  • Visiting Norway to fish halibut, showing my gear and lures as a tip for you. You also get to see traditional halibut fishing method. We are still in North of Troms County in Norway, close to Tromsø.
    Special thanks to A.I.I for taking us out with his amazing boat.
    Thanks to Kalaxi Fishing for the good and working gear.

      Hi and thanks! I think its one of my favorite game-fishes, Queen of the seas if the salmon is king. There is so many ways to fish for them i mean different baits and all, and you really should try, just remember to use heavy enough rods and lines they are pulling quite a lot sometimes =D

    Wspaniale, że Twoje filmy opatrzone są napisami. Mam komentarz w moim ojczystym języku, czyli polskim. Poza tym film pierwsza klasa. Pozdrawiam serdecznie.

    Per fishing law in Norway, you should release halibut smaller than 80 cm!

    • @FishingwithJaska
      @FishingwithJaska  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct, Thats why smaler than that have been released.

    I've never tried trolling for halibut I've caught all my halibut on lures usually big savage gear sandeels or cutbait herrings, I will give it a go in Lofoten next July! By the way I was eating halibut green thai curry while I was watching your video which I caught in Lofoten a couple of weeks ago, delicious 🍽👌🎣🇧🇻🇧🇻👍

    • @FishingwithJaska
      @FishingwithJaska  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can give a shot to troll easily even those cutbait herrings, much more effective to move around with a boat if halibut is not moving, and Kveite curry i havent tried ever =D can be really good tho, i usually fry it a bit and stick it to the oven with vegetables. And thanks for comment!

    The first fish are to small and must be released. Hop fully it survives the bad handling after the gaff. And as a non resident in Norway its illegal using long line with a lot of hooks like they do. No good representation for the serious sport fishers. Yes I catch and freese but I follow the rules.

    • @FishingwithJaska
      @FishingwithJaska  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Smallest size is 80 cm for halibut. all year around. and my fishes have been over this size. I also follow the rules. All fish smaller than this was released. The longline was not mine it belongs to boat owner, boat owner is Norwegian and living in Norway. Thanks for watching out for fishes.

    Ok videos little long but it would be nice if you inform a little bit more about speed and how deep it is were you fish

    • @FishingwithJaska
      @FishingwithJaska  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks a lot for awesome feedback! i need to remember that for upcoming videos, the are where i was trolling was 10 - 35 meters deep, the speed what i used was 2 - 3 knot speed, it really depends faster you go, more the lures will go towards the bottom. it depends heavily what wobbler brand in use.

    Nice video. Here in Southern California we catch much smaller pacific halibut. Legal size is 22 inches, but still very good eating. Market price is approximately
    $20.00 per pound , so worth the effort to put one on the table .

      @FishingwithJaska  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nice you liked! I have seen one of those before " pacific halibut " i mean, And i love halibut too, its so good when you make it in oven or steak. im not sure how much 80 cm is in inch, more than 30 inch what the legal limit is here. Is it a lot of halibut there ? And Skol to you too!

      There can be , when the time is right , this year not so much. As you go further north up the pacific coast the become larger , Alaska getting very big halibut. But North Pacific they have very strict fishing regulations. A very short halibut fishing season, to keep stocks plentiful,

    • @FishingwithJaska
      @FishingwithJaska  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds good! Taking good care of fish stock is important. And yea more you go north.. bigger the fish =D usually =D in Norway the halibut is coming to shallow waters on summer time and then going back to deep later, so i think season is quite long.

      yea you can and its really fun =D tho you need to use extra heavy lures or wobblers, to make em go deep enough and stay there =D and will do! thanks for comment!
