I'd love to get one of these 4 chamber bat houses, but I would want to mount it on a pole. Would I have to bury the pole into the ground or are there any poles with a flat base, that can sit flush on the surface of the ground?
You need to cement it ~2.5' into the ground, or eventually it will fall over. Out colleague Terry came up with a design that is bolted to a pallet that might not fall over if on flat ground, and would be movable. Find him in this group: facebook.com/groups/687900871881857
I think your underestimating the capacity of your 4 chamber house. I have a similar size one and have well over 300 free tails in it. I think it’s time to expand.
We measure capacity 2 bats per linear inch of roosting space so that bat houses can be compared. But yes, some species pack in tighter, and you'll want to add a second bat house on the backside of the one you have to reduce overcrowding which can lead to overheating...
Bats can change crevices at the top in all of our bat houses. They will use this to avoid predators such as a snake and pups in particular can be seen hanging out on tops of baffles. the 4 chamber in particular has an "attic ledge" allowing bats to roost against the roof. batmanagement.com/products/universal-four-chamber-premium-bat-house

UPDATE: ...at $160 a pop, they wonder why these 4 chamber bat houses are not flying off the shelves! Clue = OVERPRICED! :-)

Does this model have a birthing chamber or room at the top for bats to cross over to other roosting baffles?
