For context: You got it correct at 25:27. Ron has always felt inferior in all the roles he’s played in his life. He’s always associated attention to love in his mind. He’s the youngest of 6 sons who have all set phenomenal expectations for him. In the books, they make it a big point to emphasize that he will never be the first or most memorable in anything he does at school since his brothers did it before him. Throughout his life, he’s experienced his brothers amazing achievement (from being being extremely popular like Fred and George, to being captain of the quidditch team like Charlie, having the important school titles of “PREfect” (not perfect) and “head boy” like Percy and Bill [both important titles in certain schools in England (I guess, idk man people can correct me cause I’m not from England but speaking from book context, i.e. Hermione saying “Prefect, this is something mum and dad will actually understand”).
Having Harry as a best friend only aggravated Ron’s feelings of inferiority even more. Harry Potter the boy who faced Lord Voldemort three times and lived. Harry Potter, the only person to have lived after being hit by the killing curse Avada Kedabra (not abracadabra). Harry Potter the Triwizard Champion. He has felt over shadowed in everything he’s ever done. By the time the tournament rolls around, Ron has dealt with the downside of being Harry Potter’s best friend for 3 years. Has been cast aside as a side kick for all that time which added on to his fear of being the unimpressive youngest brother. That’s why he’s so horrible to Harry at the beginning of this film. In short, he’s super jealous of Harry during the entire first act. In the books, the progress is seen in a smoother transition but the movies just kind of throw bitchy Ron in there out of no where in a weird way. So yes, it seems random in the movie, but it’s well reasoned and fair in the overall arch of rons character progression in the books. It’s only after he sees what actually danger Harry faces and how easily a wizard at their skill range would get defeated that he puts aside his own insecurities and recognizes the reality of the situation. This leads to their reconciliation in the books. The movies don’t do a good job in representing the emotional journey of any of these plot lines

Don't count on Barty Crouch Jr. coming back. They didn't do it in the movie, but in the book, instead of sending him back to Azkaban, Ministry of Magic sucked out his soul via a Dementor's kiss.

  • @luzechavarria7463
    @luzechavarria7463 2 ปีที่แล้ว +75

30:25 No, that's what Harry thought, that if he didn't rescue all of them, they will die, when he gets out of the water he talks with Ron and Hermione and he realizes Dumbledore would never let them there to die, they would be completely fine, the song was just to put pressure on the champions making sure they hurry.
Also, I don't remember were I read it, but supposedly Victor Krum asked Hermione to go to the ball with him three times before, but she wouldn't accept because she was expecting Ron to ask her.
In the end of the book Fudge brings a Dementor to Howgarts and he gives Barty Crouch jr. the kiss and sucks hid soul out, he does not appear but he is mention a couple of times.

    • @Ayaforshort
      @Ayaforshort 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

Harry thinking that the hostages would die makes sense in the book because he overslept and almost missed the challenge. He hadn't figured it out, so Dobby gave him the gillyweed and told him that they took his Weezy. Harry was hopped up on adrenaline and once he got Dobby to explain that he meant Ron had been taken, Harry just put the rest together himself and jumped up to go save the day. Also the mer people weren't being helpful and 3 of the 4 hostages were people Harry cared about.
The Victor Krum, Hermione thing isn't canon. JK did an awful job setting up the romances in this series and she can't just return a more interesting subplot into existence.
If it wasn't in the 7 book and epilogue, it didn't happen.

The explanation for how Dumbledore knew to go save Harry from "Moody" is left out of the movie, but in the book Fudge suggested to Dumbledore that Harry go to the hospital wing, then "Moody" offered to take him. Dumbledore said "No, I would prefer Harry stay here." But Moody went to Harry and told him to come with him to the hospital wing, and that he needed to lie down. Dumbledore says that the real Alastor Moody would never have taken Harry out of Dumbledore's sight after what had just happened to him. As soon as he realized that both Harry and fake Moody were gone, he immediately knew that whoever the teacher was, he definitely wasn't the real Alastor Moody, who Dumbledore knew very well.

Hermione is actually 15 by the time the other schools arrive at Hogwarts since her birthday is in September. Krum is about 18.
The dragon didn't break loose in the book. That was just gratuitous action from the lousy director instead of putting in something actually important to the story from the book.

