Nearly 2 years later(This was written after Rise of Shadow's release, so I doubt anyone will ever see this), I have the fondest memories of this expansion. Ungoro is still my favorite expansion. I loved the theme, with the quests, the elementals, the crazy mechanics, and everything else. After some of the balance changes, Year of the mammoth itself is going to be hard to beat. I don't think year of the Raven was better, hopefully year of the dragon can be. So long Ungoro, you were fantastic. I hope Hearthstone will always be as fun as when we were journeying through your crater.
Robby Woolums The game hasn’t been going up even since Rise of Shadows which is sad I remember how much I loved quest mage in Un Goro even if it was fringe, Ashes of Outlands has not been great so far I really hope they can get it right in the next one.
I like how even when Trump is wrong, he hits the nail on the head with a couple of predictions. Living mana "Would be good in an aggressive token druid", Direhorn hatchling "Would be good with Curator and Primordial drake in taunt warrior". Even though he was wrong about those decks' particular viability, he was right about how one would build those decks.
Like his The Caverns Below review. He correctly lists almost the entire deck list, its strengths, its weaknesses and still gets the rating wrong. Pretty fascinating.
Is that really a prediction? Most of your examples I feel like the majority of people thought of since the synergy is obvious. Like, wow the big token producer card would be good in a token deck. The beast taunt would be cool in the taunt deck with the Curator. Wouldn't call these predictions, more obvious statements about the card that most people were aware of.
Jackal125468 that is something that a lot of people don't take into account with the amount of card generation in hearthstone "in your deck" and "playable" are not the same category.
@@jord19100 yep, the Deck gets slowed down by Not being able to Play giants+5 Mana reward and drawing the Giants, completing the Quest was never the Problem before the Nerf and it rarely is it now
A lot of people were right about Dr. Boom too. Frankly, I'm not sure how so many people were wrong. People were comparing it to a war golem for christ's sake.
Badalight They thought the Boombot Bombs would function like Mad Bomber's Bombs, i.e. they would hit any character and not just the opponent's characters, so they considered it trash. And really, if they functioned like the streamers had predicted them to, the card would have been trash, but because they didn't a bunch of streamers were hilariously wrong.
not completely wrong. He was fairly accurate concerning a lot of classes, Rogue is basically the only class where he was completely wrong, with Hunter and Warlock having a lot of wrongs in it (edit : and even with that if we exclude the core and cards revolving around it, Trump got some cards right like Razorpetal volley and Obsidian Shard), but Paladin, Mage etc actually were very accurate.
The Big Fish I actually have it as a 1 of from a midrange Hunter deck I like playing. But your right Hunter has so many damn good 3 drops. Tried fitting in vicious fledglings too but it's super tricky.
With regards to Trump's assessment of Caverns Below -- yes, technically "solitaire" is a different way to play Hearthstone. EDIT: Okay, that's a little glib, but I'm with Kibler on this, the card is conceptually cool, but as printed, the resultant deck has really limited interaction in gameplay. Hopefully, nerfing the quest condition to 5 plays with result in a more hybrid-y Quest Rogue deck.
Although I'd never run Cornered Sentry, it has saved me when I've discovered it via Stonehill on a couple occasions just because it synergizes with Brawl so well if you opponent has multiple minions that you really don't want winning the brawl.
Maybe you could consider rating cards on two scales instead of just one: Viability: The same rating that you're currently using, based on your meta and deck predictions. and Potential: An intrinsic rating of the power of the card, while also considering reasonable future synergies. This way you can give all the Priest cards a 1-star in Viability based on "ha ha Priest" but still give credit to cards like Radiant Elemental and the quest (good in Wild) for having Potential / being better than Binding Heal.
to be honest i play a discard nzoth control warlock and its actually my highest winrate deck. being about to summon dinomancer after dinomancer after dinomancer is insane when you can get it
I really wish Lakkari Sacrifice had worked. Discolock always seemed like such a fun archetype if it could work, and it seemed like if it would ever work, the quest would do the trick... and it didn't.... :'(
He was basically almost completely right about Cavens Below. He just couldn't see aggro being weak which is understandable. Can you imagine someone predicting aggro not being viable in a meta before an expansion comes out? Also, Caverns Below isn't really an overpowered quest. It's just sooooo unfun to play against. So ridiculous.
