Sorry you had to do that. Thats basic dude duties. But your partner couldn't handle basic dude duties. Dont forget to pull the snake out and rinse it off outside once your done using it. You can probably oil the snake too to keep it from rusting after its air dry. Dont want a stinky tool. There's alot of ways to go about this. Yearly maintenance and have a good knowledge of how your pipes looks like on the inside. Of course with this you will have to have a services provider come camera snake the pipes $$. Some pipes are scaly and over time things cling onto and creates a clog. Try to stay clear of some chemicals that are pipe eaters. You can try thrift drain cleaner with hot or boiling water. Its pricey though $30-50 amazon. Well best of luck.