Some info on the Killing Curse's origins.
    From the Harry Potter Wiki.
Avada Kedavra is based on the Aramaic אַבַדָא כְּדַברָא, avada kedavra, meaning "let the thing be destroyed". J. K. Rowling confirmed this during an audience interview at the Edinburgh Book Festival on 15 April, 2004, where she had this to say about the spell's etymology: "Does anyone know where avada kedavra came from? It is an ancient spell in Aramaic, and it is the original of abracadabra, which means 'let the thing be destroyed'. Originally, it was used to cure illness and the 'thing' was the illness, but I decided to make it the 'thing' as in the person standing in front of me. I take a lot of liberties with things like that. I twist them round and make them mine."[44]
This phrase is also the origin of abracadabra, which, like Hocus Pocus, is used by magicians as a magic word when they perform tricks.[45]
"Kedavra" also sounds very similar to the English word cadaver, which means "corpse", and derives from the Latin cadere, "to fall".[46]

Ron's fit of jealousy is hard to understand but it's explained and done better in the books. They wanted to keep the conflict for the movie but didn't give it enough context. Basically, Ron is the youngest of 5 other brothers, he constantly feels overshadowed because his other brothers are all good at something and he doesn't have anything left to prove himself cuz his brothers have already done it. Then add being best friends with probably the most famous person in their world, always looked over for him. It gives him a sort of complex and it takes little while and a few arguments with friends for him to get a handle on it. It's immature, but they are all about freshman age so that's to be expected. Sorta like the whole school jumping on the hate Harry train.
Hagrid and the headmistress from the other school are both Half-Giant/Human (Full blood giants get to 20 feet if I remember from the books). Another thing they don't go over in the movie. Hagrid ends up upsetting her because she's ashamed of her Giant blood and they have an argue over it.
The actor who plays Voldemort is Ralph Fiennes and he's brilliant as him. Voldemort's appearance is due to reasons they explain in later books, they don't in the movies, but I'll wait till I know you've seen it to say anything. :)
They cut most info about the girl champion Fleur as well. She's actually not full human either. She's 1/4 Veela and those are basically sirens but on land. They can "charm" men into essentially whatever they want. It gives some more context as to why Ron screamed at her as Ginny put it. In the books she was trying to charm another student and Ron got in the way, causing him to make a fool of himself.
Also, for the underwater task, the people taken down to be rescued were never in any real danger. They were in an enchanted sleep and the merpeople are friends with Dumbledore. They are the ones who told the Dumbledore of the events underwater so they could actually judge the event.
The movies continue to get darker, you don't see the true effect of Voldemort returning to power until the next couple movies, though I see you've already posted Order reaction on Patreon so you probably have a better idea at this point.
Been enjoying your reactions man, fuck the haters.

My favorite thing from the books that was left out (and to be fair, for good reason) was that Rita Skeeter, the sketchy journalist, was an unregistered anamagis (please excuse my spelling).
So like how Sirius can switch to a dog, and petigrew to a rat, Rita would change into a beetle, and fly around and legit be a “fly on the wall”. In the books there were a ton of articles written about the “blossoming love” between Harry and Hermione, when in reality she was just worried and supporting her friend. But that also tied into why Ron was in his feelings this whole movie, aside from being The Boy Who Lived best friend and the youngest boy in the family feeling like he has something to prove.
Also, if I’m not mistaken, Hermione was the one to discover that she was an anamagis, and threatened to report her to the ministry if she didn’t stop writing hit pieces on Harry.
It’s just my favorite little detail in the book that makes for an interesting read, but in the movie it’s not necessary because we don’t see her again.

The movies don't explain anything, but Harry ALWAYS goes back to the dursleys we don't find out why until book 6.
Without spoiling anything here are some book to movie Fun Facts.
    1. the 4th book starts with Harry at the Dursleys. He gets a ✉ 🦉 from the Weasley's inviting him to go to the cup and spend the rest of the summer with them. And the pick up doesn't go smoothly. At all.
    2. Arthur Weasley got seats in the top box as a Thank U GIFT. They are in the top box _with_ the Malfoys and a bunch of other important wizards.
Also: The best seats _are_ ALLLL the way up! It's a sport played in the air! (that movie line makes no sense at all "if it rains..." and has alwaysconfused/irritated me) *In the book Malfoy has a way better burn, 'my God Arthur, what did you have to sell to get seats this good? Surely your house wouldn't have been worth this much!'*
    3. Ron's brothers Charlie, Percy, and Bill all came to the match too. Percy had a pretty large role in this book. Bill is a curse breaker for Gringots and is supposed to be really cool, long haired, pierced, leather wearing hottie, this was supposed to be our first meeting with him. Charlie is a dragon trainer or something and he actually first showed up in Philosopher's Stone to help with Norbert. You can imagine why he was in this one too.
    4. The Dursleys allow Harry to go to the World Cup, because Harry has told them that the escaped mass murderer (who was on the muggle news in book 3) is actually his God Father and would be very... upset... if Harry was unhappy or mistreated. (Harry obviously omits the _innocent_ part and leads with convicted murderer) Harry also has the picture of him at his parents wedding as the best man.
    5. Barty Crouch Jr. (Now I forgive the movie A LOT because he is played by David Tennant 🤩) but we aren't supposed to know what the young man in the dream looked like at the beginning of the story. BC Jr. was only 19 when he was outed as a death eater and cried like a baby, swearing he didn't do it. It's supposed to be a huge mystery, who puts the Dark Mark in the sky, why Mr Crouch hasn't been showing up to judge the tournament, his son is supposed to be dead.... the tongue thing..... that is a movie only creation. I still have no idea why they added the creepy snake licking.

