The virtue of keeping the concealment low is that Brisbane's (and radar Mino's) most match-winning ability is ambushing destroyers. If you get detected, pop radar and you've got a DD caught. That's a lot more effective at 9.1km than 11.5km. Radar mino still a superior ship to Brisbane just b/c of the DPM difference but they're both fun.
fun fact, the Edgar actually has worse ASW than the Mino because it has 3 charges per drop vs. the Mino's 4 (I think). Anyways, it's incredible to me that the super ship has worse ASW than BOTH its t10 counterparts.
I was so glad when this ship finally hit. I have sat on the 250k coal since the ship was in the event. I refused to spend on the event for what was going to be a free ship. The day it hit the armory, I got it.
The best thing about Light Cruisers is evident in your voice whilst playing. When you give broadside in a BB, yeah, it’s worrying but unless you get very unlucky, you know you should survive if you have at least half health. CL’s, no, every broadside, every overmatch possibility is a potential deletion. And adds to the joy of playing for me. Best ship line IMO.
I have had the Brisbane for the last six months, or whatever it's been, and I think it is a great tier 10 cruiser. I haven't played radar Mino much, but the few times I have I have had a much better time in the Brisbane. I personally also enjoy the commander from the event, but to each his own on that part.
I mean, maps with no island cover are going to screw over a Brisbane more than a smoke Mino, and a full conceal radar Mino has better concealment with a longer lasting radar so would fit into the DD hunter role better. It's also debatable that Bisbane's torps are better than Jinan's. Seeing as the only benefit Brisbane has with it's torps over Jinan is that they can hit DDs. Otherwise they travel slower, reload slower, and deal less damage, as well as get spotted a lot sooner. 1.3km detect as opposed to 0.8km on Jinan. You can react to Brisbane torps, you can't react to Jinan torps. Plus you know, Jinan can have 40 in the water at one time. I will grant, Brisbane is a fair mix between a radar Mino and a Jinan, but she doesn't really do ether of those jobs better than the original ship. Just as a alternate T10 should. What I'm saying isn't a slight against Brisbane she seems like a fun little mix of ships, just hard for me to agree she's better at ether Mino's or Jinan's roles.
Got it just recently. The fleet of "Australian" ships is growing...... very very slowly. Good fun ship, I still need to leanr how to play it effectively though.

I find that Brisbane is really easy to deal with in fast and agile DDs like Kleber. The shell velocity sucks so much that you can juke most of the shells and if they show a bit too much broadside you can get easy full pens and citadels with AP. Even in close quarters engagements I've won a couple of fights in a DD
Yeah, Kleber is a beast. But you don't want to get caught nose in. A brissy will make you pay, kite away, and odds will drastically improve. A good Brisbane player will just push a kleber out of the game they won't even bother trying to kill it, just flood their escape route with torps and light skirmish and retreat heal up and repeat.
I might be looking at this wrong, (you are clearly a way better player than I am!) but I feel like building Brisbane for gun damage might be sort of counterproductive - Guns are the one thing Minotaur is better at, hands down. So if you want a gun-focused Minotaur-like ship, why not just play Minotaur itself, and enjoy the (significantly!) better guns, on an otherwise nearly-identical package? On the other hand, Brisbane's torps are significantly better - it gets more of them, and they go 3.5k further. It really feels like one of the better torpedo boats at T10. While it's not quite as focused as Jinan, it has more team utility with the radar. (Also, being able to hit DDs with the torps is really nice - I get a surprising number of hits on DDs just by throwing speculative volleys into smoke clouds.) I know you like the gun boats, but if you haven't yet, definitely give a try to playing Brisbane as a torp boat. I think it works really well, and without a smoke generator, it's a good way to contribute damage and area denial without exposing your paper-thin citadel quite as much!
A lot of focus on the he, is the ap totally useless? Or just mino with less dpm? Been grinding towards mino, but the problem I’m finding with rn boats (albeit at lower tiers) is that everyone is angled and I don’t even scratch the paint. Don’t want to be a he spammer, but having the choice seems a nice trade? Alternatively, very tempted by a Napoli too.. recommendations?
Not sure if you are still going or not, but the Brit AP gets better around T7-8, and most of the reason people focus on Brisbane's HE is because her AP is just standard unlike the T7+ Brit CLs that get improved pen angles and short fuses. Brisbane basically gets Worcester AP, making it only really effective against other Cruisers at mid range. While her HE is effective at all ranges against all targets. Also as a personal recommendation, I'd say to go with ether Yoshino or Napoli. Yoshino if you want better guns and torps, Napoli if you want better armour and concealment. Both ships also offer play styles you can't just get from the tech tree.(at least until Wargaming gives the Japanese and Italians tech tree BCs, not saying they are any time soon, but they seem to be on a BC kick lately.)

