he has made me love sociology. You bad teachers and some good teachers but you only one great teacher this is Mr Mohapatra. Please put more and more lectures from him and give him more time. people all over the world have been listening to him. My US friend told me that he is not Indian but global citizen. Remember your channel is mainly recognized due to him. others are there too but on the periphery at best.

Summa cum laude. Excellent linking, evolving of theories, macro and mic ro. Dr. Mahapatra displays a scientific, neutral, analytic, synthetic, critical mind. The central theme is change, disequilibrium, equilibrium, continuity along a continuum, towards the close of the lecture, the professor has avoided mentioning 'conflict' and neutrally substituted 'controversy'. Ultimately, there is unequal distribution of power, the powerless at the mercy of the coterie of the powerful. Rulers, regimes, governments may change, but sharing of power is unequal, therefore we have to return to grassroots level micro systems instead of seemingly comprehensive grand theories. This lecture is very engaging for those who are already initiated, some biographical details of Auguste Comte, Herbert Spenser, Emile Durkheim, Talcott Parsons, Robert Merton, et al would have been helpful. Loved listening to you. There are very few in the academic milieu that can hold forth on philosophical/sociological theories so penetratingly like Dr. Mahapatra.

Thank you so much Professor Maxwell, for your kind words. Its true that functionalism opens up the debate whether social equilibrium is natural or its a coercive phenomena. No wonder, people are socialized, schooled, trained to read news paper so that they appreciate and contribute to the cause of harmony . Its true that Merton or neo functionalism don't see equilibrium as an universal and voluntaristic phenomena. They argue in favor of empirical validation of functionality of institutions . Limits to functionalism is discussed at length by a galaxy of scholars who reflect on state hegemony. I have discussed their views in another lecture in this series (conflict/critical theory). Your comments are constructive and analytical. i deeply appreciate and endorse them.