They only send Charlie letters in the first books its his friends that pick up Norbert in the first book. So this book is the first time we see him.
I also love that when the champions families show up for the tournament Bill and Mrs. Weasly show up for Harry. Which is so sweet and should have been in this movie. Its also how Fleur frist sees Bill.

Cedrick was the huffelpuff seaker in the 3rd book when the dementors attack him and he fell off his broom (they never stated the seekers name in the movie). Even though he caught the snitch he immediately asked for a rematch because he thought it wasn’t fair. The teachers though denied that request. Off course this isn’t mentioned in the movie.

The other students at Hogwarts are upset with Harry because this is a chance for Hufflepuff house to stand out. And Harry, a Gryffindor, is trying to take that glory. And they're mine is per usual. Then obviously Draco and Slytherin have problems because that's what they do.
As many have pointed out, Ron feels overshadowed again. Being the youngest boy, his brothers have not only done everything before him but also better than him. And his best friends are the most famous wizard and the smartest students.

I was writing a long post about how much Ron's attitude makes the book (which is great, except for that) and the movie (which is the weakest, imo) being such a pain to revisit, for a good part of the story, but I accidentally closed my tab and lost all my progress =(
Sufice to say that there is a good reason (in the books) why Ron acts the way he does in this movie, even though I hate his behavior. Is like he forgot all that he and Harry been through in the last four years, all because of a childish jealousy.
Btw, of course there are other magic schools in the world of Harry Potter. There is one I, France, one in Bulgaria (perhaps), on in Japan, one in America and even one in Brazil (which I'm very proud to host). It's name is Castelobruxo, wich means Wizard Castle in English, and it is protected by the Caiporas, the woodland spirits that protects the forests and jungles of Brazil (it's our real life lore). They don't name it directly, but they mentioned that one of Ron's brothers wanted to study there in a exchange student program, but they couldn't afford it (what a shame though). It's suppose to be as old as Hogwarts, it appears to be inspired by native America pre columbian architecture (it looks like El Dorado to me), its locate in the Amazonian rainforest and it's curriculum touchs advanced topics in both herbology and magizoology. Neville would love to study in a place like that.

One of the little things that always irked me about the movie was the Weasleys not being in the ministers box with the Malfoys at the Cup. There was no real reason to change it, Arthur could have dropped a single line to the kids about how he scored such ace tickets and we could enjoy the Malfoys being upset about it. So many choices in this movie that make it my least favorite.

The cutes thing harry does... Is spit out his drink in front of a girl
Also one of the best reaction lines i have heard... "You asking harry to bath with you... Aren't you a little old for him"
Hwy everyone has a different taste... Some like Younger... Some like older
And the underwater part when harry gets gills... ... The extra flesh between your toes and fingers... Were actually kindof like that in prehistoric humans... Right after we came on land... It is used to move easier in water.. also when you have your hands underwater for a little while it begins to wrinkle... This is for better grip underwater
The reason why there is a new defense against the dark arts teacher is because Voldemort cursed it.. because they didn't take him as a teacher against the dark arts
Dumbledore knew that it wasn't the real alister moody... Because the real one wouldn't have taken someone out of his sight at such a moment

I think the last act of this movie everything in the maze to the ending is the best Harry Potter's gotten in film but all of the teen romance/drama, Harry and Ron fighting and everything about the ball, really lessens the movie overall to where it's only my third or fourth favorite. Prisoner of Azkaban's always going to be my favorite. Off the top of my head Order the Phoenix is next up because of what it says about teens realizing how corrupt governments and schools are and having to form their own army to fight against evil. It speaks to my soul on a deep level. Reminds me of South Park Bigger Longer and Uncut. What Would Brian Boitano Do.

Nevil Longbottom. is upset and bothered by his spell. is because when Madeya or the guy pertaining to be him used the 2nd unforgiveable curse. Nevil's parents suffered under that curse. And that's why he had such a bad reaction to witnessing Madeya performing it right in front of him, that's why he was so sad and depressed and the look on his face. and why Hermione shouted out stop it it's brothering him. Because his parents suffered a fate worse than death.
