  • Discover the story of the Littlehampton letter scandal - brought to life in the scandalously sweary Wicked Little Letters.
A 1920s English seaside town bears witness to a dark and absurd scandal in this riotous mystery comedy. Based on a stranger than fiction true story, WICKED LITTLE LETTERS follows two neighbours: deeply conservative local Edith Swan (Olivia Colman) and rowdy Irish migrant Rose Gooding (Jessie Buckley). When Edith and fellow residents begin to receive wicked letters full of unintentionally hilarious profanities, foul-mouthed Rose is charged with the crime. The anonymous letters prompt a national uproar, and a trial ensues. However, as the town’s women - led by Police Officer Gladys Moss (Anjana Vasan) - begin to investigate the crime themselves, they suspect that something is amiss, and Rose may not be the culprit after all.

Loved it. Not just funny but an accurate glimpse of society back then. Bet I’m not alone in wishing there could be a tv series around the three sleuths 😄

I enjoyed the movie, but in the end just felt very sad. Edith lived a very sad existence and the women of the day were treated so poorly.

It was equal parts sad & funny. Great acting. I read that the real Rose Gooding was English, not Irish & had five children, all from different fathers. At the time she was married to the father of her youngest

Don't miss it if it makes its way to your local art-movie-house. I picked out about 85% percent of the "dialect." But, it is no matter, you will still get it all. And, I don't want to be cussed out with words I do not understand, ever. You will see this at the end, so I will not spoil it for you. Anyway, I hope they make a streaming series using this fine cast of detectives.

“Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right.”

I saw this film today and it is a good film it's enjoyable but it's just such a shame that we live in such a woke left-wing Society that they feel they have to rewrite history @! Why have an Indian actress play the white police woman? Why have the accused portrayed as an Irish woman when she was English? The most Ludacris part is at the end during the trial when we have a black judge!! In the late 1920s!!

that was my opinion from the trailer. An indian women in the police of little England village in 1923? Should Olivia Colman play Gandhi in an remake? I understand people of different culture in England would be fed up to play servant, pimp or slave...taotally understantable...but when its a real story, we really need to play along that ideology?

In the 1920s the UK population was 99% Native British (white). Yet this film presents black and asian people as everywhere, which is factually false.

My god loosing your nut over the casting, it’s a comedy based on a real event, who cares about the casting.

Race isn't relevant to the story. Also there were not that many compared to the central cast and dozens of extras.

In the end times there will be a great falling away from the truth, lawlessness will abound. If you confess Jesus is Lord, believe in your heart God raised Him from the dead you will be saved (fromhell) Romans 10:9 Jesus died for you believe & repent.
