Well Skye certainly delivers on the scenic front, anytime the rain clears and gives the sun a chance😁 A little trip like this one is great fun but also reminds me just how much of Skye I've still got to explore whilst the knees still hold up! And I haven't even started on the Outer Hebrides yet🙂 Cheers, Doug
Glad you enjoyed it - although it does remind me of just how much of Skye I have still to explore, not to mention the rest of the Hebrides. Cheers, Doug
Thank you for the great videos, love the An Aird, and "2 hours, 75 miles later" . . . That's Scotland, beautiful, but takes forever to get anywhere. Can take 10 hours to go 200miles.crazy! Tight lines. 👍
I always underestimate just how big Skye is 🙂 - and once you've parked your car you've still got plough across the bogs to reach your chosen mark 🤣🤣 Cheers, Doug
Another great video Doug. Pollack are great fun from the shore. I've started planning a few times to take the boat up to Skye but never got around to it. BTW, I've been waiting with bated breath for your "haddicks" session up north east that you hinted at elsewhere😉
Hi Charlie, It's certainly a bit of a haul to get there - even for me it's over 4 hours just to launch at Dornie, although that is the "sheltered" end of the island. As for the haddocks, I lost a bit of video but I should get something decent sorted out soon👍 Cheers, Doug
Looks like a lovely trip there, Doug. I am just back from two days on Skye and the shore fishing was a bit meh, but I had a fantastic day out in the kayak.
Hi David, glad you'd a good time - this time of year is great if it's not too windy. I wondered about the kayak myself, but decided to focus on the shore this time - and restrict myself to spinning gear as well. Cheers, Doug
If I'd caught it the next day it would have been on a plate - but I'd planned to go lightweight at Staffin and then have a "proper" camp down towards Sleat the next night. The cod got lucky and I screwed up 🤣🤣
That's good going👍 Some places on the west coast seem to hold them, but I've not seen one from the shore on Skye which is why I was surprised when it surfaced.
Rubha Hunish was on the hit list, but I've fished it before so I dropped it in favour of Staffin. As you can see, that was a great decision🤣🤣. That's the problem with Skye - it's a big island with too many choices👍 Cheers, Doug
Brilliant video as always mate not sure if I have asked before but have you fished the lay-by at the big Rock just before the Eilean Donan Castle on your way to sky I have stopped for a night there in the motorhome and had some cracking pollock on plastics anyway keep the videos coming great stuff
I've not fished there for a good few years now but I've bottom fished a couple of times without much success. Loch Duich has never been terribly kind to me from either boat or shore, apart from one boat session a little east of that rock which produced a load of congers to the mid-twenties only a few yards from the shoreline. That was twenty years ago though! Cheers, Doug
Just where we stayed - a little bay on Loch na Droma Buidhe (outer fringes of Sunart) and accessible only by sea, so I doubt a commercial site would last long!
Another great video Doug and some nice fish caught and good to see I’m not the only one whom calls themself profanity’s when I’ve forgotten a piece of kit 😂 my dad uses the words richard cranium instead of dh 😂😂
Well, a few more profanities were uttered at other points during this trip 😁😁 I tried to be clever and over-complicated things as a result, so it's my own fault. You might notice that I was using two rucksacks in the video - the plan was to use a lighter bag for fishing during the day and keep most of the camping gear in the bigger backpack for the evenings. Of course, all that happened was that everything just got muddled up and stuff got left behind more than once... Cheers, Doug
@@Corkwing-DougK 😂 no I never noticed the 2 rucksacks I watched it on my 60 inch television as well so maybe I should have noticed 😂 I did notice you not using swivel clips and tying lures on instead did you forget them aswell lol
I did actually have a few clips with me but I don't use them consistently - sometimes I find the larger lures don't clip on very easily, at least to the smaller clips I tend to use.
