and I think can hold a flame to OBX. I'll say at least one thing SC has over NC is you can actually drive from one end of our state to the other in one day without hating life. Also mustard bbq > vinegar.

Myrtle Beach is a tourist trap, and the roads in South Carolina suck ass.
Myrtle Beach area = 60 miles of beach.......OBX = Near 200 miles of beach. They really aren't even close enough to compare. NC spanks SC in every region easily. Granted I live in Kitty Hawk so I'm slightly biased, but I lived in Charleston and visited Hilton Head quite a lot when I was younger. NC > SC without doubt.
North Myrtle Beach is good though.
Downtown Myrtle Beach hasn't been good in like 20 years.
I was gonna, I've never even been to Myrtle beach but I can tell by the people who go there and the way they talk about it its pretty trash. I think the mountain/beach/culture combo in NC is only rivaled by California.

The fact Massachusetts wasn’t picked is almost criminal though... beyond history, it’s also the best college destination in the US, with MIT and Harvard alone putting it at the top. Arguably the best startup/tech culture as well in addition to California.
PA is for sure 2nd in the northeast behind NY the other states are just too small to compare

PA is the worst state in the country
I'm a little disappointed they didn't talk about how their whole team balances out. You don't want to end up too heavy in any attribute and too weak in others. They should have shown how the whole team works together.
I was thinking whether they were undervaluing agriculture or natural resources. In that way Alaska could have been a big contender in the west based on oil alone. And same with Kansas.

This Virginia slander is a personal insult. We have beaches, fishing on the Chesapeake, hiking in the Shenandoah and Blue Ridge, some prime golfing on the peninsulas, and collegiate sports (professional if you want to include the DC teams which a lot of people here follow). The weather can get cold in the winter but its nothing worse you'd get in Maryland or Delaware.
A friend of mine told me it is the virgin capital of America as well. I am down for that.

If LA was considered SW instead of SE, we definitely would have seen it get picked although I am surprised it didn't get taken anyway. South East was pretty loaded though on the top end. Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Louisiana I think would have all been good picks.

Population seemed to play a decent part in most of these selections and Florida is the 3rd most populous state with the 7th highest growth rate in the 2010s. Weather is nice year round, beaches are nice, no state income tax, a massive amount of cultural mixing and latino culture, especially in South Florida. Closest state to the Caribbean which makes flights there cheaper.
Plus sports, holy hell do you have options for sports. You've got the Bucs, Jags, Dolphins, Canes, Noles, Gators, UCF, South Florida, FIU, Heat, Orlando & Lakeland Magic, Lightning, Panthers, Rays, Marlins, Orlando City, Orlando Pride, Inter Miami, 12 minor league baseball teams & 20 minor league soccer teams. Florida's also known as a hot spot for top level high school football talent (as of February last year they had the most blue chip recruits in that college recruiting class) and have are in the Top 5 for producing the most 5 star recruits in the last 5 years for college basketball. Being that this is primarily a sports channel, I figure sports would play into it a lot.
North Carolina and Louisiana are miles better than Florida.

Tbf, his 3rd & 4th picks were strong too. Michigan & North Carolina were both great picks, Oklahoma was the only pick that was weak and the only state I think he should have considered taking instead of one of his others was Louisiana over NC but I totally get the NC pick. I think AZ at 1, value wise is the worst pick in the draft but Oklahoma was definitely the worst state that was drafted but that just comes down to region limits. Also thought that Jake taking Maryland over PA or MA in the North East was kinda wild.

VA honestly would’ve been a sleeper pick…..you’ve got a very populated area of the Hampton Roads with Norfolk, VA Beach, and Chesapeake where you have cities, suburbs, and solid beaches. You have the DC area up north and then out west you have beautiful mountain ranges for hiking and camping…..overall a pretty dynamic place.

