I transplanted two Bur Oaks that I grew in 18 cell Rootmaker trays into a 2 gallon Rootmaker pot and into a 2 gallon Rootbuilder II container. This a going to be a comparison to see which one produces a better plant. I also demonstrate how to assemble the Rootbuilder II container.

Never filmed an update on these but both trees are about six feet tall and almost identical, so end result is you could use either one and get the same result.

Can you do a video in which you talk about what root stock for what trees? I have been growing fruiting cherry trees from seed for years but that is very hit or miss as far as getting a good fruit. I am in Virginia so I can't do citrus (no greenhouse). I find this subject interesting as my greatgrandfather brought grafting to the US when he came from Italy. He grafted plum stock onto damsons (or vice versa - my family doesn't have much info on it) and worked with grape vines somehow (he brought grape vines from Italy) so I may have a gift for it hopefully!

I dont have any experience with grafting fruit trees, other than the citrus on the flying dragon stock. other than that just the Japanese maples and pecans

@@GrowNewPlants I feel like you've kind of left us hanging. Okay, so the freeze killed them. But several questions: Were they still in the pots when the freeze came? What could you have done to prevent that? When is the best time to move these small trees from pots to the ground for greatest success? If they'd been put in the ground in the fall and mulched heavily with oak leaves, would that have protected them from the freeze? I've followed your bur oak videos to the point that I now have 19 (out of 21 collected last fall) actively growing in the small Rootmaker starter trays, and am trying to decide where to go from here. I most likely will plant all of these on my place, so should I go ahead and move them to the ground now (it's June 16)? (The insects tend to eat the leaves in summer.) Or move them to larger pots and then transfer to ground in the fall? Or just leave them in the starter trays 'til fall? (Leaving them in pots over winter, here in northern OK, doesn't seem like a formula for success.) Great videos, and thank you! for that. But please close the loop for us.

This guy is incredibly inconsiderate and doesnt mind wasting peoples time. . . He says the oak seedlings died. . . . This video provides negative value. . . Guy is happy to waste the time of 7000 viewers and counting.