I don’t think I’ve ever been that first mark , was it just south of Rubha Hunnish ? I e fished that many times and Kilmaluig bay but I didn’t recognise that spot . Excellent video , was amazed to See the cod ! It’s always Pollock and Coalies up there !
I was pretty gobsmacked to see the cod too, as I certainly didn't expect to see any from there. Not that I'm complaining😁 The mark I fished was roughly a mile west of Rubha Hunish and I parked at Kilmaluig Bay then walked round to it. Cheers, Doug
@DavidTYork @Carrera-gp9od 🤣🤣 Honestly, I wasn't boozing last night, just tired! East would definitely be a much better choice👍 West might involve a bit of wild swimming - although there could be a few fish out there for all I know! Cheers, Doug
I've never fished Skye for flatties, although I do get a few when I fish up at Sandwood - just wee turbot and flounders. I probably need to base myself in Skye for a week or so and have a proper try for something other than pollack or spurdogs. Part of the trouble is that most of Skye just screams pollack so it's hard to tear yourself away from them! Cheers, Doug
I’ve caught a nice turbot in the sound of sleat but plan to make more effort next year along with my other favorite sea trout. I’ll keep you posted on any good marks.
I was out from Dunbar just once this year - th-cam.com/video/Qhg0eJaX8Yw/w-d-xo.html - and it was pretty slow going. These days I'm more often fishing out of St. Andrews on a mates' boat than launching out of Dunbar, but even St. Andrews has been slowish this year. You can certainly shore fish for cod from Dunbar over the winter, although I think you'll find more anglers around the Torness area (water inlet) or marks around North Berwick. Plenty flatties very close in on the beaches too. Cheers, Doug
@@Corkwing-DougK thanks for the detailed reply,, I usually fish around the Arbroath area in winter although I have been out for Dunbar in previous summers hitting in to some pretty big shoals of codlings,, so I always wondered about the shore fishing in the winter it's knowing the exact marks tho ,, cheers 👍🎣
I'm probably the worst person to ask since I don't do that much shore cod fishing these days - and would probably head for the grounds I know up Aberdeen way. Personally I'd work on the basis that Dunbar/North Berwick should fish OK after a northerly blow and Arbroath will do better after a SE wind. Assuming they're safe to fish, either harbour area should produce - it's more a confidence issue in trying a new(ish) venue!
Hi Phil - thanks! I've still got a video to finish off for Freezerburgh (lost some footage), but we'd loads of small haddock and whiting. And something a lot bigger too👍🙂 Cheers, Doug
Is that the big blubbery monster that was munching your haddocks🤣? I've managed to avoid being robbed for a couple of years now - which probably just means I'm not catching enough to interest them 😁😁
Hi Phil - I think I've now seen the vid you mean. Not just a blubbery monster, but a toothy one too👍👍 Trev actually hooked one a few weeks back although it eventually got off. He had to content himself with half a dozen big flat things instead. It's surprising what's out there... Cheers, Doug
Thanks for taking us along on your adventures Doug. Stunning scenery and lovely pollock with that bonus cod. Awesome video. Tight lines buddy

Superb video! Oh, how I love taking a few days myself on the West Coast for some fishing and camping in the car!!
Yup, I like this time of year on the west coast - decent fishing and it's not too cold or dark. And most of the midges have buggered off👍🙂
Superb Doug, excellent video, as ever.
Thanks! With luck I might manage a repeat session before long nights and storms force a retreat to the sea lochs once more!
Cheers, Doug
Excellent video very enjoyable 👍👍

@@Corkwing-DougK once took me 3 hours to walk half a mile on ghiga. Probably why all the locals have a dinghy. 😂
That looked great to me Doug, bags of effort over rough ground too, by the looks of it, . Very well done & thanks for posting.

@@Corkwing-DougK I saw the forecast of flat calm and got in the car for the nine hour drive. Fished Bracadale and it was mirror calm. Amazing!
Great vid, I would have wrapped that cod in tinfoil and cooked on the fire in preference to a ready meal or sandwich.
Had five myself in 🏴🏴 Highlands this week. Good eating 🎉🎉