I gotta give it to Jimmy for the California New York absolute power duo. Personally I would’ve went with New Mexico over Oklahoma but snagging a Carolina was huge and Michigan, the home state for me, was a steal. I understand it going after Illinois the Chicago factor is fairly large but Jake calling the mitten a reach is just mind boggling. The nicest part of Wisconsin is our upper peninsula, and Minnesota wishes they were hockey town. Ohio I thought was a huge snub, Washington was a surprise, Oregon a snub, Massachusetts huge snug by BBD. I’m not as low on PA as Jimmy and Jake but when Jake went Maryland I was convinced Mass was going BBDs way which would’ve made this a lot more close

Yeah Texas obviously the monster steal there and I think he got too much flak for the PA pick.
I think the thing with BBD's picks are that there weren't any real weak picks and Texas falling in his lap was a god send to add to a very good consistent core of states. PA is a super underrated pick as well I feel, especially in the 5th round while Jake's out here blowing his loud on Arizona at 1 and taking Maryland over other NE states like PA & Massachusetts and I feel like his Hawai'i wasn't as good a pick as was made out when he could have taken Washington or Oregon, he already had a holiday state.

I think in order to do this fully you have to draft all 50 but keep the regions and every 5 picks or 6 if you add another region which you should just reset and pick through the regions again but yeah you have to pick all the state I would love to see the arguments about the Dakotas and Wyoming and Montana.

I live in Colorado and visit family in SLC. People sleep on Utah, SLC is like a mirror of Denver with less tourists. I love it out there
I maintain that New Mexico has even better snow, because there's less of it than in Utah and when it cloaks the Sandia mountains it's the most gorgeous snow I've ever seen.
Mormons are just overly nice. It’s creepy af I wouldn’t want to live around a bunch of Mormons and plus I wouldn’t be able to drink in Utah (I don’t even drink much but the occasional drink would be nice).

NJ gets a lot of negative attention, and it's the most over-crowded state, but they also have 6 Flags Great Adventure, which is the best 6 Flags in existence, and is the 2nd best theme park in the country, next to Cedar Point.
I'm from NJ but I kinda get it. Everyone thinks we're just NYC's suburbs lol. I like our state tho
I grew up my whole life in Illinois and we people (not from Chicago) wanted Chicago to be it's own thing!
I'm also living in Michigan now and there is way more state pride here, and it's a lot more beautiful than most realize!
To sum it up: I felt like the mid-west was unjustly dumped on... then I remembered what this is :'D

As an Ohio native I feel like our state is slept on we have 2 pro baseball, football and soccer teams and also a pro basketball team and Ohio state for college sports. We also have the Columbus zoo the biggest zoo in the United states and the 2nd largest amusement park in world Cedar Point.
As a fellow Ohio native I don’t see it finishing in the top 15, but it deserves way better than bottom 15.
Ohio is my number one in the Midwest. I know that’s crazy because everyone sagas it’s boring but it’s not they have the best amusement park in Cedar point, the pro football hall of fame, an amazing CFB team as well as another that’s really good at the moment (Cincinnati), two pro football teams, steak and shake (which the highest quality ones exist in Ohio), and the Cavs.

NM would be my first pick. I love dry heat, and I am a big architecture guy so I love how unique the architecture is within the US (a bland country architecturally tbh).
Colorado and Utah should be in the Southwest. The Southwest is too small, and the West is too strong. This would solve both those problems
I feel like Kansas probably should have been as well but I think by including those states in the South West, Jomboy would win the draft by default simply by having a better state than Oklahoma as his worst state.

