    Oleg is the man, I love his material! That’s what I just used on the Bowie I just finished and the one I’m working on. This build you’re doing should be pretty cool! 👍

    Just want to say thank you for being mindful of the volume difference between you talking and your tools. I for one, really appreciate you taking the time to adjust it in your editing.

    I love where you are headed with this project. When I made mine from a rasp I wanted to use it for bushcraft tasks, so I left the course side in tack so I could use it to quickly shred wood for fire making. It worked great, however, when I used it to skin a deer, it took FOREVER to clean the fat out of the course side of the rasp. I hope this helps someone when they are designing their next knife project.

      Thanks! I almost got a small wheel attachment as well and then I said "I wonder if this will work" and it did. Saved some money... for now atleast lol.

    The first knife I ever forged for the first time was a rasp knife. Tried to make a kukri out of an old rasp, but ended up making a kind of recurve machete with a drop point. To be perfectly honest, knife looks a hell of a lot better than mine did.😉

  • @lorneclose7312
    @lorneclose7312 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Love recurve every knife I make I say no recurve this time and I always seem to end up with a recurve

    you should do a hunter or camp knife out of that green one, and maybe a small scale scimitar with the blue one

    Just out of curiosity, is there a benefit to cutting out and grinding before annealing? Wouldn't the metal have been easier to shape if you'd have done that first? Thanks for all the vids, I've learned a lot!

    • @theriversexperience9383
      @theriversexperience9383  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I tend to cut them out so that they fit in the forge better and I don't have to move them around as much to get them to heat evenly.

    My girlfriend would do anything for me if I got her that purple handle material to go on to the next knife I make her and I would love to have that green for mine. Those are all absolutely gorgeous materials though.

    Looks good. I can agree with the Holes vs Fuller. However I think what type a knife your making could be a deciding factor or what to go with or of its just what you like to do. For a chopper I agree 100% on the fuller as there's gonna be alot of shock going through that knife. As opposed to something smaller and stabby. As for Holes.. just dedicate a Uni Bit / Step Bit for that process and deburring. Save the bits for the pins. Other than all that. I'm excited to see where that chopper goes!

    Let’s talk heat treat for rasps. I purchased a new Belotta (1095), for production. I have a gang of used ones which may be case hardened, so I guess they are good for practice or wall hangers ?? Any way to do more w unknown or case hardened rasps?

    I am just getting started in knife making, trying different things, can't wait to review all your videos on this. Wondering what grinder wheel you used to cut the profile of the knife from the rasp before annealing? You also used a Metabo grinder, so the question there is, does the size/power of the grinder make the most difference or is it the wheel?
    Great work and ignore any negative comments on here.I find your posts very welcoming and I sense you have taken some time think through the process and share from that perspective. Thanks!
