@@Ja14111948 Your taste of course and Mozart's are superb. But there is a story that Beethoven did not like the immorality or is it amorality of Cosi fan tutte and composed Fidelio as a challenge to Mozart's opera.
@@telephilia not to knock Puccini, as I haven’t created anything, but I actually prefer La Fanciulla and the operas in Il Trittico or La Rondine. The purgatory of Puccini melodies gets rather tedious. I mean maybe Traviata does too, but I feel like Verdi focuses more on the characters. That being said “The Humming Chorus” is one of the most beautiful compositions ever written. It’s strange, we usually hear about Beethoven as a bitter tragic figure, but his music has, deep down, a stubborn optimism about human redemption. It’s kinda like how everyone misreads Nietzsche. I always preferred Mozart’s German operas.
The question is, what you both do or don't know ... Tempo in music relative, depending on what the Andante sounds, the Adagio sounds. He started very fast, so he can't take out all of the tempo just because it would fit better for you.
Awsome / Bernard Haitink is a mastefull conductor of the wonderfel music and with the orchestra and chorus of the ROH at his disposal , and the magnificent soloists , we have sublime perfection : )

Beethovens Fidelio is the best opera ever written. Regrettable that it is so rarely performed. Even concertante.
Not rarely performed. Not as popular with the average opera goer as La Boheme or La Traviata but still part of the standard repertoire.
Mozart's operas are unbeaten, sorry.
