The jakes kicked on right at the end of the video which is why the truck was missing. Someone dumped water down the turbo intake so I disconnected the air pipes to expel all the water.

Back in the late 80 when I was just a we lad , my gramps bought an old 1967 w924 short logger , it was on bowen island , v-8 Detroit,6-4 , he sent my dad to go and fetch it , long story short he called the rattle trap , was an awesome old truck to work with
Wow, I haven't heard that sweet sound in years. That is the pur of a real engine. Love to see her in the road some day.
Still sounds like a dream! What a beauty and the history behind it.
Good call on using the compression release &and some either to help get it started, versus just using the starter and just "grinding away until it started.that Cummins sounded good when it finally fired up.
thanks it sure does drive good too.
What a old peace of American iron. What a beautiful truck. She was barking. Good video. Thanks for showing
I had. W900 71 pretty much the same and thats a sound . enjoyed mine for 20 years still running and rolling
they are darn good trucks for sure
Don't you just love it when a plan comes together.cheers NZ
Oh man I do it was a brain teaser for sure.
Had to do some serious praying for wisdom on how to tackle all this.
Had a "67 W900 with a 335 Cummins, love the old iron, and the compression release !
They are great. I had a 1956 kw with 335, it was a darn good rig !
Nothing as sweet as the sound of a classic KW.
Street Smart - A classic Peterbilt or Freightliner would sound exactly the same with that engine, lol.
@@redbluesome2829 LOL, that's true.. but then , they still wouldn't be KW's
Its a Cummins Big-Cam III 350hp.
And its beautiful sound to hear it (y)
Not a big cam.id say small cam 350
Might only be a 335 aswell, but definitely a small cam
That is awesome. Nothing beats bringing an old rig back to life. Im hoping my 59 Diamond T will fire up when I get a free day. Its been sitting for 17 years.
Awesome man put up a video of that truck running
That is the plan. I was hoping to do it today. But we had some good flooding and mud slides. So mother nature screwed up my plan. Next time I have free day. I just did a walk around of it the other day. Its an ugly truck. But cool. I'll look forward to seeing more videos of you KW. She sure sounded pretty nice. These old trucks sure are addictive. I started with one and i'm up to 4 now haha.
th-cam.com/video/czn9qvAnk5M/w-d-xo.html
yeah im a KW lover, definately looking forward to vids of yer project.
Agreed. My first truck is a 1955 825KW, NH-262 with a 4x3 and torsion bar suspension. It's all original, including its paint job. A friend of mine is selling an old 71 KW that I use to drive for him. Its tempting to go snag it.
This is something that people do all the time. That is amazing that you got it to run.
thanks so much it was a challenge for sure.
sweeeeetttttt!!!!!! so freaking jealous I wish I was there to see her come back to life!!!!!
I love that feeling when they get going after sitting for so long.
That thing sounds like a beast!!!!!!!
it is a total beast and drive half decent too ! thanks for watching ~Daniel
Thank God for compression release.
I was thinking the same thing I wish they still had that..... Merry Christmas wherever you are.....😀
Run alongside pushing and bump start. Should be a nice truck after the restore.
Great job man, beautiful truck, a beer in your honor
thank you . and thanks for watching
Now that's some music at 4:45 when you throttle it up a little!
Thank you very much for making this! :)
That's COOL. Although I kinda wish it didn't run yet............Pretty cool to see an aftercooled small cam with all it's parts intact, even the compression release! Another few minutes of tinkering and it will be ready for a load of fatty firs.
Haha isn’t that the size of it too. This thing has had me stumped for weeks as to why it wouldn’t start and run, finally its alive.
Cummins 855? One of my favorite engines alongside the 2-stroke DD's!
Looks like a CAT 3406
@@craigheil7044 Anybody who knows Cat knows that is a Cummapart.
CAT!!!!
Oh my... Cummins KTA 19
It’s a Cummins 855 series.
Sucess... Sounds pretty good!
Your SO right, yeah the interstate wasn't finished back then it was all cement which would beat the hell out of you the construction zones were practically everywhere you had had to take a detour or running the East Coast you did but yeah it was it was a lot different back then it was fun to more fun than it would be now
wow thatd be nuts. I have alot of family near st louis and any time we'd go back and drive around, there were non stop construction zones on the big road like that and if I remember right cement highway back when too. cool stories James thanks for jumping on here.
You welcome enjoy talking to you
and the same here James !
Sounds like Cummins (743 or 855 big camshaft need to be prime before starting Running nice after all -they don't make engine's like that any more -today everybody facing plastic aluminium and ceramics -what a shame Thanks for shearing this video God bless You all
yea I definitely could have done that a little different haha. Thanks for watching , may God bless you as well Brother. is this ed jiskra ?
