My sister lived in Manhattan until 2000, I went to see her around Christmas and the late 90s. I fell in love with Manhattan, it was so so beautiful and my favorite photo was of the Statue of Liberty with Twin Towers in the background. I will never go back there, nothing can replace those beautiful buildings and obviously I'm not even mentioning the many many many lives lost. Well they weren't lost they were murdered.

I not only think the current design respects and memorializes, the new one world trade center does blow the prior out of the water in every way possible physically and in terms of symbolic meaning.

Dj Phantom well I don’t really get what your asking, I suppose the original comment or meant the void in a sense of nothing like the twin towers will ever top them, I meant in a more physical sense as I previously mentioned, the void of where the towers once stood is not filled, technically as you said it is by the memorial but not really filling where the towers once stood.

Wise People seek Peace and not war. No one wins at war. Since 2001, I personally feel our country has been in a decline. Sometimes your enemies want you to stop focusing on yourself and your society as a whole and this in return drains the entire culture and it's Freedoms as a whole. Always choose Kindness over Cruelty and see everyone as your equal as a fellow Human Being. A country divided against it's or who leads with fear can not Stand strong.

It’s not just Americans who remember where they were . I will never forget it , it was very early morning in Australia , several hours ahead of America and my mum called me distressed and told me to turn on the tv . At that point only the first plane had hit . I watched in horror as the second plane hit the other tower . I saw them come down . Never will I forget that day .

RIP, here in Boston we have a memorial for the 303 of Massachusetts who died that day, I visit every 9/11 and pray for them, that day tested my faith like no other time, but God is my strength and we live on, the lost souls would've wanted that. 🙏🌎🇺🇸

Unless you are a native New Yorker, and were actually in NYC (or in Washington D.C.) on 9/11, it's REALLY HARD to FULLY comprehend the full scope of the trauma and the resulting effects 9/11 has REALLY, TRULY had.
I tried to explain this recently to someone from somewhere else in the world who experienced 9/11 via the news media as a small child, and they were lamenting the effect 9/11 had on air travel being shut down for a few days and that 9/11 was a "global" event.
While that's true, let's be real: the impact on the rest of the world was economic. The true human toll and traumatic aftermath and the disproportionate impact of 9/11 was concentrated in NYC & Washington DC.
People that weren't there and experienced 9/11 through the news media experienced it second-hand vicariously, they weren't exposed to the first-hand trauma.
I couldn't even bring myself to go near Ground Zero for a LONG, LONG, LONG time. And the SMELL that permeated lower Manhattan for weeks and weeks and months afterwards was literally, INDESCRIBABLE. And the hole in the skyline was 💔, UTTERLY devastating to see every day when I'd cross the Manhattan Bridge while commuting.
I moved out to the San Francisco Bay Area in Northern California from NYC in the late summer/early fall of 2004, and before I left I visited Ground Zero for the first time since the attacks. It took me nearly three years to get there because I just couldn't deal with the enormity of the tragedy.
I'd gone back to work in Manhattan on Monday, September 17th, just six days after the attacks, but I ACTIVELY avoided ALL of lower Manhattan below Canal St. (I worked in the Hudson Square area on Greenwich St. @ Canal so it wasn't easy because I worked only about 13 blocks north of where the WTC had been) for YEARS. I COULD NOT go below Canal St., because it was just TOO CLOSE.
I'd have panic and anxiety attacks if I was on the subway and we were stopped in a tunnel in lower Manhattan, or if I had to transfer trains in lower Manhattan; I just couldn't do it, I'd have to go further uptown to do so. I freaked out once on the PATH train going to visit my best friend from college in New Jersey because someone had accidentally left a package on the train seat and I thought it was a bomb. It actually turned out to be a holiday cheesecake. It's funny in retrospect, but it's not funny at the same time.
I freaked out having to drive on the bridges or through the tunnels -- I thought they'd strike again at ANY moment. ANY loud noise made me jump in my skin. It was COMPLETELY HORRIBLE. That's what 9/11 did to THOUSANDS & THOUSANDS of New Yorkers, myself included.
That's the kind of traumatic response you have to experiencing first-hand trauma, SO, I knew what I was experiencing, but that didn't make it any easier.
Like she said: "I have good days and bad days. When it gets really bad, I go see my son."
    I can DEFINITELY relate.

