I'm an amazon seller. While some sellers sell the same generic boring items, many sellers like me work extremely hard to improve the products in every way, bigger battery, better materials, better support, upgraded functionality. So, don't let those sellers make you feel that all sellers are boring and lame, as you described.

You guys do know that at least 70% of stuff that is sold on Amazon by third parties are coming from the same Chinese manufacturers that are on Temu, right? They are the same products but with a label on it and 3x-5x more expensive... just take a look. I'm in Eastern Europe and local e-commerce sites are going down one after another, just because they sell same products. And of course, here I'm talking about products that doesn't involve any quality standards, like regular household stuff.

It really depends on what you need, when you need it, and how long do you want it to last. I've placed 3 different orders from Temu. All 3 took at least 2-3 weeks to receive my order. All of the products were absolute garbage. Conversely, I needed some shipping labels for some packages that needed to go out this week. I ordered them from Amazon yesterday, they arrived today along with some coffee I also ordered yesterday. With Temu you're not gonna find Nikes, Tide, or Crest toothpaste. You can't get any gourmet groceries, or any food items for that matter. Temu is the epitome of dollar store electronics that sound like a great deal because you think "How much different can a pair of 2$ wireless headphones really be from the more expensive ones" Once you get them you realize the difference. You get what you pay for, always remember that.

I shop at both and am mostly satisfied with Temu for things other than clothing. I do compare if, what I want to buy from Amazon is on Temu and for what price. A lot of the items are on both platforms with lower price tags on Temu. I then ask myself if I can wait 2-3 weeks or is it something I need to use asap, that usually determines which platform I buy from. I am not into brand names so I can't speak on that, but for everyday daily essentials, it's either Walmart or Amazon. Temu for me is mostly for items that fulfil a hobby rather than everyday practical items.

I always prefer to buy quality over a perceived replacement of such for a much cheaper price. I’ve lived long enough that I’ve seen major store chains that sold cheap quality items for years finally go out of business. Kmart, Woolworths and 99 cents store to name a few.
Also when I do buy something online, I’m buying it because I need it now or tomorrow and of course Amazon usually fulfills that need. There are times that I’ve purchased items from Walmart as well because I know what I’m getting though I may have to wait a little longer. I bought something through Temu last year thinking I was getting a good deal and found out very quickly that you get what you pay for.

You can tell if a company is good for you by going to their privacy policy page and their terms page and doing an in page search for the words "third party" - then look at the text on either side of "third party", to see if it is something you agree with. It will let you know how they share your personal info.

Actually it would be very easy to destroy temu, just do inspections on all their products and you will find that 99% are not compliant with western safety standards when it comes to chemical composition, levels and types of plasticizers and all the other crap they contain and emit etc. All this chinese crap is labelled compliants with CE (for Europe) and UL (USA) while it absolutely does not meet the standards, I know it from personal experience. Temu would be fined for millions of violations if inspections were done and the law inforced... Amazon sellers would also get recked but hey, they would then be forced to be accountable for the quality of what they sell...

TEMU will kill Amazon if they build a few distribution centers in the US.
It is the exact same products as on Amazon. The difference is you, the customer, are paying for tariffs, inbound shipment fees, low inventory fees, PPC, pick and pack fees, the seller's profit, and 15% commission if you buy on Amazon.
The fees are so excessive that TEMU can easily halve Amazon's prices.

We have been buying goods from China for a long time now and the quality of the goods is actually better than what was being produced locally prior to the outsourcing of manufacturing.
Goods are produced in a shorter time and in greater quantities than before.
We have this romantic notion that North America and Europe produced great products before, an assumption which is simply not true - for example, cars, electronic products and household goods were previously not of the highest quality.
We have to face the truth that Chinese labour is far more productive and conscientious, and the quality control has improved immensely.
Without question, the Chinese work ethic is superior.
The West has had to import labour from developing countries, as our workforce - like our society - suffers from a sense of entitlement and a worship of white collar jobs above all.

We are eating products made with Apeel on them and chemicals from companies like Monsanto, we have plastic in almost everything. Some of us may die because of it. I guess some bad products some Americans have been dealing with for years has become normal, expected.

Bottom line is that teemu have an advantage as in they can pay someone less than $5 a day to work for some 12 hours a day. In the west someone on average will be payed anything between 80-150a day for warehouse and factory labour.

I've purchased from Temu and honestly I buy cheap unbreakable storage containers for the home that are not available in the US market. My thinking, even if its defective the price is cheap enough it's not much of a loss. Surprise surprise it was quite well made and practical and tough as nails, but mostly, impossible to find on Amazon or typical US outlets. Would I buy brand name pricier items on Temu? No. Temu has a niche that once used to be let's say the Dollar Store but 100x better options. The only alternative to me is Daiso because I can physically touch the objects or Muji and Costco for clothes. Amazon is only useful for their return policy but that's going down so I expect their sales to slowly plateau. I also don't like the idea Amazon could be selling stolen goods. With Temu, it's cheap non-brand items so not likely stolen. And if the anti-China campaign gets bigger, Amazon is just as guilty as Temu and I think Temu has a bigger future outside of the US in the global market. The real competition is probably AI assisted shoppers that can scour the internet and buy directly from the manufacturers or artisans that would be great.