Sounds great but if it's been sitting that long u should change the filters and oil before running it again. Nice old truck
Nice Kenworth
So dang cool! Congrats!
Nice sound 👌
Gotta love the personality of these older trucks. Sounded like it was just saying "Nope nope NOOOOOOOOOOPEEEE n-not yet!" that second or third start attempt lol.
haha it was being difficult for a quick minute
Wow, all you needed as you call the fruits of your efforts was 2 New Battery's and 2-4 cans of Ether. That will always resurrect any old truck!!!
haha aint that the truth of it. Thanks for watching and commenting Joseph. Have a happy new year !
Great video. I like it. I'm wonder what makes that characteristic sound every engines produce when starting up.
I’d imagine it has to do with the compressor whack sound
Awesome video man i can appreciate how much you love your truck you've gained a new subscriber
sweet. thank you for being here. I certainly have a soft spot for the A model trucks
You're welcome man and no haha thank YOU for sharing your rig with us
some "Hot Start" always works
Gorgeous truck!
A Bealtiful song on the operating motor !!! Kenworth the best off trucks !!! Comentary : Saveiro Preto , Brazil South America !!!
Music. Great job brother
Thanks Scott !
i didn't know Quentin Tarantino was into trucks
Don't Jimmy me Jools
fucking classic
I thought he looked like actor Jason Clarke that played the T3000 in Terminator Genisys
He doesn’t sound like Quentin Tarantino what the hell are you OOOh I see what’s going on
LMFAO GOOD ONE JOE!!
Oh yea, that’s the sweet tune of a big cam, awesome truck man.
Edit: Needs that turbo manifold to be properly hooked up to make boost and run right tho, I mean, it’ll run alright at idle but not with any real fuel
I've not seen a compression release in years. Wow
Seriously? They're on most/many trucks. Jacobs is one company that makes them.
Is this a compression release for starting?
sure is
You look like the bad guy in the last Terminator movie. Awesome start vid!
Sound great Buddy! Good Job 👍
Esos motores Cummins son inmortales lo máximo mi conpita Puri good
Nice one brother!
Thanks buddy !
IM from Montgomery ALABAMA, drove long distance back then for about 8 years then started driving in the State of Alabama for the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board for about 27 years and retired, jjmjam
very cool, you spent a long time on the road. I've got friends living in Mobile, they run a steel mill.
Great Job
thank you
Coming right along....
Awesome K-Whopper!
GOD, I LOVE QUENTIN TARANTINO! Jackie Brown is one of the greatest movies of all time. Play some Dramatics in your videos!
I was asking my wife the other day about the quentin tarantino thing and she doesn't see the resemblance. But man if i really do look like him there should be a separate fan page for the look alike thing I've got going on : )
I was thinking the same!!
Nice W9A and it sounds sweet! Looks like someone stole one of your horns, maybe the same guy that poured water into your air cleaner.
thats it too I really like this truck.
Its alive!!!!!
..
New plugs and wires she'll be as good as new
haha yes indeed.
and a shmeezer valve
Diesel engines don't have spark plugs or plug wires.
@@level5565 yes they do and blinker fluid
Unless your referring to the glow plugs. That cant be heated up to help the motor start in cold conditions.
That was just condensation from the last 10 years of fluctuating temps. Nothing beats the big cams or N14's. Best motors ever put in trucks.
This is a small cam. They never had compression release in big cams. Looks like an NTC 350. I was quite surprised to see one of those. It's been
decades. That style of after cooler with the long cap screws was almost impossible to get apart to rebuild. Aluminum housing with steel bolts.
They went to a steel top section with short bolt when the first big cam 1 through 3 engines. Then that all changed again with the big cam 4.
That is an NTC 350. I know because my dad’s dump truck has one with a compression release.
That much starting fluid your going to blow the Ring's out of it
That moment when the jakes kick on at the end of the video.
hahaha
I did the same thing with mine when i first started it up. Was fiddling with switches. Started her up initially and she ran great, shut her down. Started again and ran her up and down a few times and flipped a switch without thinking about it, when i let off the accelerator i thought she was going to come apart. Might have almost messed myself.
yeah I was kinda freaking out a little. @@jeffersongaragecustoms6431
350 bicam motor muy noble...
ITS ALIVEEE!!!
Do like those older trucks!Who goes around putting water in engine intakes?
I have no clue what would make someone do this, to my knowledge no one would have a reason for it .
Perhaps it was rain
Sweet!!!
I had one been sitting for 15 years but engine Cummins 400 started easier and quickly with new 4 batteries
Good video, subscribed!