Not just every American remembers exactly where they were and what they were doing. every person on the planet who is English speaking remembers. I was a 5 year old girl in Australia, and even i remember exactly where i was and how i learned of this (my friends are the same). I imagine the worst reminders would come months after. All those missed appointments. Nobody to pick up dry cleaning or monthly prescriptions. People not showing up for work the week of. Cars left in the same spot for weeks, and you just knew... i cant imagine.

I agree. I was born in 1994, I was 7 when this happened. I'll never forget happily enjoying TV before my family came screamin into the loungeroom and booted me out of the way and spent the following day watching the news. I remember there was not a single channel that wasn't featuring this story. The amount of unease in society for a year later was remarkable. I can still feel it.

A good view into the lives of those having to cope with such trauma and the fall out. Mindfulness and wellbeing is a requirement of survival in our world, alongside the support of those around us.

Even individual people are effected in different ways, the first responders suffer with things such as anxiety, depression and PTSD, even things such as cancer and other illnesses. Its horrible to see.

I was taken to the school library and, my academic assistant who was also a student in ISS was waiting in the hallway and we went to the school library and I saw what happened. At first, I thought it was an accident. I actually said, "Like wow! That's the craziest accident I have ever seen in my whole life!" The way everyone came together in a time of crisis showed that it didn't matter about anything people superficially place value in such as ethnicity or socioeconomic status, everyone was there helping each other no matter what.

I don't condone hating all Muslims, absolutely not. I have had positive and negative experiences with that group, as I have with all people. One great memory that stands out was when I was at work. I was sad because my grandmother was dying of cancer and it showed in my demeanor and expression. A regular customer who was Islamic came in with his grandson, like he did everyday. He always bought candy for this little boy. He was always gentle to me. He saw I was upset and asked me what was wrong. I told him and he gave me his Tasbih, a prayer bead like the Catholic Rosary beads. They were dark red and beautiful. He said to pray with these and they might help me find peace. I'm not religious in any faith, though my family is Catholic. However, that meant so much to me. He said, "Don't be sad. You are my sister and God has a place for all of us when we die." I want to cry remembering that. I know why people here are distrustful and angry but I also know the good and that man exemplifies that. Please remember that the Islamic people suffered when extremists ruined what their religion and culture stand for.

My country has gone through war 30 years ago ... people were having coffee as neighbours one day, the second day they were blind of hate due to political agenda and gone to the war against each other...
The same thing is happening today with the pandemic... keeping people apart and dividing them "for their health" is not something we, as humans, should agree to...

When the narrator said they would look at how 9/11 affected New Yorkers, this isn’t what I was picturing.
The Muslim girl who was complaining that her father was deported and they have to live apart “because of September 11th”, doesn’t realize that so do all the ppl who lost loved ones that day. The only difference is she can see her father and talk to him anytime she wants, they can not.
She was basically saying “well I was in the 4th grade when it happened, and I’m over it now, so why aren’t you yet?”. I don’t believe in prejudices and targeting a certain group of ppl, but I have ZERO empathy for her or her family.
Stop being so entitled and think of other ppl outside your own group!!! Jesus Christ!

We keep spitting on the grave of every single innocent victim of that day as well as setting their family members to shame by our incredible ignorance. shame on us, the majority.

This is why religion as a whole needs to be left in the past, where it belongs.

If it wasn't for Christianity, there would not be a United States of America. Gee! Do your homework before you post. Learn the history of the U.S., not the post-modernism crap being peddled. Actually read original documents and autobiographies of our Forefathers and mothers. It's all available at your fingertips. Only a desire for knowledge is needed. Semper Fi

As a volunteer 1st responder, I will always think of my fellow firery's who didn't make it on that dreadful day. I feel for the people in New York of all races still suffering. American Muslims hate the 9/11 terrorists they don't need further suffering....look at the WW2 Holocaust Jewish people and they have suffered....don't repeat the hatred re Muslims who are American too.

Any religion and/or culture that supports Shari'a law or any kind of violence, like Islam, is simply a terrible religion/culture and should always be renounced. Look at Saudi Arabian women from the '70s and you'll notice how starkly different they dressed and lived compared to today's Saudi Women. They lost there freedom long ago, and so it seems that for the ones who ignorantly practice it today wouldn't know how backwards their religion/culture truly is. I'm not hating on the people, they don't know. What they should realize is that some cultures (and some religions) are better than others.