Radar mino is a glass canon, super fun especially with a Dunkirk on it. Sadly the game is making it really hard to play with light cruisers RN. Range isnt great and you can get smacked by almost everything out there.
I think I'll just keep calling my Ragnar a Cruiser. (DD main BTW) Interesting ship though. Still shopping for another coal ship, pretty much have all the coal DDs that I want. Yea I know Ragnar is a steel ship, I love it though! Brisbane.... Maybe just maybe, not saying no! Thanks PQ!
brisbane is in fact, not banned in CBs she also has a copy and paste mino heal (mino heal doesn't actually queue that much, 50% for ship and citadel damage) it's honestly just that PQ took so much damage through a heal lol

Brings it up from 22mm pen to 28mm pen so you pass the 25 AND 27mm thresholds at the price of going from 9% fire to 4.5%. Honestly could be viable since unlike 127mm guns.

My man, Petro is the heavy cruiser of choice because she has amazing AP and good enough armour to hang with BBs, not because of her short duration radar. That radar is more for situational awareness than hunting DDs. Let's not also forget Petro has eaten multiple reload rate nerfs, an armour nerf, a concealment nerf, she was raised out of the water more. In the time all that was happening we were given Plymouth a smoke radar ship, Belfast 43 another smoke radar, was released and later buffed, Worcester got buffed(along with any T8+ CL with 15X guns that fire HE), Yueyang got so many buffs it's kind of unreal. So really the only ships that have been nerfed are Russian with Petro and Stalin eating fairly large nerfs. Nevsky has a fairly long duration 12km radar, at the cost of having one of the worst DPMs of any T10 ship having worse DPM than Yodo. To say she hasn't given up things to get that radar is just false. Nevsky is basically just the radar and nothing else.
I honestly do not see this being better than Minotaur to be honest. For one you lose that insane AP and DPM for a longer ranged radar with worse length. Why not just run Radar Mino instead? Just with CE your radar and concealment range nearly match making it so if you get spotted you can radar almost instantly and it lasts longer. Plus engaging targets at 12km is pretty difficult. Short radar means easier to hit targets and they stay lit for longer. In most cases AP on Mino can chunk so much health on all types of ships.
It's a minotaur with worse guns, but basically better everything else - more/better torps, better AA, better ASW, and the radar is easier to trap people with. (Your concealment gets down to like 9.8, so if something spots you, you can hit the radar, and now they've got to go 2k to get out of your range.) You can build it as a gunboat, but that doesn't feel like it's really playing to its strengths. Guns are the one thing it's WORSE at than Minotaur. On the other hand though, I think it's one of the better torpedo boats at T10, and that also gives you a way to contribute without exposing your paper-thin citadel to the enemy team. :D

With it also being shorter ranged at 10km you have a way better chance of hitting your shots more. That DPM nerf may not seem like a lot but it really is considering the AP performance of Mino. Though the torps on Brisbane are still really good but I like to be closer to targets so there's less time for them to move too much.

I got the Brisbane and captain from the event. After hearing her terrible voice for a few matches I removed her; really annoying. I did like the Brisbane though.

Most of the commander voice lines are fine, but the screech when you catch fire is so bad and reason enough to switch the voice.
Brisbane is not map dependent compared to radar mino since she is a very good torpedo boat, technically a better Jinan with utility to win game.

CL’s are good tier for learning, punish you hard for any mistakes. But allow you to really punish people for their mistakes as well.

Petro stealth radar is gone, I think the only Russian ships still with stealth radar are like T8.

I find the extra distance on the radar to be very useful, especially fighting a Mino.
