From my perspective, for Joe, the reason for choosing Ming, not Sol, not Wut, cuz he knows his debt is a trouble, and especially it’s a long-term issue, he will not make his close friends to get in his trouble also based on Joe’s personality. It seems like a harm to his close people. Joe is kind, nice so he cannot make it happen. But for Ming, their relationship is just a deal. A clear deal. cuz he knows Ming will bother him all the time even if he tries his best to keep away from him. Now that he cannot escape, why not make it as a meaningless deal with Ming. That‘s why he chooses Ming rather than his close friends. Joe is always clear actually
And still Joe still loves Ming and can’t escape this tox ic relationship

It became his obsession leading to infatuation while he was hiding in the closet from his family. He even went abroad to get rid of this infatuation, but then Tong and his sister became a thing that made him more broken obsessed, thinking of what he could never have.