My picks were Utah (major sleeper in my opinion), Wisco was my 2nd pick, New Mexico was my third, Florida would've been my fourth, but I understood it was almost guaranteed it'd be snagged before I would have had a chance at it, so my southeast pick and fourth pick was South Carolina, and then Northeast changed from considering either Vermont or Maine to Mass since it was still on the board, and I didn't have a classic Powerhouse. So my end team would be if I was a part of it is Utah, Wisconsin, New Mexico, South Carolina & Massachusetts.
For me, Alaska, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Washington predictably for me were also high on my list, none of them being able to have an order and all in stiff competition for me between them if I didn't go for Utah for it's huge sleeper status. As a Oregonian, I love the fuck outta this state, minus the cliche loud mouthed holier than thee SJWs you always hear about scattered across the westside of the state. As for the Southwest, it was always New Mexico for me, and I knew most people would refuse to touch it sadly. Oklahoma wasn't even in my thoughts because it's itself, like Iowa. It ain't even relevant enough to think of for how bland, plain & blank it is. Northeast was in order Vermont, Maine & Mass as my three, Southeast in order was Florida, South Carolina, Tennessee & Arkansas as my tops there and then Midwest was Wisco, Minne & North Dakota in order. Even if I was involved, and as usual I always place myself at that point last in the draft orders (4th), I would have been able to get Wisco if I recall the order selections correctly.
Utah is HUGE sleeper pick here due to it's diversity (yes, that sounds like a complete joke of a statement for how Mormon and white it's populace is). See, Utah has Arches, Zion & Bryce National Parks, it has 5 National Rec areas, three national rec areas, many national preserves, reserves & refuges, alongside countless scenic viewpoints. The amount of revenue is ridiculous just from that, let alone the draw it brings. It also has a quickly increasing role in film from music videos and documentary to triple A Hollywood films and series in it's southern portion (for the same landscapes of aforementioned areas), the famous Park City up in the Wasatch Range, it's within eye-line & a short drive to both the best spots of the Colorado Rockies as well as the Grand Canyon acting as a sort of mobile hub for the transient travelers and tourists (more recognition, more impressions, more future visitors, equaling even more revenue as a result each year from it). It's relatively close by to Vegas when you're in the rec areas and national parks of the southern portion of the state too, and in close proximity to Yellowstone as well when you're up around SLC & Park City. It's literally the mid point between all these massively popular areas. It's the hub to the spokes of the "wagon wheel" of travel and recreation. It's in a ridiculously fantastic position because of it all. And now with everyone wanting "Mars" themed backdrops and that stuff, Instagram pictures as that rot, again the southern portions of the state have plenty of that to offer them. All in all, a huge sleeper state as a result, the unsuspecting & silent powerhouse state.
Oregon is a fantastic pick because of the passion & loyalty of the sports fan base here to their respective teams. Die hard is an understatement. But the true reason for why it's such a fantastic pick is it's diversity - yep, it's once again here! The Diversity in ecosystems, landscapes, environments and thus climates is absurd and wonderful. You got desert that gets well into the 100s in the summer and has the signature cracked ground and barren surface as far as the eye can see, we got scrubland, we got sub-alpine and alpine, we got mild Mediterranean an climates on our southern coastline, we have hot & dry forests with scorpions, we have cacti, we have pine martens and pikas, yet pronghorns, rattlesnakes and black widows, we have rain forests, swamps, marshes & plains, we have gorgeous, quiet beaches, some rocky, some forested, others flat & open. We've got it all.

I can understand picking Michigan #1 in the Midwest. Once you get past the Detroit thing, it’s a beautiful state. How anyone can pick Wisconsin over Minnesota though, is beyond me.

Best things about Florida: the beauty of its natural spaces plus mild winters. Worst things: the areas overrun with condos and tourist traps.

@@mattnorris7124 it's really not that volatile, it's gonna be very hot and very humid every day no matter where you go. Rain is the only wildcard, but its less likely to happen in the Summer than in the Spring/Fall.

Philly's great if you like being dead
People hate on Philly but it's a great city with all 4 major sports teams and tons of history. Pittsburgh is an underrated city as well, and the surrounding scenery in the western part of the state is beautiful. I'd say PA is a solid pick, not spectacular but it gets the job done
As someone who moved to Wisconsin, you guys got it. Nationally we get terrible publicity of being cold, but its great.