Me too, seen a few of these vids & they're pretty darn cool. Specially to someone stuck in the UK with tiny little 40ton GTW/40' trailer rigs lol
smallcam 350 engine there are still in Mexico
Nah. He looks like what you would get if Seth MacFarlane and Quentin
Tarantino had a baby, Not to be rude at all I love this guy and his channel!! Thanks for doing what you do, Nice to watch for motivation as my Dad and I lovingly restore our 73 W900a Anniversary that we have owned since new!
sweet i'll be looking for updates on the restoration.
I hope that you are able to have the truck for yourself.
my buddy has it only a few miles from me haha.
Thanks a lot !!!
..
Looks like a big cam
Verry goood estar truk
go with brake cleaner from cannt,is this engin starding
Cool.
Be patient with that truck just give it a little push
I would like to thank all my sponsors lol
lots off water coming out of the airduct from the turbo lol Lucky your engine didnt indigest that...
yeah you got that right !
At 3:40 you can see water pour out of the intake line where it’s removed from the manifold
haha yeah that was classic, the turbo was full of water and need an evacuation.
That water in the turbo and intake is extremely Scarry!!!! Your so lucky you didn't hydrolock it and break a piston!!! Not to mention was that water sitting in the turbo and rust the turbo up and lock it up!?!? There is so many bad things that the water could have done!!! You sure did get lucky for sure!!!
yeah i had some pre work before the video, barred the motor over with a crowfoot to make sure it turned over freely, and disconnected the crossover pipe so it wouldn't suck water into the motor, which ended up happening a little toward the end of the video. haha
It is a veautiful sound
Beautiful
Ya remembering the air starters..whoops. Wat that..lol
Air starter would be a life saver
you got that right buddy.
What engine model is that? Big cam
I know its a 350 not sure if its a big cam or not, the tag was removed as well.
So good and cassic
When I first started driving or 19 89 K100 Aleve for 10 days and it would run for 10 days I wouldn't dare shut it off until I got back
I hear you there. I drove on 12 hr shifts at night and the truck would drive 12 hr during the day for about 8-9 days it never got turned off either. Good story those would have been fun days backk then. Where are you from ? thanks for watching and commenting !
Let the truck rest in peace
Good job letting water get in the air intake cooler..🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
i know rookie maneuver !
couldnt ever figure out if it was vandals or someone left the air cleaner cover off. the water filled up the turbo and the crossover tube to the intake cooler. weird stuff man !
@Kraig Gustavsson
There is an intercooler it's that big thing on the side of the engine at the top drivers side
@bert Grau you’re definitely right. I have a shrimp boat with this engine, it’s a 350/400hp 855cid on a twin disc 6:1 only slinging a 48” 4 blade and will pull the hell outta nearly whatever I want. Love these Cummins. Mine is a big cam and the cam bearing were worn bad when I got the boat. Drag all day at 1500rpms with 8lb oil pressure 😳😳😳😳 yes 8lb!!!! Guy I worked for insisted so I did. Babied her for 5 years like that and after I finally talked him into a rebuild we definitely had something then.
Ahh it just needs a carb rebuild and some new sparkification plugs....
haha you got it Patrick. where ya from buddy ?
@@DanielBoonesloggingvideos Hahaha, Johnson City, TN. Hope you had a good thanksgiving, thanks for the video I reckon since i'm back I'll watch again, it's worth it.
@@PatrickBaptist cool. you are down there a ways. most of my family is from bloomington ill area. thanks for watching my vids man. we did have a good thanksgiving here, family drama usually gets wound up but oh well it happens haha. how about you was thanksgiving good for you did you grow up there in johnson city ?
Should have kept the decompression handle pulled out until it started
Pure iron, not soda can, like the today's
He is starting like some music.
Almost ether locked it.
i know it right on the verge.
Sounded like it was gonna quit at the end of the video. Did it?
it did die ,I freaked thinking the motor was going to throw a rod. It ended up just being the jake brakes were engaged.
Daniel Boone's Logging videos film some more is a cool truck
Haha I saw that oily emulsion/water spew out when you gave it some revs & then the idle went all lumpy and knocky, before having seen the reasons in the description & I thought "hope this guy didn't just curse his engine saying you could drive away tomorrow"! Glad it was something simple, it defies me why someone would put water in the intake like that though. How did you find out about it in the first place & do you think someone really deliberately did that to you or could it have been rainwater or similar got in someplace?
good question it could have been a leak in the filter housing I suppose. i found out while trying to start it the motor wouldn't run and I took the boot off the turbo and water poured out : / i took the crossover tube off and there was sign of water leaking into the intake there as well. hard to say what really happened but it won't sit that long without being run at this point : )
A spray of brake cleaner in the induction.
far out I've never heard of using brake cleaner.
Or you can use WD40 and a lot easier on the motor
That spray.. What it is??
haha its ether.
ether