My only problem with the Nether Portal is the fact it costs 5 mana. Having to discard 6 cards is enough of a "cost" that having the portal cost 3 or 4 would make the deck at least somewhat playable.
id really appreciate it if every card would get 2 ratings. one just for the card itself, while imagining a world where a deck to support the card is available. A second rating for the actual viability of the card in the existing meta
I would have nerfed Caverns differently, by increasing crystal core's mana cost. It is not unprecedented as not all quest rewards are 5 mana. Making it +1 bounce really damages the deck unnecessarily, it is probably too slow to be competitive any more.
dinosize has seen play though. 8 mana 10/10 also potentially healing something that already traded with something. Turns into 10/10 face as well sometimes.
I remember thinking the hunter quest would be cancer as well and was afraid for the future of the game. One thing is for sure, we can all thank quest warrior for helping to stomp out aggro decks and indirectly slowing down the Meta, regardless of how viable it is now.
Not sure I like how he rates the cards in hindsight. I don't think the score should ever be based on 'how many different decks they're run in' but rather they should be rated by how powerful they are overall.
I'll be honest Trump, you're an incredibly clever person, but trying to foresee the future meta is...well, I don't think it's even possible. I think you're right that it's the best way to look at the new cards, but I think it's beyond what us humans are capable of understanding. Still though, love the videos. You're probably one of the bigger reasons people start playing Hearthstone :)
Props for making this video and even pointing out where your predictions are correct but the rationale isn't. For future expansions, I'm a proponent of giving each card two ratings: (1) on the frequency of play in the upcoming meta and (2) on overall power level. The second metric is an indicator of cards that might become relevant after future set releases. Also, I think it could help newer ccg players understand what we look for in a card.
Do you think if they printed a "hero power changing" card for warlock that allowed you to choose what cards you discard when you discard cards, or that actively allowed you to choose a card to discard. That sacrifice decks could be viable?
I crafted The Marsh Queen because of the original video. And while it was a fun deck to play and is actually my favorite hunter card, I was super disappointed by how bad it performed
Looking back at these is really interesting, Trump should do a Trump reviews trump reviews once the set has rotated out of standard to evaluate how the cards performed throughout their standard life
I find it odd he rated the warrior quest so low and the druid quest so high since the warrior quest gives infinite value and the druid quest seems like a worse version of jade druid. Primordial glyph one thing with far sight is unless you run only 3 mana and up cards you will end up with less value than you want sometimes. also the more flexible "bake" the better
I feel like I'm the only one enjoying Trumps way of rating way more than the usual of every other HS-Streamer. Its so much fun to try and predict a future meta, people are taking these videos way too serious.
Wow... Did Jens just animate the background when he was reviewing the hunter quest so that it keeps moving even when the video is paused?! This guy is living in 3017...
He's not given enough credit for his arguments. Only 'good' or 'bad' is what people remember from Trump's reviews on cards, but he was actually spot on in terms of arguments for most of these.
I played a Quest Shaman for a while and had some really good luck with it. It's not amazing and I've put it away for a while now, but I don't know anyone who has done well with Quest Hunter.
It's funny how Lost in the Jungle and Stegodon were rated 1 star here, but now (march 2018) they are in every dude paladin deck which is a Tier 1 deck.
A lot of this boils down to not releasing potential synergies with cards in the expansion. Noone thought quest rogue was any good because they figured the requirement took effort and too slow. Then we were given the varies firefly cards and it completely broke it. Even pirate warrior wasn't as cancerous as quest rogue.
Trump: A 10/10 body for 1 mana is very good, and since it cannot be targeted by spells, it gives the card a lot of value, it counters every deck, but since it's a Priest card, I'll give it a one star.

I think iam gonna start to record and rate new expacs aswell. Lets see how my thought process conpares to some of the top hs players. just for fun ofc.
I think nerfing warsong was right, because dealing 50+ damage in one turn shouldn't be possible. Post-nerf Patron Warrior was a ton of fun and I still hope it gets a place in the classic set one day.. but yeah. Being faster than quest rogue is pretty easy, unless they roll damn good, but the same thing goes for murloc pally as well.
cudos to you for being truthful about what cards are really being used and favored over others, takes balls to review ypurself before a sea of trolls, what a scholar!
Stevie Wonder could have seen that Lakkari Sacrifice was not worth it. If you fill your hand with junk as discard fodder, then discard can always remove an important card, leaving your hand clogged with junk. What discard synergy did this expansion add? Zavas, which is a legendary and you can only have one copy of, and Cruel Dinomancer, which you admitted was too slow. You thought Silverware Golems would help carry the deck? How did you think 3/2 imps would help you come back from said catastrophic failure?
