@@hakem705 only 5 days late. So I would personally say that in Tekken8. Feng is no longer Steves worst matchup. but in Tekken7 Feng was undoubtedly the worst Steve matchup. Feng is a nightmare match because of their conflicting character design. Steve is a character with : weak punishment. Weak tracking. and almost no kick or elbow moves. Very weak lows and weak mids. However Steve has excellent safe and powerful poking moves. so his jab. his df1. his 1,2,1,2 and his duck in pressure lets him continuously safely poke at his opponents to try and force them to overact so he can land a B1 counterhit launch. Now. Feng is a character who doesn't really have any glaring weaknesses as he can do it all. However some specific things that Feng has. Feng has a sabaki move. that will automatically parry an attack from Steve and knock him down for oki and do some damage. Feng also has a parry move "Shifting clouds" I believe it's called. where if Steve attacks with more than 2 moves he is automatically parried and launched. These two moves make it unsafe for Steve to attempt to poke Feng even when Steve has + frames. So Fengs can attack Steve with moves that are, lets say -5 and then immediately sabaki parry. and if Steve jab checked them to gain + frames himself he will get punished for it. Now this isnt a terrible issue for other characters who just have to remember to use a kick or an elbow. But remember Steve doesent really have these options. So you are forced to gamble on trying to tot ake your turn on your + frames. In addition. Feng is a very evasive character. and Steve has very weak mids and lows. So in order for Steve to try and catch Feng on his evasion. he has to either risk a -13 sonic fang. Which doesn't give much damage in the first place. or just hold back and try to block. But remember. For steves game plan, he needs to be consistently poking at the opponent to try and open them up. and his only good pokes are highs and high strings. and all of them are punches. In addition with his weak punishment, even if the Feng does mess up and get blocked. He wont take much damage from Steve. a perfect example is his shoulder. Fengs fast shoulder which is a mid and hits very hard and is a heat engager. is balanced by being launch punishable (-15 frames) Steve does not have a 15 frame launcher. His 15 frame punish does 44 damage I believe. Which is barely over half his average combo damage. In addition Fengs high crushing low CH launchers can be spammed on any Steve trying to use his high pokes (which are his only good neutral tools) and get massive damage on him. I could go on all day and make this a 30 page essay on why Feng is a horrendous matchup for Steve but I think you get the point. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TLDR: Fengs character design absolutely anihilates Steves character design as his strengths perfect target Steves weaknesses. and Steve has no way to retaliate short of getting hard reads on the opponent.
@@hakem705 No problem. and No. Steve in T8 is significantly worse than Steve in T7. In T7 Steve was undisputeably an S tier character. In 8 he's floating somewhere between A and B tier IMO. Because of Steves design. He's always had characters that countered him very hard purely due to their design. Asuka and Feng are prime examples. But in T8. They removed all of Steves neutral mid CH launchers. Meaning his mid game and his CH game is significantly weaker. In addition them weakening defensive gameplay by nerfing Backdash and KBD safety as well as buffing approach options and all the forced true 50/50's. Means that Steves defensive gameplay is way worse than 7. So his defense is way worse. Then if you look at his offence. They removed his duck in guard breaks. He has no unreactible powerfull lows. In fact no excellent lows at all. His tracking is very weak. he has no mid tracking moves and his heat is lackluster. So his offensive game is weaker and the punishment for guessing wrong against him is less meaning you can much more safely mash into his offence and hope for the best than in 7. The only thing that Steve is better at in 8 is Whiff punshment and evasion. with the LH stance and the 2, half launch from LH stance.
