Just finished watching. If you're concerned about whether or not it's worth it, remember that it runs off of a PCIE 2.0 x 8 interface. You'll get a max of just under 4 GB/s I believe, so in theory, it should be fast enough to stripe 8 SATA SSD's. I'd be curious to see the numbers there. Otherwise, this thing should easily handle any other storage configuration you have in unRaid as long as you flash it to IT mode first. I have experience with the LSI SAS 9211-4i (the 4 port version), and it's fast enough to saturate a gigabit network connection with 3 WD Reds, which is all you really need if the main purpose is storage, and you aren't doing a 10Gb network. I have tested this on Freenas (BSD) and with ZFS for Linux (Fedora 29). The card was natively recognized and worked great in both instances. Again, be sure to flash it to IT mode and I think you'll be happy with this purchase. In fact, I just bought the 8 port version that you're showing in this video. Can't go wrong when it's only $55. ;)
you bought that in new condition? You know the youtube channel theartofserver? Because looking at your card with their information, your card seems like not a real LSI.
Yes. The backplane of a R720XD has a built in SAS expander. You will need two SFF-8087 right hand to SFF-8087 straight cables. Hook SAS A and SAS B to your HBA. SAS A1 is for the Flex Bay option so if you don't have flex bay, leave it empty.
I bought that exact card a day ago or so. I have to say at first I was relieved to come across your site. However, I REALLY wish you would have went over the process of getting FreeDOS disk created. I do realize you can do it using Rufus. However, I get an error stating can't initialize PAM. I have done about everything - and now I have managed to boot into EFI Shell and copied all the files - and still can't get the @#$@# sas2flsh.exe to run and work as it shows in your video. Honestly - haven't found one single useful video to go over this. Getting the dang bootable to work is much more of the battle than anything else.
Try to install the card in a different computer and do the same procedure. That error happens on some Intel boards... read the answers in the first link serverfault.com/questions/679175/failed-to-initialize-pal-while-upgrading-an-lsi-9211-8i-to-it nguvu.org/freenas/Convert-LSI-HBA-card-to-IT-mode/
Jason Mills I will update my website with the details on this product and cables and where to buy it from so please check jacksgear.co.uk will have it upload over the weekend

If it's not difficult for you to give a link where you bought cables for the raid controller
mini sas 36p, they are also called sff8086
you bought that in new condition? You know the youtube channel theartofserver? Because looking at your card with their information, your card seems like not a real LSI.

What is the link to the cables
I have incorporated 8 HDD of 10 Tb and I take them as if they were 2 TB, you know why?
Look at this : th-cam.com/video/u55vIGMzzKw/w-d-xo.html
Short answer : 32 bits cards, you must got a SAS-2 card at least
You never had 10 Tb drives.
Learn english and reply.
how much power does this card consumes? and does it get hot?
Less then 75 watts, thats what the pci-e can provide.
Everything that use electricity gets hot, but it should be fine with normal airflow.
Can I use this setup to connect 8 HDDs?
Yupp, for Chia right? Hahaha
My Dell R720 is a 12-bay server. Can I connect the backplane to this HBA and use all 12 drives?

The PC that you use to flash the HBA needs to run in legacy mode.
Your flash may say "completed" but it wont work unless your in legacy.
Hi, what are the cables called? 4x sata on one end but what is the connector called on the other? or do you have a link to the cables? thanks...
Jason Mills I will update my website with the details on this product and cables and where to buy it from so please check jacksgear.co.uk will have it upload over the weekend
They are SAS to Sata breakout cables.
The cable is sff-8087 to SATA. Watch out for those called “reverse” - they are for data in the opposite direction.
Actually supports 8 hard drives not 4.
i wanted to see installation and setup, not an unboxing video
exactly, disappointed, wasted video!
